kezza- I'm sure everyone here can relate to feeling the out of control.... When you let the food wheel go and and do just about anything... Just because you can. And you don't know what happened. You're left sitting in the ruins of your self assurances and cracker crumbs.... We can do it together! We're going to set sail with a different wind!
P.S. Jiffy is peanut butter :P Peanut butter + chocolate = ruination.

kathryn- I'm so glad this has reached out and helped somebody! Stop by anytime! :)

jembop-  Always glad to be of service, and I'm really flattered you think I'm funny. Now if only it was a combo deal that came with self control... There's no reality check quite like a scale, is there? Do you have a date for your goal weight (maybe to the movies?) Bad joke.... Or is it just when you get there, you get there?

flown- Keeping in touch definitely sounds like a great idea. When the snacking gets out of control, it will be nice to have someone to remind me that it's not the end of the world! (Or maybe when it STAYS under control, to share internet high fives. :D) And of course vice versa! What are your plans for the summer?

Right now I'm looking for a job and stuck at home with nobody to keep watch over me and a full cupboard staring at me. EEP~ I hope we have swords and cannons on this ship... (Yes, insert the mental image of me running a cutlass through a bag of Jalapeno Doritos now.)

MAC AND CHEESE. Which is popular.

I'm really surprised that only one other person that I NOTICED (I could just be tired :P) said Grilled Cheese sandwiches. Here in Res the Grilled Cheese sandwich is like the HOLY GRAIL of food. =)

And we live on comfort food. (That or cereal.) Mashed potatos with laughing cow light in them...

Basically anything with cheese makes my list!!! :P

Young Calorie Counters gaining in college... but not for the reason you'd assume Sep 18 2008
07:43 (UTC)
I've lost a pound and a half since I came to college weirdly...:S I stepped on the scale this morning and BAM.

1.I TRy to avoid unhealthy food in my room...TRY being the key word.

2. I try not to eat when my roommate isn't around. When she's here I can keep my appetite in check. If she's not, there's a chance I'll go kamikaze and eat all the babybel lights in the fridge.

3. I make portions for ONE.... If the things on your food plan are big I'd split it with a friend or save it for later or something? I'm not sure...

4. NEVER give into the "Oh I already messed up I might as well...." mentality. I did that this weekend. :S

....I had another one but I forgot it. D:

Bonding is usually good! Until we have a party. My family are like...nutty party animals and I usually end up jumping right into food/pop/everything along with them! And my mom is a stellarly good cook.xD Lately I've been training them to be more health concious but dad still buys chocolate bars by cases in Costco and mom still stocks the cupboards with chips! EEP~

The equation gets even more complicated for me! It's like

Me + Friends= Bad food

Me + Family = alright food

Me + alone = Good food.

UNLESS

Alone = loneliness = bad food choices

In which case: Me + Alone = BAD food. D:

The judgement thing is a really big deal for me. I don't like to bitch and moan (okay, maybe a little) but I actually have an anxiety disorder/ secondary social phobia, and imagining people judging me/rejecting me/ not liking me because of a stupid number just sucks.

And I don't like eating at the mall.... I don't mind restaurants but I feel like if I decided to indulge in a slice of pizza or a little A&W, I'd be condemned.

I'd like people to know that I didn't balloon from being a small person, that I was always a big person and that I'm doing well to fix that.

...Also don't like needing fixing. y.y
Motivation My son called me fatty - what was your turning point? Jul 31 2008
02:35 (UTC)
...Being the gym class impaired kid has always just been my permanent state. I'm my father's daughter, and my father at the moment, is quite a big man himself.

I was always wishing I could be smaller, fit into smaller sizes. I would always try to make healthy eating choices but I never committed to anything. During my early teenage years 14-15-16, my mother tried to make me go to the gym. And I wanted to, but my irrational teenage brain told me to rebel  and I stayed away.

The final cut was I realized that I had one year of highschool left, I'd never had a boyfriend, I was self concious and plus size prom dress shopping would be the WORST. I planned on going to college (which I am) and I wanted to change me and my life.

Of course the dozens of rude comments over the years helped too. (Emotional scarring, anyone?)
Weight Loss Stress Eating Jul 31 2008

...Can definitely relate to the stress eating over here. I find the best thing to do is stay the heck out of the kitchen/the food source. It's hard and sometimes I still grab for the oreos and peanut butter (YUM...tasty guilt trip!) but I have a better chance of surviving if I am away from the food itself. =)

Or drinking water until I'm edging on uncomfortably full. :\

Dave,
Pouring your heart out this honestly has gotten you a lot of attention, so I don't expect you to read this, but I'm putting it up with good vibes and a smile on my face. Thank you for writing this. I can't say I've felt all that you have, seen all you have seen, but I witnessed it as I read your story.
You're a real champion for working this hard, coming this far, and I think you can't be told that enough times, no matter how many people reply to this thread. (Which I hope is a lot because a dose of the positivity and hope you've got is just what people around here need.)
Congratulations on taking control, and becoming who you want to be. All the Best! Ri :)

I don't know how much deep, thought provoking mind set I can put in here. I mean.... I know CC has done great things for me. The people and the system were my solution. I mean...I'm 18 years old. Of course I'm going to be on a computer every day! Logging calories? Blogs? Sure thing!

I remember thinking, "this is great...now if only it works..." And surprise of all surprises...it does. :) And it is still working.

I mean, I knew the mechanics of weight loss. Eat less, eat well, exercise more. But what the people on CC have taught me has coloured in (and somewhat outside!) the lines. If I hadn't heard some of my CC pals talking about running, I never would have stepped onto the treadmill. I'd still be glued to the elliptical. That change was the difference for me between a work out and a satisfying work out.

And that kind of accomplishment is the kind of thing people here get to share in:)

Uhm. Wow that was kinda weak.xD I'm sticking around to read more!
