| Okay, teachers...especially those that commute. What do you do for breakfast? I live in a metropolitan area and travel 20 min north to drop my son off and then another 40 minutes south to work so I leave at 6:30 every morning in order to get to work by 7:45. There is no way I'm ready to eat before 6:30 am. I generally eat in the car at around 7:15. So that limits me to what I eat. Any suggestions? | |||

| Thanks for the young complement! I attribute it to teaching those kiddos...they keep me young!
I eat 3 meals and about 3 snacks. I try and keep my snacks to fruits and veggies to keep my metabolism going throughout the day. I was watching Oprah the other day and Dr. Oz was on there talking about a "Magic Drink" ...a fruit type shake that he makes that he puts protein powder and psyllium husks (Metamucil) and other stuff. He drinks this for breakfast and that keeps his metabolism going and prevents hunger for a longer period of time. So I think i may log on to Oprah...I think he said to go to Oprah and friends...and look into that. I find it easier to eat in the car on the way to work so that limits what I eat. I have to leave every morning at 6:30 am to get my son to daycare and then make it to work by 7:45. |

| I'm starting my 10th year as a middle school art teacher. 10 years ago I was 60 lbs lighter. about 20 of that is pregnancy left overs but the rest of that I think had a lot to do with teacher lounges and teaching stresses. I used to never eat chocolate before I started teaching but it always was waiting for me in the lounge or copy room or PTA was putting stuff out and I was putting it in my mouth! Now, I tray to just run in and out as teacherfun said. But on those days I falter I guess I'll just make another trip to the gym. I also have a snack drawer in my desk with raisins, pretzels, wheat thins, maybe a few oranges or apples for when I get those cravings. When I'm really hungry I try to eat a little bit during the passing periods. I'm not sure inhaling lunch because it's only 25 minutes can be fixed but I always bring my lunch instead of going to the cafeteria. The cafeteria has carbs, starch, processed food and more starch.
I'm trying to only eat things that are from an animal or the earth and processed as little as possible. I actually said no to Pringles and Cheetos as the other moms at our community pool picnic drooled over my turkey and alfalfa sprout sandwich with basil mayo. Bathroom is crazy at my school too. I have to walk practically across the whole building to get to one! So I pray for a good schedule with not too many classes in a row. I find I'm too busy to even think about drinking some days. It all goes so fast! I just put my drink right by my seating chart because I have to look at it each period so it reminds me to drink! I'm concerned about keeping up my work out schedule once school starts. Right now I'm going at 9:30 at night...after I put my son to bed. I know soon I'll be neck deep in grading and not wanting to go late at night (when I actually get peace and quiet to do some work) so I think I'm going to try and make it out of school right at 4 (that's when we can leave...but as you all know we usually stay way later than we have too!) Anyway I'll try and make it out right at 4 on Tuesdays and Thursdays and go straight to the gym...I also have a hungry husband and 4 year old at home so I have to work around them. But I figured I could do it right after school during the week. I'll just take my duffle bag and leave it in my car on those days. I commute about 25 minutes to work so on those days I might go to a club that is closer to work. |

| Well, I have 550 calories left for dinner tonight. I still have a problem saying no to those carbs! It's only been day 4 and I'm already making better choices though so I'll just have to say no and stop buying those carbs! It's hard when I have a husband who's not dieting and a 4 year old boy. But I can do it!
I had a bagel and apple with peanut butter this morning and another turkey and alfalfa sprout sandwich for lunch. I think my husband said he wanted to try Turkey Wraps for dinner. That Tuna and Celery sounds really good and refreshing! As far as the weighing thing goes, I've weighed myself twice in the past 4 days...just to see. When I diet I usually stick with the once a week because I'm generally more pleased with my progress that way. Have you tried the Activity Log? 3 1/2 hours of pushing that cart around the store is a decent calorie burner. Last night I went to the gym and walked a mile and biked for 3 1/2...not much, but my legs were realllly sore. They are better today though. I'll have to go read me some Galatians tonight. My replacement for oreos and ice cream these past 4 days has been either a Granny Smith apple with peanut butter or a frozen low fat strawberry whole fruit bar. I still have a lot of habits to change but I'll get there! I'll have to go check out the other Christian forum and I'll let you know what I think tomorrow. My focus is weight loss right now. I'm pretty motivated as it is. But there's no harm in checking it out! |

