I eat a cup of cheerios almost every morning, and then instead of milk, I go with strawberry yogurt. It's very filling and the yogurt isn't that much more calorie-dense than milk (if you go with low-fat of course!). It's very tasty and I'd highly suggest it to anyone!

I had no problem with the link. :-/

But I had a problem with the fact that the reported didn't mention how long it had taken her to lose the weight, or why this story is being written about this particular women. I'm in journalism and I hate when things lack relevance. It's a perfect story for this site, mind you. I just don't know why CNN wrote abuot this particular lady. :-/

Weight Loss Scared to go to the gym Feb 19 2008

I know what you mean, I started working out and gained an extra couple of pounds, but when I took my measurements, I was smaller. What gives?! I had lost fat, but gained muscle (which weighs more). So even though you may end up gaining a bit, know that (first it'll probably be water, but then...) it's muscle!

All the luck to you in the Gym Adventures! Have you looked at any in your area? I know at mine on campus there's a weight room (where all the beey guys go), and then there's a smaller room with weight machines and cardio machines (most ladies go there! hahaha!). Try to find an unintimidating environment to workout in! :)

A buddy recently added some songs on my MP3 player and he included a couple of Metallica songs, St. Anger and Four Horsemen and I was surprised how much these two songs get me revved up. I think I will ask for more next time!

Sandman ALWAYS gets me going! You should check that one out too!

Any funky dance music is good. Pick something with a strong beat that can suck you into it! I really like the A*Teens (hahaha!), an ABBA cover band! I also like hiphop (Black Eyed Peas, Ludacris, and any Southern Crunk Music is AWESOME!), and 80's pop music. Anything from Cyndi Lauper to Madonna to Salt 'n' Peppa! :)

Try to mix it up, too. Don't listen to hiphop straight on for the entire workout or you can get sick of it really quick. I have an iPod shuffle, so I throw all my fun work-out songs on there and I'm good to go!

Hope that helped a bit! Keep on groovin!

ducklingerthank, you can go ahead with the old challenge and sit the new one out, or join up with us on this one today. Whatever you want!

The new challenge is to add up all your hours/minutes of cardio activity a week. You can add up everything you do at the gym (bike- 86 min, elliptical, 138 min, etc, etc, etc) AND you can add up anything extra you do. Anything from going out to the club (as long as your dancing, not just trolling! ;] ), swimming, bike-riding, roller blading, anything. Just try to keep it honest with the fact that it's cardio. If you walk to work every day (like me!), I don't think you can count those 15-20 minutes as cardio since they're not getting your heart rate up that high. If you're doing something where you can still keep a conversation going, but you have to breathe a lot heavier, you're in the activity range we're talking!

Sound  good to everyone? :)

Motivation MOLLY'S DIET RANTS! (ranting, raving, motivating & more) Feb 17 2008

Thank you for going to Sonic, Molly! I feel SO MUCH better about doing it myself. I usually get a cheeseburger kid's meal (no ketchup or mayo), and give the soda to my boyfriend.

I've been doing so well with my soda drinking. I used to drink it non-stop (coming from a family that never got it... I kind of went on a soda-bender when I moved out!). But now I'm doing much better, drinking less than one a day, only on special occasions (going to the movies, out to eat, etc.). But sometimes on those occasions, I try to get lemonade instead. I know, I know. My teeth are sensitive enough and I really *shouldn't* drink anything that acidic... but come on. At least it's not *quite* as bad as soda... right? And I usually ask for extra lemon, which helps fill up the cup, so I get less sugar-water.

Okay, so I'm probably the dweebiest of all of you,

I LOVE listening to the A*Teens... you know, that teeny-bopper ABBA cover band! LOL!  Makes me feel like dancing every time!

Also, I definitely love the song If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out by Cat Stevens. That song makes me so happy... and just for future reference, I definitely want that played at my funeral.

I also am obsessed with Lilly Allen's album right now. Just about every song on it is SO good and gets me pumped and feeling good to be alive.

And though they usually deal with melancholy matter, the Hush Sound (AWESOME piano rock band!) has a few songs like Lion's Roar, Like Vines We Intertwine, Wine Red, and City Traffic Puzzle that are really upbeat and make me feel like dancing around. :)

We had Sonic Burgers... with a friend tagging along.

Last night though, we celebrated by going to an Italian/Japanese restaurant and splitting dishes (I got Chicken marsala with spinach fettucini! yum yum yum!!!). Then we had some fruit/chocolate fondue while watching a movie.

Tonight we didn't get done with work until 8, so we were home pretty late. He's playing Mass Effect with his friend and we're expecting another one over for a few drinks later on. So, that'll be kind of fun. :)

..Sometimes I wish my boyfriend was more romantic. He gave me $65 to shop with (got a real Victoria's Secret bra... ooo!) and he paid for me to get waxed at a salon, hahaha. Neither very romantic, but both appreciated.

Thanks so much! Yeah, the mini goals help keep me going! My big goal is to have defined muscles by the pageant (in October), but since that's so far away, I try to set up these little challenges to keep me focused. I also give myself rewards too! Like I've always wanted to hike a (very small!) mountain... okay, it's a hill! After I completed my goal for January, I did it! :)

It feels amazing with that accomplishment to look back on when you're trying to get to something so big.

