You might want to speak to your doctor about your periods; they would be the best source for answering your question. You may also try a nurse practioner as well. However, I would recommend that you speak to a nutritionist too. Eating less than a 1000 calories a day is not good for your body. It is recommended that women eat a minimum of 1200 calories a day. While too many calories can cause us to gain weight not enough calories and our bodies cannot perform the basic functions of living. I imagine it is especially important if you are recovering from child birth and/or if you are breast feeding. I am not a doctor but I would strongly urge you to consult a nutritionist. |

| Weight Loss | This is what you get for not telling people you're eating better | Aug 19 2007 18:27 (UTC) |

I think general potluck party advice is doing ones homework ahead of time. Find out what people are planning to bring and get an idea what kind of calories one is looking at. Also, try going through once (instead of the usual grazing that makes potlucks fun and frustrating) and take a smaller plate--the plate looks full but it isn't as much food and you will be able to eat a plate and notice you are full. If you are able to, bring your own dish that is lighter. I know in your case it was supposed to be a surprise so maybe just research general Mexican dishes. You might even be able to make some sort of taco salad depending on the spread. My other piece of advice would be to have a healthy but filling breakfast so that you aren't as full later. This doesn't work for me sadly--I eat regardless of how full I am--sort of the polar opposite of someone who suffers from anorexia. I hope this was helpful. I had a bad experience with a party I went to a couple of weeks ago--they had someone cooking who just brought out plates of food as he made them--the food was amazing but there would only be enough for each person to get one piece or so before the platter was empty so it was really hard to gauge how much I had.

Excellent Name! (I am a Sarah with an "h" too!)
I have been looking through the forums and there seemed like a lot of women who were at 140 trying to lose 10-20 pounds and I thought maybe I was in the wrong place. I was 226 when I started and I am only 5'4" I gained 4 pounds the first week--I am not sure why but happily I have lost that and another 7. My goal is 130 but if I make it to 150 I will be very happy. I know I still will be a size 14 when I weigh 150 but I don't mind having curves. I just really want to be healthy. My biggest motivator is that I am in my mid 20s and have off the charts high cholesterol. |
