| What age are you? I have the same situation, but I am almost 62, so I figure that is contributing to part of it.
I also agree with nomoreexcuses that maybe depression is at work here - check that out. I also have found that the more I exercise, the more energy I have. I know that sounds crazy, but for me it holds true. |

| I don't understand how anyone with a large frame who is 5'8" can wear a Size 8.
I have been 5'8" since I was 15 and probably weighed about 130. I couldn't begin to get into a Size 8. I wore Size 12 most of the time, occassionally a Size 10 (in a more expensive garment). But an 8 - no way! The arm length wouldn't even work, nor would the other areas, like shoulder width, etc. My goal weight at this point in my life is 145 and Size 12 again. Is it possible some of you ladies are from other countries where the sizing is different than in the US? Just wondering, but good luck to all of you, and if Size 8 is your goal - go for it!!! |

| Weight Loss | Anyone have any comments/reviews on the new Alli diet pill?? | Sep 13 2007 02:43 (UTC) |
2 |
| I haven't tried Alli because I was advised not to by my son (physician, internal medicine) and also by my primary care physician.
My PCP told me Alli was originally available by prescription only and when she prescribed it for patients, they only lost 5-6 pounds and then no more. All of her patients experienced serious bloating, oily gas, etc. Thus, considering the cost, I think I will just stick with CC and my workouts at Curves. I've been at that for about two months now and have lost 8 pounds, and I have NO side effects other than feeling better! Just one woman's (and two physicians') opinion(s)!! |

| Obviously, most of you who have posted here are young women. I am almost 62 and have worn White Shoulders exclusively since I was 16 years old.
It is a very feminine, floral fragrance, but alas, not terribly in vogue today. That's okay, I can still find it and will continue to wear it forever. It has become my "signature" fragrance and people recognize I am present even before the see me from the lovely aroma! |

| Don't ever put the pasta in the water until it is at a full rolling boil. Stir frequently and this will help with the sticking. Drain and rinse immediately after removing from the heat. | |||

How very lovely of you to remember us today. The UK is indeed our friend and I personally thank you for your prayers. I fortunately did not lose anyone on this awful day, but our whole country lost something in that our world changed on 9-11-01 and we will never be the same. Again, thank you. |

| Hi Barb,
I for sure would like to be your friend. We have a lot in common. I also quit smoking and gained 50 pounds. I now am working on getting rid of it, so welcome to the club! I'm glad I gave up the smoking (after 40 years), but I could do without the weight. I am older than you, be 62 in December, and losing weight at this age is tough, but I am determined. I have lost 8 pounds since July and my doctor says that is a good rate. I work out at Curves at least 3 times a week. I don't have a real problem with the calorie limits, just wish I could get back to a size 12 sooner. I am 5'8" and wore a 12 most all my life until this. Oh well, we'll keep each other encouraged. Good to meet you! Sharon McCay, ssmccay@juno.com |

| Hello All,
I just found this thread and I'm glad to see it has been revived. I definitely qualify for this group since I quit smoking 3 years ago this month. Great thing to do for my health, but I gained 50 pounds. This is the first time in my life I have needed to lose weight, even after two pregnancies the weight came off easily. I am about 5'8" and once wore sizes 12-14. Am now squeezing into 16 and probably should be using 18s. Of course, being almost 62, the ole metabolism is getting very sluggish, but I am going to Curves at least 3 days a week and so far am being very faithful in counting calories. I started at 202 and am down to 194, so it is working. I want to get back to the 140-150 range where I was three years ago. I have a whole closet full of clothes waiting for me to get back into them! I have bought a few things to accommodate the increased size, but I have sworn an oath that I won't purchase another garment until I lose this weight! Some of you sound much younger than I, so perhaps you can help this old lady with something. I need to know the full meaning of lol and imo and others like this. I know these are acronyms used frequently in text messaging (which I don't do - just e-mails), so I could use a definition if someone is so inclined to help me. I think lol is lots of luck, but I could be wrong! Thanks, and it's great to get to know some other "big-boned" gals. |

| Hey Deborah!
Sounds like we are maybe twins? I don't know your age, but the slowing metabolism is my arch enemy also. I, too need to lose around 50 pounds. I've been going to Curves for about a year and been on Calorie-Count for just over two months. I started at 202 and am now down to 194, so it does work! I am retired, so I don't have any excuses for not doing what I should do. So far, the 1650 calories a day is no problem for me. I am fortunate in that I don't really have cravings. I gained all this weight when I quit smoking three years ago and with my age, taking it off means working at it. Good to get to know you. Let's stay connected! I live in Louisville, KY - check out my profile. Do we have any similar interests? Sharon |

| I think you need to re-think your system for maintaining a healthy weight. The weight loss the first time was probably too rapid and thus you gained it back.
Check out The Calorie-Count.com diet posting under the Weight Loss forum. It will explain things really well and help get you started in the right direction. Have you calculated you required caloric intake yet? It's important that you know that, because eating too few calories messes up the metabollism and makes maintaining a healthy weight almost impossible. Lastly, don't give in to the "guilts" - it's a waste of time and I don't think worrying burns many calories! Start with right now, forget what you did wrong, and keep looking ahead. Take it one day (or food, snack, whatever) at a time! |

| I eat it with the skin most of the time. I also make a dip/spread called Benedictine that is basically pureed cucumbers (peeled), onion salt and no fat cream cheese. It's great on crackers!
Benedictine is a local item, so if you can't find it in stores in your area, I will be glad to send the recipe. It's easy to make and lasts a long time. My sister and I have eaten cucumber/olive/cream cheese sandwiches all our lives. She likes black olives while I prefer the green, but either is great (if you like that kind of stuff). Here's to healthy munching! |

| I would talk to a doctor about the remaining symptoms. Is there a possibility of depression being involved. I know from personal experience that depression can leave one feeling exhausted all the time, regardless of physical activity.
I would also suggest checking the internet on this condition and any long lasting effects. And lastly, are your eating properly? I know that sometimes concern about weight gain/loss can alter our thinking about healthy eating and you may need to make some changes in that area. Good luck! |

