Hi well I have had a few problems getting back into the swing of things after being on holiday, and amazingly I am back to my "pre-holiday" weight, and minus two pounds.   I need to get back into the exercise routine though which has seriously lapsed.   My next motivational milestone has got to be Christmas as I have seen the most outrageous little black dress that I would love to wear.   Anyone any ideas on how to tone up arms quickly?  I have been doing the usual with bags of sugar (or even house bricks) but this does not seem to be working........

I put cinnamon on porridge or oatmeal in the mornings,  also I add it to low fat yoghurt and eat it with lots of melon.  I find that cinnamon takes the edge of my appetite, and also seems to cure the "sweet" craving.  Occasionally when I treat myself to a capuccino, then I have it sprinkled on top instead of chocolate....

Lunch today: (a small amount of each):

lettuce, celery, green peppers, home made coleslaw, tomatoes, cucumber.

Dinner tonight: (same as last night as I cook double and split):

white cabbage, green whole beans, carrots, boiled potatoes and spinach.

Boring I know, but I put black pepper on top and have got quite used to it.

p.s. I have just been on two weeks holiday and am now trying to get back on course.......

Hi everyone, I am now back on line as I am back at work.  God I hate Mondays!  I am also back on the diet with a vengeance as from today.  After a trip to NY I then went to Spain for five days - lovely grub at both places.   I checked my weight on Friday and found that I had gained 2.5lbs, but I have since shed that.  So I reckon that all this slow dieting really pays, as the weight just stays off which is great news.

So its back to the black coffee, lots of water, and salad for lunch but in some ways I am looking forward to a bit of a "detox" especially after all the sangria I have been drinking.......

Apologies for the delay in posting, but I have been in Spain on vacation, and have had no access to the internet, but am back now and back on the diet. Fortunately I didn't gain any weight, which is a miracle!

Hi everyone. my diet is still going okay, despite being in the US where the food is wonderful!

Tara- date is going fine.  Had to meet him at the restaurant at top of Empire State Building - nervous or what!  Dropped my fork underneath the table, which was embarrassing.  Luckily I didn't miss my mouth with the food or drink.   Okay so its 30 years on from when we last met but its good.  No he doesn't float my boat anymore, but very pleasant.  We have been to Central Park, theatre, ballet, and so on, and am off up to Vermont with him tomorrow, and then I fly back to London Tuesday and back to reality and work..........

I seem to have lost more weight but I think some of it is stress........and rushing around.  I still eat healthily and no more rubbish - sweets, cakes, biscuits, chocolate etc., and continue to loose maybe a pound every 1-2 weeks.  So its 19lbs so far which I am pleased with.

Report more when I get back to the UK, and when I jump on the scale next........

Just checking in to say hi...........I must admit I have been a bit "remiss" over the past couple of weeks with the diet, primarily because I have had a chest infection/heavy cold or whatever and felt really rough.  I probably ate more than I usually do, but I stuck to just eating healthily and I was surprised that after two weeks I had lost another 3lbs, which I didn't expect.  So the weight is dropping off oh so slowly but at least its on the decline....  I need to get stuck into the exercising again though.

So I am still plodding away........slow but sure!

Tara - my hot date is Monday 24th in Manhattan at 6pm.  Nervous or what!  Got to find myself a new dress yet!

I haven't been dieting as hard as I normally do for the past few weeks as I have been ill, and neither have I been doing much exercise, but I have eaten very healthy with only one or two "mishaps" along the way, but I have managed to lose another 3lbs.

Back to the rigid diet again today!

Best wishes to everyone out there

Hi everyone.  I am really glad I found this thread as well, it keeps me going!

For those of you in the UK, Tesco's and Sainsburys do a can of Tuscan Bean Soup, with the calorie content written on the side of the tin which is really handy.  I tried to make it myself and 1) it was not as good and 2) I couldn't work out the calorie content.

I am veggie anyway so plate fulls of vegetables I am relatively happy with.   Last night I had green beans, soya beans, carrots, broccoli, swede and so on.  I usually do enough for two days, so I have the same for tonight.  The only comment I would make is that its a good job I live on my own.  I really need to work out exactly how many calories I am consuming each day, as I think I may be eating more than I think.

Karmankaye - welcome :-)

Tara - no I am not getting nearer to my goal unfortunately.  How I would love to lose at least 10lbs by 24th September which is when I have to make my way to the restaurant at the top of the Empire State Building...and I gotta buy a new frock :-)    I was 175lbs, now down to 165lbs, but ideally would like to be 147lbs.

Steaming veggies is good - I do it all the time, plus it saves on the washing up because you can chuck everything in together, but then I am lazy.......

I buy Cadbury's chocolate highlights, of which you put three teaspoons into a mug of hot water.  Its supposed to be roughly 40 calories per drink.  I make it with less water, so that its thick and gungy - it does the trick for me and makes me feel quite full up

I just make sure I have nothing too fattening in the house - I live on my own so I guess that makes it relatively easy.  I always have a container of diced melon in the fridge - not the most inspiring I know but I sometimes put a low fat low cal yoghurt on top and some cinnamon, that tends to take away the hunger craving.  Otherwise its a case of just drinking lots more.    I have days like you do, horrible isn't it?  In addition I am on medication that makes you feel hungry, which does not help.  Good luck!

alicandra  - yes, comments from family hurt the most.  My Mother (and yes I am Brit too), said "you are so fat and ugly its no wonder you haven't got a man in your life".  But I do have a man in my life, but I don't tell her my business!   Another time I was sitting in the kitchen having a cuppa when a neighbour turned up.  Mother Dearest prodded me in the side and said to the neighbour "just look at my fat daughter, she is twice the size of us".    I am 5'5" and currently at 165lbs, down from 178lbs, dress size 14.  Okay so I do need to lose some more weight, but comments cut to the core!

