thanks everyone for the suggestions! May I also suggest that if you love a food that is unhealthy/bad to try and eat it when you have the stomach flu? Completely turns you off the food for a while. |

| Thanks for all the replies! I know the exchange would be 1 protein, I was just wondering for what portion sizes. I bought a little bit of turkey to slip into sandwiches and my mom is making halibut tonight. I don't think I'm going to eat red meat for a while though... | |||

| to confess, I did at first try to have smaller portions, but my parents/friends made sure I didn't, and I just learned to 'be flexible' for the day. I also suspect I restricted a little the next day, but I got back to my normal eating plan after that. | |||

| Yeah, I've gotten that a lot to. A few of my standard responses are (some are sort of rude, but hey, some people deserve it)
"So you mean lettuce doesn't count as a main source of food?" "And here I was thinking I was fat..." "I was thinking the exact opposite about you!" "I would really appreciate it if we changed the subject. I'm sure everyone here is uncomfortable with talking about body weight." The last ones best if you want to be nice, but I like using the other ones as a source of humor (although that can come back to haunt you) |

| Yeah, I'm recovering from anorexia and was in Costa Rica the other day for a school trip, and we were ziplining and I stopped before the platform so I had to rappel my way to the end. The guide caught me at the end and said "You know why you stopped?" I asked why and he laughed and said "You're too skinny. You need to eat more tortillas." and then walked away. | |||

| thanks for the quick replies everyone! I guess I just got fast so quickly, I'm afraid of losing that speed and becoming slow like I was at the beginning of last year, and I haven't had a day where I haven't run since January...it feels weird, lol. Anyway, kelzo, I had stress fractures last year too. Aren't they the worst? | |||

| School: Sophomore at a 'California Distinguished High School', which apparently means if you're smart you have to take all advanced classes otherwise you fail at life and wont get into any college. So I get to take classes where it is impossible to get an A, but am still expected to get them. So I have to work my ass off. Fitness: Track practice every day after school and a track meet/ hard workout on Saturdays. Then I run with my sister (who is training for a marathon) on Sundays. I'm on one of the fastest track teams in California, so my best mile time (which is 5:40) is considered 'acceptable'. I win all of my races in frosh/soph, yet still I'm not 'that fast' in retrospect to some of the other girls on my team. Then I play in goal and sometimes on the field for soccer (CY, class 3) 2-3x a week. Social Life: I've begun to try to break away from my friends, who are mostly all shallow jerks who only care about something if it's full of gossip that they can later relate to their buddies. I hang out with my track team a lot and my sister... Plus I had anorexia last year and seperated myself from everyone so now I have to reestablish bonds. Love Life: What love life? I don't have the time or patience for one. lol. Family Time: This one I've got an earful to vent on. My dad was in a skiing accident this winter. He is now home all the time and really annoying. He tells jokes that aren't funny, acts depressed all the time, and can't remember what you told him 5 minutes ago. Plus everyone who sees him says how well hes doing, but they dont have to live with him (he has become so egotistical)! He says things all the time that I don't think he means, but they really hurt (i.e. You lost your soccer game? How many of the goals were your fault?) My mom has just been diagnosed with cysts in ovaries (don't know if their cancerous or not), and she doesn't like to talk about it, except now she is always in a semi-bad mood. My sister's at Stanford, and only comes by on weekends (we're really tight), so I feel like I'm all alone. Dang, that felt good to vent. Sorry to anyone who decided to read that, I'm not usually so cynical, I've just had a bad week... |

| I didn't mean to generalize, but there is also no need to be offended. And no offense to your doctor, but I'm not sure how healthy your weight actually is. The minimum weight for anybody over 5'7" is around 115-120, and that is still pushing it. Especially since you are a swimmer, you should have a more muscle weight too... | |||

| Thank you OrnellaNicole! I've been watching this thread for a while and am appalled. I'm 5'7", and recovering from an ED. My lowest weight was 112, and man did I look horrible. I had a fair amount of muscle but no fat, and believe me, its not a 'hip' or 'cool' look. A healthy weight for girls our size is b/w 120-140, depending on your frame... | |||

| 1. Do you exercise regularly?
Every single day 2. Do you run regularly? Again, every single day. I'm doing soccer now, but when I go back to cross country, it turns hard core. 3. Have you ever been injured while running? ha, who on my team hasn't? I've had knee problems, pulled/torn muscles, shin splints and stress fractures (that took me out for 6 months, which is how i developed my ED) 4. Have you been running for over 3 years? no, for 1-2 years 5. Are you ever worried about getting hurt by someone else while running? (i.e. getting hit by a car, kidnapped..etc.) not really...I usually run on public streets or with my teammates |

| Thanks,
I am worried about her though. I've been struggling with an ED for the past few months and I know the warning signs. She keeps talking about joining xcountry (which is fine if you do it for the right reasons), how many calories she's burned, and she claims that she is now allergic to chocolate (entirely possible, but its just weird it happened now). She's also a vegetarian. She's always saying she wants to look like me, and I still dont look healthy, as I have tried to explain to her multiple times (I actually tell her I envy how healthy she looks, which is entirely true). |