| My LONG term goal is 170. The last time I was that weight I was a senior in high school and a size 14. That sounds really good right now. Especially since I'm a size 22/24. Once I get there who knows I might want to go further. I have a 4 year old son and want to get pregnant again. We aren't really trying right now but we're not preventing. BUT, I don't want to get heavier with pregnancy. So, my main motivation is another child. I also want to treat my body as His temple. A concept I had no idea of for a loooonng time. I'm just learning to be a good steward of His money with budgeting and all and I need to give this part of my life to Him too and not give in to my flesh and what the world throws at us. A long time ago I asked him to help me loose weight and he told me all I had to do is follow His Word. Sounds easy. It is and it isn't but I have Him to go to and now I talk to you all too. I'm so glad I found this sight.
A sub-goal is winning $1,000 dollars! I've actually entered into a 60 day fitness challenge with a local radio station and have a 60 day trial membership to Bally Total Fitness (I have NEVER joined a club) I can't believe I entered this contest but I heard the add and just felt in my heart I had to do it. I was watching Oprah a couple of weeks ago and she had a doctor (health guru) on and he said that many people complain about not being motivated. He said that sometimes you just have to start and the motivation will come. That's what I decided to do. I also need accountability. So this challenge is the tool I'm using to help me treat my body the way He would treat it. I went to my orientation 2 days ago and got to meet once with a personal trainer for free (as a part of the challenge) and he kicked my butt! I did things I haven't done in 15 years! I didn't give up though! I looked so clumsy but I wouldn't quit. I finished everything thing he threw at me and I felt like I was going to throw up when I got home. I've also been limping around like an old lady for 2 days because of soreness in my thighs. But I'm going to go walk on the treadmill tonight and try to work the soreness out. My plan of attack is: I've been researching on about.com about workout routines since I haven't the foggiest idea and I think I'll do the workout the personal trainer showed me on Tuesdays and Saturdays and do cardio exercises on Thursdays and Sundays. I've also got all my info entered into the calorie counter and am doing good. My daily caloric intake is 1950 right now and I'm doing pretty good. I've lost 2 lbs since Tuesday. I'm sure I'll fluxuate but the motivation seems to be kicking in. Tonight for dinner we had an awesome Turkey, spinach and alfalfa sprout sandwich with tomatoes and basil mayo. My husband (who is overweight too) even wanted to take a picture of it! As far as teaching goes. I'll be starting my 10th year this August and I definately have my hard days still but I LOVE the kids. Especially the junior high age (7th and 8th grade). They are developing so much intellectually and they are so funny! A few weeks off in the summer also boosts my desire to get back into it each year. I have about 2 1/2 more weeks before I get back to it but I'm already ready to get back to it and meet new kiddos and be a good witness to them and a loving support. I could go on and on but my pug Sugar is crossing her legs and wanting to go for a walk before she has an accident. Sorry if I rambled on! I guess it's the teacher in me! :) "Make your plans in pencil and give God the eraser." -anonymous- I |

| Good luck Katyk! I also just joined a club two days ago. Really depressing how out of shape I've let myself become. I'm 272! Can't even stretch or balance without looking like a clutz and a few other choice words we've all heard but I won't mention. BUT....it's motivation to get back to what I've been before and even better. Keep up the routine. I just keep telling myself, I didn't let myself down and I proved to myself and that personal trainer that I COULD last and get through it. It wasn't very pretty but I DID it. Now if I can just get over this muscle soreness...ouch! | |||