Have you considered forgetting perfection and being happy with a healthy, productive body? I would think you have one with all you do already. |

| Personally, I wouldn't let it bother me. In reality, are you improving yourself for yourself or for other people?
Envy no doubt is involved, but that is the problem of the other people, not yours. Jealousy usually indicates low self esteem and overt negativism is an attempt to make the envious feel better about themselves, which doesn't work, but that's all they know to do. Just be proud of yourself for what you accomplish and ignore those who are attemting to sabotage your efforts. You might also want to consider finding other friends who are more self confident and don't need to belittle others to make themselves look better. |

| Hello and thank you for the wonderful postings about prayers for my sister.
I have good news to report. Her treatments are going well, she is halfway through the chemo and almost halfway through the radiation treatments. She is having a problem with a severe sore throat, but has been given meds to help with that. Her blood count remains good and she has stopped losing weight, so she may be able to avoid having a feeding tube if she can maintain her weight. At her chemo treatment this week, the doctor felt her throat and commented that the growth felt smaller! Prayers are being answered!!! Again, thank all of you for the prayers and please continue to pray for her. Overall, I know God is in this whole ordeal and we will prevail, thanks to all the praying being done. God Bless You All! | Yes, it could and also, not having your period indicates there is something wrong that needs to be checked by a doctor.
Talk to your parents. Of course they are worried, they love you. I am a parent and I know I would move Heaven and earth to help my children and I would definitely want to know when they are hurting. Not telling your parents is not fair to them, and I don't think you want to do that. It is courageous of you to want to handle this on your own, but there is no shame in needing help and asking for it from the people who love you most, your parents. Promise me you will talk to them and get them involved in this with you. I will keep you in my prayers. Sharon |

| Well, you are not alone by any means. I know lots of folks here at Calorie Count will respond and be more than willing to help you.
However, I am afraid you need some in-person help, maybe even from a health care professional (doctor). You didn't say how tall you are or your age, but the other symptoms you mentioned (not having a menstrual period) indicate you have a serious problem and you need professional help immediately. If you can't talk to you parents, is there someone at school, like a counselor or favorite teacher? Are you involved at all in a church where there might be someone you trust who could get you to the help you need? Are you absolutely sure you can't talk to your parents? They would be the best people in the world to help you if that is possible. Regardless, please take my advice and get some help. You are bordering on some major health issues that need to be addressed NOW. Please feel comfortable writing me personally at ssmccay@juno.com if you would like to talk one on one. I will stay in touch however you want, but I can't do much from a distance. God bless you and I hope to hear from you VERY SOON. And again, YOU ARE NOT ALONE. If you are comfortable with doing so, try praying and asking God for His help. He is ALWAYS available. Sharon McCay, Louisville, KY |

| The Lounge | ACNE PROBLEMS (please HELP!!!) | Sep 07 2007 15:38 (UTC) |

| Try making a paste of finely crushed oatmeal with water. Apply to the clogged pores areas and let dry. This will draw out the clogging and you can remove it using a mild cleansing product.
Avoid forcing out the clogs as that will irritate the skin, but if you must push out the stuff, use Q-tips and be very gentle. Foods don't cause acne, unclean skin does. CLEANSE, CLEANSE, CLEANSE. There are hypoallergenic products at most drugstores for cleansing and for closing pores after doing so. They are not all that expensive and they do work. But, the oatmeal thing is great for getting rid of the bad places at first. Good luck - and I agree about the water, the more, the better and if you can tolerate it, add some sliced lemon to the water - it cleanses the whole system! |

| Contrary to what some others have advised, try not to worry so much about other people, focus on your own achievements.
No matter what you attempt, there will ALWAYS be SOMEONE who can do it better! If you doubt this is true, just consider the presidency of the United States - the most prestigious position in our country - and the candidates who all say they can and will do it better!!! Again, be the best you can be and work on not worrying so much about others. If they are more skilled than you, that is fine. You need to be happy with what you accomplish and proud of yourself for getting in there any trying! And finally, on this I do agree with the others who have responded to you, it will get better as you get older. You will find your talents and be able to be happy for others when they find theirs. Taking revenge against the supposedly "perfect" girl will only make you appear immature and foolish. By all means, don't do anything to cause that. Be true to yourself and maintain your dignity. |

| Welcome!
You need to go to the tools on Calorie Count and calculate how many calories you should be consuming daily. 800 is not enough, you should be somewhere above 1200 for your body to maintain metabolism. Check out the moderators extensive explanation of calories, metabolism, activity, etc on this site. This will be a BIG help to you. Good luck. I've been using CC for about 6 weeks and have lost 8 pounds, so following their advice DOES work! |