I have got "over" the plateau stage hopefully, as I have been stuck on the same weight for the past five weeks, but I lost 3lbs last week by changing my exercise routine and drinking lots of water hopefully helped.

Weight Loss JUMP starting metabolism by eating MORE?!! Sep 03 2007

I have been on a "plateau" for about five weeks, and have just shifted 3lbs in five days.  I decided that I needed to alter my exercise regime.  Previously it was pilates and exercise bike at home.  Now I have a long walk every evening, for at least an hour.  I head up to the supermarket and maybe only come home with a lettuce (the shop assistants must think I am crazy!), but that, coupled with drinking lots more water has had the desired effect.

I am not sure about the idea of increasing calories to "jump-start" your metabolism again - after all, there were no fat people in the prisoner of war camps - no offence intended to anyone, but just a statement of fact........

Yes yes yes - I have finally got over my plateau, which I have been stuck on for about five weeks......I was beginning to give up hope, but then reading through some of these threads I figured that if I changed my exercise routine and drank more water, it should start shifting again.   I now walk every evening, usually up to the local supermarket which is a good 30 minutes walk each way (uphill), and sometimes only come home with a lettuce.  The shop assistants will soon think I am crackers!   Anyway, that combined with lots of water and I have lost 3lbs in 5 days, and have been eating pretty much the same.

Tara - the "hot" date is with an old flame who I went out with about 25 years ago.  Cut a long story short, he has tracked me down after all these years (he is now widowed, and so am I), and we have agreed to meet up in three weeks time.  He's now a Col. in USAF, and lives in Manhattan, and has sent me a plane ticket!   But thats not the only incentive, my brother has called me a "lard ass"!

Thought I would leave a message to say that I have "broken" my plateau by changing my exercise routine - I now take a long walk every night rather than do pilates - and I am drinking a lot more water.  Result is that my weight has gone down by 3lbs in the past five days, which I am really pleased with, as my "plateau" had lasted five weeks, and I was ready to throw in the towel.  So it might be an idea to try the same?  I hope it works for you too.

I have changed my exercise routine and rather than do pilates (at home) I make myself take a long walk every evening, and have increased my water intake considerably.  The result is that I am on the downward trend again, and have shifted another 3lbs in the past 4 days - somehow - so I guess that once I hit a plateau again I will go back to my former exercise.   I call it confusing the enemy!

Kthompson - I have got exactly the same - a lovely snotty nose and heavy cold.  I feel like crap.  The girlfriends wanted me to go out clubbing last night but no way could I handle that, even though the exercise would have been great.

mageeg - congrats on breaking your plateau - I am still hovering at 168lbs and have been the same for weeks, but my legs, arms and backside seem to be shaping up nicely.  Strange that!

Gotta get myself into a decent shape within the next three weeks or so as I have a hot date with an old flame from about 30 years ago - a USAF Colonel with a pad in Manhattan and who loves shopping.  Widower now, like me, and this time I wanna nab him!  So thats my main incentive, other than to be just more healthy....

I have been stuck at 168lbs for about five weeks now (started off at 178lbs two months ago, and I am 5'5").   Okay so I have had one or two momentary lapses (veggie lasagne and wine) but otherwise I have stuck to my diet.   I have been exercising about 3/4 times a week at home, and have noticed the difference in my body - my skirts are swivelling around which is nice, but still the scales do not budge.

I keep reading on this website about the body going into starvation mode and retaining the original weight - but that cannot last forever surely?  At some stage I guess the body just has to give way.  I am going to drink more water (yuck) and try different exercises.  Its nice to know that I am not the only one!

I have just picked up on this thread and am in exactly the same situation - infuriating!  I have been the same weight for about four weeks now, and having read the messages above it has given me hope as I have been "waivering" to say the least.   I started out at 178lbs, and am now 168lbs (I am 5'5") and ideally I would like to get down to 140lbs - I was there once upon a time, but it was a long time ago - like 25 years I think!   However, my body is looking better through exercise, and I am losing the inches, and clothes are baggy, and skirts are just swivelling around, so I must be doing something right........

I was 168lbs last Friday - but owing to a Bank Holiday weekend (veggie lasagne, wine, plum crumble etc etc) I suspect I am still the same.  I am going to increase my water intake in the hope that that helps, and try and get some more exercise this week.  I seem to have been on this plateau for an age.   If its any consolation I am a size 14 too.  Yes the inches are coming off via exercise, but I want to see the scales alter.

I am on anti depressants and reading through the Patient Information Leaflet they can cause weight gain, but exactly how I do not know).  What a pain........

I too cannot handle greasy food - just the look and smell brings on the shudders.  I cannot remember the last time I had a bag of chips.   Also I have gone right off chocolate whereas I could easily stuff a couple of bars no problem.   I have a craving at the moment for green salad with rocket..........

Oh yes, I have been called "lard arse" :-(  I am dress size 14 by the way!
