I have the same problem even when my boyfriend is trying to lose weight--he's just really bad about eating and orders food all the time. That changes a LOT when I make food. If I cook for him, we both eat healthier and cheaper! He's also started cooking for me :) So try cooking for everyone! They'll realize how good your food is, and you won't be tempted. Or if they don't eat your food, it's your own mini guilt trip for yourself--how awful would you feel if you cooked yourself dinner and instead of eating your delicious food, you ate their crap?! It's hard, but if you focus on cooking it helps. Good luck! And keep in mind: we've all been there and we're here for you! |

| I say soda, and when I laughed at my friend from Minnesota for saying "pop" she said it was because she said soda with that Minnesotan accent...so true. I've got her syaing 'soda' and it cracks me up every time. | |||

| One day, do three sets of 15. (If you can't do three sets of 15, do however many you can do). Skip a day. Next day, add one more rep to each set. Sometimes you can only add 1/2 a rep. Do it anyway. Every other day, add a rep to each set, and soon you'll be doing 3 sets of however many you want! Also switch it up, do wide grip, reverse grip, and any other types you can think of. You can get really creative, it's just hard for me to describe them on here lol | |||

Sully, that doesn't work for me either...my mom's 5'1", my dad's 5'11", and I'm 5'7"...
There's really no telling how tall you'll be. My doctor said I was going to be 5'4". All of the women in my family are 5'1" and under. Yet I'm 5'7". Hmm... |

It's always tempting to go up and snap the strap...but I wouldn't want to touch it and I know I'd get pretty weird looks. But I'd love to see a girl walk by a guy and have him snap it. *ow*
(And yea...gross. Ew.) |

Hey girls, sorry I've been away so long! Congrats to everyone who accomplished their goals (though it seems like very few of us did this week! Oh well, just keep on truckin'!) and to those who almost did, good job and keep on going! For the completely-missed-its...yea, me too. But hey, that's what next week is for. I did yoga 3 times instead of 5, but I did manage more cardio than usual. For the week that's half over... yoga yoga yoga, cardio cardio cardio, and to stop counting calories and enjoy my last home-cooked meals before heading back to school on Sunday. Would you gals consider dancing all night a fair amount of cardio? I'm trying to justify not doing cardio on Friday...I'm talkin' pretty hardcore, nonstop salsa/merenge (yea I can't spell that)/club dancing. Yes? No? Maybe? Does it count more if my trainer's there? |

I know how you feel :/, gained some freshman weight then lost it, and I don't want it back! I'm bringing up a ton of tupperwares, and I'm planning on always having yogurt, cottage cheese, fruits, and vegetables in my fridge. And by taking it from the dining hall you save expenses lol...I'm also planning exactly which classes I'm eating between (I do the small meals thing) in advance. DOes your dining hall have a salad bar/vegan options? I know I'm going to be focusing on those lines instead of the other crap they serve... For the drinking...I'm just gonna try to factor that into my thurs-sat calorie counts and hope it works lol. Good luck! |

| I have my 32oz water bottle with me at all times. I fill it up to the top in the morning (which is about 40oz), then all day I pour from that into my ice-filled glass, and consider the melted ice bonus. I fill it 3 times a day~at least 120oz, plus the 500 billion melted ice cubes! | |||

| jenna, you're probably not negating the workout. The deal with eating late at night (from what I've read, and it makes sense) is just that you burn fewer calories while sleeping then you do while awake and moving around. If you're under your calories overall you shoudl be fine, but eating a huge meal right before sleeping and burning very few calories isn't great. If you just worked out though, your metabolism is in overdrive anyway (plus you want to restore your glycogen and protein levels to sufficiently recover from your workout). | |||

I'm 5'7", 19, 130 lbs, and I eat between 1900 and 2300 cals/day. Weight workout 6 days a week, HIIT 3 days a week, and power yoga 3-4 days a week.
And I agree that a lot of y'all aren't eating enough... |

