| I was a swimmer, so I'd say completely disregard what I say...but I usually do a mile (1650 yds or 1500 meters) in 22-24 minutes. All freestyle. It's the only stroke I can swim and just zone out, and after about a half hour, it feels like time flew by. | |||
| Fitness | HIIT -- all or nothing? | Jul 27 2007 15:24 (UTC) |

| Yea I think shmoopy's got it right. When I used to ride the bike without HIIT I would be at about 160-165 or 170. When I started my "HIIT" I would get it up to about 190 bpm. My highest is 192 bpm...so I know based on my heart rate that I'm working hard. If I am having a slacking day and it only gets up to 180-185, I can see in front of me that I'm not working as hard. | |||

| sort-of pro: it has been proven to put you less at risk for lung cancer than smoking cigarettes. Also, I know in the Netherlands it has been legalized (as everyone knows), but it is only legal to carry up to (i think) 3 oz. Some small amount...no one, except for a few establishments that sell the drug in brownies and things like that where you would consume the drug like a drink in a bar, is allowed to carry more than that. If they are, they face charges. However, if you're walking down the street holding 3 oz. of pot in your hand, you obviously got it from a person/place that had more than 3 oz of it, but they just turn the other cheek. We could do something like that... |

| I have no idea...but I really miss my fuddruckers triple :(
There's just no taste sensation like it. I used to have them about once a week, but I'm sure it's a whole days worth of calories. |

| I thought that the muscles tearing was what built up muscle (when they heal themselves they're stronger or something...). So if I'm not getting anymore, how does muscle build up? | |||

| Well I know I don't need to. I'm definitely completely exhausted when I'm done...I'm usually out of breath for the next hour or two...but it's still only 20 minutes. But does it do any good to maybe hop on the bike for an extra 30 minutes afterwards, just keeping my HR at 140-150? Or is that gonna be pretty worthless? | |||

| HAHA. Two excellent ideas. I'm thinking about just leaving it on the floor by the front door. Then it would be peculiar. Maybe I'll put a "PLEASE RESPECT THE MUFFIN" sign right in front of the muffin and people-watch. I work in a gov't building so we get all types of random people coming through here, and I can covertly watch the front door. | |||

| WOW. I have nothing but the utmost respect for you guys...my problem is getting up as well, but moreso because it's linked to how late I go to bed. How do you go to bed at 9:00p or 10:00p? (or do you not?) | |||

| I'm 22 and I always have a problem drinking alot of calories (and then eating really bad food while drunk) on weekends. I was 189 lbs. on Thursday last week, and on Sat. night when I was drunk I got a small stuffed spinach pizza (10 in. diameter) and ate the entire thing. It's gotta be like 3000 cals at least. I weighed 194 lbs. this morning. Sigh......oh well, live and learn. | |||
| Fitness | Best bike for HIIT? | Jul 23 2007 13:20 (UTC) |

| I donno if this is what you're looking for, but I ride a LifeFitness bike at my local gym...they have different programs, and when I do my HIIT workout on it, I do a 15 min 'hill' workout, where you ride "up a hill" for one minute and "down a hill" for one minute. When I'm riding "up a hill" I sprint, and it seems to work great. | |||

| Oooh I forgot about Mates of State...I think I'll listen to them for the rest of the day. Have you ever seen them live? I went with one of my friends (a girl, but relationship was platonic) and the two of them are on stage just basically singing to each other and trying to turn each other on. By the time the show was over, there was so much sexual tension in the room (and the two of us) it was unbelievable. No joke. | |||

| Carrihound...saw Now It's Overhead when they opened up for Azure Ray. It was right after their self-titled came out, and I was so pumped because Blackout Curtain was probably my favorite song that year. Anyway, the lead singer was coked up out of his mind...starting yelling (and I mean YELLING) at people in the audience who were talking, and totally ruined the show for me. I can't even listen to them anymore and will not give any other albums a chance. Maybe I'm harsh, but meh...just an interesting anecdote. | |||

| This looks pretty solid to me too...I've been in and out of working out regularly for ten years and I do 25 min HIIT on the bike and 20 min HIIT rowing because I can't do either one for a long period of time in the same day. | |||

| If anyone here rides the stationary bike, do the "hill plus" setting and just do the basic hill program. It has its own preconfigured program, and you change the time. Set the time for 20 min, and sprint during the "hill" portions. It is absolutely priceless. | |||

| Awesome tips, thanks!
Just to answer your questions...I don't think I'm necessarily eating more on weekends, I'm just not eating as healthy of food. Maybe during the week I have a salad with chicken or a lean steak with steamed vegetables for dinner, but on Saturday night I have the chicken pasta. I think I am generally good at staying on the lean side of the menu. |

| Additionally, if I eat a little more on weekends, can I just workout more? I currently am netting (-1500 cals) a day during the week, so if I eat 400 more cals, can I just burn 400 more cals working out? | |||

| Hey all...first post ever!
I'm 22 and single, graduating college next year, majoring in Industrial Engineering. I've been single for the most part my whole life...a couple girlfriends here and there but just small relationships. I almost feel like an imposter, because I see some of you doing such great things with weight loss (like 50 lbs+!) and here I am just trying to lose 20 lbs. From 200 lbs to 180 lbs (I'm 6'1"). Anyway, it's been great so far...glad to be here! |