| Hey guys- I had a really tough last few weeks, and I just need to let it all out, so please bare with me if this is confusing or long. For New Years, we went to my aunts vacation home in sun valley, idaho, and I was really scared because obviously I'm not fully recovered, and I was basically being ripped away from my 'safety' foods. For the whole time we were there, I'd always miss a couple of carbs or proteins, but I did pretty well considering what I was given. But then, we went skiing, and my dad was in an accident, and I witnessed it. I guess the ambulance ride and seeing him pulled down the slopes traumatized me, because I was in shock for the next couple days, and I let Kat (my ED) take over, only eating a little bit of whatever anybody put in front of me (mostly light soups and salads, because my aunt didn't know I had an ED), and I started excercising A LOT to calm myself down. We drove down to Boise hospital a few days later to stay with my dad, and I realized how stupid I was, and how the last thing my dad would want me to do was ditch my recovery. So I tried to fit back into my eating plan (not very easy when all there is is hospital food, and I was still running daily for 45-60 minutes, along with other stuff). When I got home, I weighed myself (I know, bad) and realized that I had dropped 5 pounds that I had gained during recovery and was now getting closer to my 'skin and bones' look. But I have decided to make a conciouss effort to fix this, but I'm going to need all the help and advice I can get. The doctors are pretty optomistic about my dad by the way, and I am now living with my sister and boyfriend and will be staying with my aunt and uncle when they come in from NM. |

| If you're so heavily muscled, as you say you are, your weight is a little on the low side. I would personally die to be at your weight, and be 'healthy' again. I'm your same height but weight 115 pounds (I had been gaining, but then there was a serious family emergency, and I let my ED take over again, but I'm trying to gain again). What I'm trying to say is, looking at pictures of me is disgusting. It's all muscle and no fat, and believe me, a little fat is good. My advice is to stop counting calories now, especially if you're active. | |||

| I don't know if this is any help but Trader Joes sells these cookies called lowfat ginger 'cat' cookies. Their basically like ginger snaps in the shape of cats (look sort of like animal crackers, I guess). They have 120 calories for 15 cats. It actually feels like a lot of cookies too! | |||

| lol, carmenxox I can totally relate (my mom always asks if I'm taking laxitives/purposelly throwing up). I have almost the opposite problem than you guys, though. My parents assume that if they don't see me eat, then I'm not eating at all. Sure, that'd be true a few months ago, but I am actually trying to recover now. But for example, the other day we went out to lunch at Red Robins for my end of the year soccer party. I got a gardenburger (not b/c it was low cal, but b/c I'm a vegetarian), and naturally, my food came last. My dad actually asked one of my teammates, so that my teammates AND their parents could hear, to make sure that I ordered something. And then my coach started trying to make me eat onion rings, which I have hated even before I became anorexic. blech!
And my mom's the worst. She'll look at what I'm eating and be like, 'what does that count as'? And when I tell her (for example, 2 fats, 2 carbs), she'll say "are you sure? Maybe you should add more..." I know my own meal plan thank you so much! And she's always asking me what I ate for lunch, or breakfast, or whatever meal she didn't monitor. And my dad is always saying "Your body is like a car, you need fuel to be able to run fast...otherwise you'll break down by the side of the road..." (to which my ED would love to reply, 'can't I just be a hybrid/electric car?') I love my parents, but they seriously need to back off, especially in public. Which leads me to another thing my mother did (sorry this is long, I'm in a ranting mood). My grandmother was on her case about something, and in order to get her off, my mom told her about my eating disorder. Yes, thats right. She used my eating disorder as a way to get my grandma off her back, without telling me!!!!!!!!!! But I couldn't talk to her about it because she was already mad at me and it wasn't worth starting a huge fight over. |

| Hey guys-
I'm new to posting here, but like you, I'm also suffering from an ED. It's been almost impossible for me to gain weight (I've been seeing a nutritionist for 3-4 months, and I haven't gained a pound, no matter how much she bumps me). I think this was because of my excessive excercising (8-10 miles of running a day, and yes, surprisingly I was allowed to do this). Now that cross country season is over though, I'm supposed to be gaining back the 'muscle mass' and enough weight so that my periods return. This is going to be a really scary time for me... One thing I really found helpful and I hope will be of help to someone are promax bars (by my nutritionist, counts as 2 starch, 2 protein), because they aren't huge...and odwalla super protein drinks (again, 2 starch, 2 protein). The drinks are really thin, but if you add ice and bananas/blueberries/strawberries it tastes a bit like a milkshake (plus you get a few fruit servings in). It's a lot easier to take in than foods and I usually drink it throughout the day (1/2 morning, 1/2 night), which makes things A LOT easier. Just thought I'd share... |