Plus I have a short attention span. Anything much longer than a month and I kinda space out. ;)

I gave up soda a while ago. But when I just absolutely need that sugar, I get some fruit juice. I usually drank Sprite or orange soda, so I always had citrusy flavors, so I just drink orange juice now, or fun blends (Orange, banana, and strawberry is my favorite!).

I know that sodas also have a lot of sodium (not so good), so there's another drawback. Try to keep it to one a day, and try some alternatives. I also like my lemon green tea! Different teas have different antioxidants (good stuff!) and have a lot of health benefits! Water's always the best choice, but if you need flavor, try something like passion fruit tea, orange juice, or even make yourself a fruit smoothy! (counts as a snack!)

I agree with imccarthy. Do your weights before your cardio, because then you'll also keep your heart rate going after you're done exercising. If you can sqeeze in little cardio bursts between sets of machines, that's even better though. It gets your blood pumping through your muscles and you'll lose more calories! :)
Weight Loss Starvation Mode Feb 13 2008
02:38 (UTC)
Usually your body goes into starvation mode if you don't have enough calorie intake to perform basic bodily functions. If you keep eating though, your body will know it needs to keep using what it's given, since it knows more is on the way. Starvation mode is what happens when you don't eat enough, and when you do, you body stores it as fat because it thinks it needs to live off that for a while. I hope I helped a bit. :-/

My boyfriend loves Jamba Juice (when he can afford it), and always gets a Power Boost. Hetold me one day, "Yeah, they may as well call it the Poop Boost. Just one of those and I'm cleared out for a day and a half!"

Now please tell me, whatever happened to "you can't say that there's a lady in the room,"? Hahaha!

Original Post by laschndr:

I think this post has turned into a bunch of complaints about the gym and what OTHER people are doing. (McDonalds and diet coke, salad and cigarettes, abs only - WHO CARES?!)

Irony is funny (Weight Watchers next to Dunkin Donuts and Chinese Buffet - that was my addition.)

Insults aren't that funny.

Nobody was insulting anybody. The examples you used are perfect examples of irony as well:

McDonalds and Diet coke: The people are clearly making a step in the right direction with cutting back on the sugar in their soda... but why even bother when you're getting such a large, unhealthy meal?

Salads and Cigarettes: Same thing. Person eating a salad? They're looking after their body. Don't want to put any of that gross stuff from food into it, right? Wrong, they've got a ciggy in their other hand.

Abs Only: Girls who think they're being so cool and efficient by only working on the muscles they really want worked up. But really, they're not even working that much anyways with little weight and few reps.

This is irony. That was the point of this thread (as stated by yourself). If I say I am trying to use my cell phone less and cut back on calling people, but start texting more, there was no real point. That's ironic.

Please don't throw accusations around.

This is gonna be so hard for me. Usually I let myself have one "fast food night" a week. I'll keep it in moderation (Jr Cheeseburger, kid's size fries, no soda), but I always get this little treat. This will definitely be a tough one for me!

Here's a question for all of you? Do you consider grilled chicken sandwiches a part of the "fast food" menu? Most people don't count yoghurt, salads, and other healthy options as "fast food" per se, but I just wanted to know if I could specify for everyone (including myself, tehe!) if grilled chicken would be off limits as well. Post what you think!

iridescent_identity: I really think you should chill out and stop throwing accusations and telling people they need to see a therapist. What qualifies you to make such a diagnosis?

On that note, you are not eating enough calories, BUT I don't think you have an eating disorder. Just try to get a few more calories here and there to add it up. Even a Hershey's Chocolate Kiss (especially the almond ones!) is good for a little 100 calorie boost unless you're watching your processed sugar intake. People really shouldn't go below 1200 for all their bodily functions to work properly. If you're under 100 below that, I think you're fine unless you start making it a habit.

Good luck on finding some new snacks! :)

Weight Loss Forgive me dieters for I have sinned... Feb 10 2008
21:16 (UTC)

Psh, that's nothing. Trust me, your body will do FINE! Don't stress about it. If you still feel guilty, do 10 minutes extra cardio or something. You'll be fine. You can be a healthy dieter and still enjoy a few little indulgences now and again. Just don't make it too frequent is all.

Also- you're better than me, I usually get a frosty with all that! Embarassed Since I noticed that, I try to cut the burger down to a JR Bacon Cheeseburger... without the bacon. Hahaha! Somehow I think it's still a tad worse than yours. So don't sweat it!

PS: Kudos on the AMAZINGLY creative post! I thought it was so ingenious! "10 hail calories..." ROTFL!

Health & Support Question for those who Have been on BC for a while Feb 10 2008

I still gain, but I used to have really erratic periods (anywhere from ever 3 weeks to nothing for 4 months. :-/). After I got on the pill it evened it all out to every 4 weeks for me.

I still get cramps (but only for 1 or 2 days as opposed to a week or so... and then maybe no period following!), and water-retention, but I think that's pretty natural. Again, it depends on what BC you use and how regularly you take it, etc. It also depends on your body type. Some people wig out when they get on BC, others are complete opposite (me :)! ).

I wouldn't sweat a few lbs during TTOM, though. it's pretty "normal" or average for most ladies to. Try to boost up your intake to help prevent retention though. Maybe that'll help.

Also, I totally loved the pill when I first got it. I'd been an A cup through most of HS, then a B my last year. During my first year of college, I started the pill and "blossomed" to a C! It was pretty cool. The bf liked it, needless to say. ;)