Hey ladies! Elle, I get shin splints too! It's terrible! I love to run and I hate the elliptical :( But I bike and stairmaster instead, so it's ok. But definitely don't overdo it if your shins keep hurting, shin splints get worse with time and abuse! You can try stretching your calves out a lot and also doing some exercises to loosen up your tendons and see if it helps (moving your toes in a circle so you're rotating your ankle, writing the alphabet with your toes, etc). If you want more advice, search the forums for 'shin splints', I started a thread on it a couple of weeks ago and got some good advice. Don't remember what it all was though :P Tan-nut (your new nickname :D) the yoga is good! It's haaaard! I probably should have listened to the reviewers on amazon who said not to buy the DVD if you have less than 6 months experience...whoops. But I do as much as I can and no more, and I'm already seeing progress, so it's all good! Good job on your meals! If you need any help, let me know, I luurve to cook and if I can throw any ideas your way I'd be happy to! And don't worry about that pesky half-lb, they don't count anyway :P At least not when you gain them, only when you lose them! Nreid glad you're feeling better! Definitely don't overdo it and relapse! And streeetch out those sore muscles. Mmmm. I don't have Tania's note taking abilities (plus I'm lazy), so good job to everyone else and keep up the good work! Warm welcome, newbies! |

I don't know if this will help, but I can assure you that no one is thinking that (and if they are, they shouldn't be there themselves). People are focused on working out, and if anything (in my book, anyway), they are thinking "good! I'm glad that person's at the gym!" After all, everyone has to start somewhere! Good for you for getting started! |

General consensus from the million other posts on this topic: Do what makes you feel the most comfortable.
That being said, you get more done if you do strength training before cardio. Better for both st and cardio, so it's a win-win situation. |

| HK I think their point was yes, there are exceptions. There are a myriad of reasons that people actually can't lose weight. But that's just it: they're exceptions. As for the general rule, for those people who insist that they "can't lose weight" when they really mean "won't bother to try hard enough but will complain about it anyway"...that's who they're talking about. The majority of obese Americans don't necessarily have the problems you listed, but are lazy and do eat badly. | |||

Thanks girls! :) It was fun, nothing special except for going out to dinner with my parents. But my dad gave me an iPod shuffle for working out :P so I'm really excited! No more having to stuff my big iPod down my sports bra so I can listen to music...changing the song got kind of awkward ::reaches hand into bra to push "next" button:: sasha if you are really not getting enough protein, you can try protein shakes! I drink Optimum Nutrition whey (though they suggest that women drink soy, but you can drink when if you want), and it has 24 g protein and 120 cal per 8 oz serving. The double chocolate is really good ("gold standard" is the marketing name) and you just mix a scoop with water or milk. Tasty! |

Hi ladies! It's been a while I know :( I didn't make goals yesterday 'cause it was my birthday and I would've broken them all anyway :D So here are my goals for the weekend, rather than just today, to make up for lack of them yesterday: cardio at least 2x. Yoga at least 2x. Take a day off from weights. Keep calorie count under 1450 to make up for last night! Congrats on everyone for meeting your goals from the past couple of days! And good luck for today and the rest of the weekend! Happy friday! |

| I LOVE Brian Kest. I have his DVD, and while I don't have the six months background that reviewers on Amazon suggested...I love it. Yes, it's hard, but as long as you've done some yoga and know how to make the harder poses easier until you can do the full pose, you're ok. I think he's fantastic, I love his style and approach. It is definitely hard though. | |||

lschumacher, a zig-zag diet is where you zig-zag your calories, so you alternate higher calorie days and lower calorie days. I'm not very good at it 'cause I'm not living on my own, so I haven't really gotten any results yet, but once I go back to school hopefully I'll be better at it. It's supposed to not only break plateaus, but also build muscle at the same time that you're losing fat, which is what I want to do, it just takes a bit longer to lose the fat. If you were doing it for that reason though, I'd up the weight training if possible. We should be buddies! Lol you're the first person I've found with a similar build on here. |
