I had scale issues on Sunday and Monday, so I'm not sure what I weighed on those days. 137 was my weight this morning (Tuesday). That's a loss of 15.5 pounds during the challenge. Luvtraveling - thank you for running the challenge. It definately helped me stay on track throughout the summer. Our next challenge is to keep it up throughout the fall and Holiday (17 weeks until New Years!) seasons! Good luck everyone! Smiles, Dacia |

On Monday, I was up 2 pounds from last week, darn it. My goal is to get back down to 137 on Monday, September 1. Thank you MSPW for the compliment last week...didn't do so well with this weigh in. Oh yea, I'll be posting late this Monday (Sept.1) too. I'll be able to weigh, but won't be near a computer to post. Good Luck to Everyone! Finish the challenge strong! Smiles, Dacia |

HOORAY! Only two more weigh-ins! I don't think it is realistic to think that I'll get to 130 pounds, but that is okay. I've had quite a bit of success in this challenge and cannot complain. BTW: I will be gone (no access to a computer or internet service) on Monday, September 1, so I won't be able to post my final weight until the 3rd (perhaps late on the 2nd, but I'm not promising anything). I'll have access to the scale, but not the computer so my weight that I post late will be my weight on Monday. Sorry for the inconvenience. I am hoping to end the challenge at 135 pounds, and at the least not be above today's weight of 137 (a new challenge low for me!) Good Luck Everyone! Smiles, Dacia

Although TTOM isn't here for almost a week, I'm definately having cravings and general lethargy. My goal is to fight both this week and hopefully I won't go up next week. I know I will get back on the downward slide with dedication, determination and discipline. CONGRATULATIONS ase_t!!! I'm very proud of you. You can drop those 4 pounds...stay focused. Smiles, Dacia |

Horray. Last week was a tough week for me as I had the munchies all week long, but I preservered and chose to snack on carrots, cucumber, celery, and various other veggies (all without dressing) to curb my hunger. I did well on my exercise which certainly helped! On another exciting note, I went to my Doc and she was VERY proud of my weight loss progress. And, I grew 1.25 inches in the past year too! Could be that my posture has improved since dropping 60 pounds, could be that I added yoga and pilates at the first of the year in addition to my cardio and strength training (I've heard yoga and pilates helps to stretch and elongate the muscles) or it could be a genetic flaw (my Mom grew 1 inch between her 25th and 26th year, perhaps I was the late bloomer to grow between the age of 30 and 31). Who knows? Either way, I'm happy to take the extra height. And, since I grew my BMI is now healthy! HOORAY! I still want to loose up to 15 more pounds, but I am venturing into new territory so I'll be re-evaluating that goal every five pounds that I loose. We'll see how I look and how I feel. I'm not going to shoot for a weight of 125 pounds just to see 125 on the scale. Well, back to another week of dedication, determination and discipline to attain my goal (hopefully before Thanksgiving). Smiles, Dacia |

I am working to improve my exercise and water intake as I didn't do well over the weekend. In fact, I was down to 140.5 yesterday morning, but had a slight gain today that I am attributing to lack of exercise and water consumption (love2hatetreadmills - I can relate to you today!). Hey, at least I lost weight so I'd best not complain and instead work to improve on my short comings. On a positive, I have been on CC for just over a year now and have reduced my BMI from extremely obese to slightly overweight (2 more pounds and I'll have a normal - albeight on the high side of normal BMI). In addition, as of today since I started loosing weight I have lost 58 pounds and 29% of my body weight. Since joining CC I have lost 53 pounds and 27% of my body weight. As one can see, I have been very successful with CC. WOW! I am really proud. Perhaps next week, I'll drop down to 140 and have a normal BMI, then only 10 pounds to go to goal! CONGRATULATIONS Betharoo2u for exceeding your goal. I am VERY excited for you! Happy Belated Birthday MSPW! Safina1 - it's okay, get back on the wagon today...don't beat yourself up for your binge. It's over and done with and nothing you can do about it now. Stay positive! Smiles, Dacia |

| Weight Loss | question for the ladies...hope you can help | Jul 18 2008 22:17 (UTC) |

I would say, on average I can gain up to about five pounds due to my cycle (the same occurs when I get sick, drink alcohol, et cetera and heaven help me when I've done all three within a week or so of each other). This varies based upon alcohol consumption, salt intake, water consumption, exercise, et cetera (during your entire cycle not just the few days or a week before your cycle begins again). Typically, my weight tends to even out by day 4 or 5 of my cycle. If it were me, I would weigh myself as scheduled and make a note on my log of whatever day of your cycle you are on. In my experience, I have had fluid retention differences of morning to night as much as 7.5 pounds, but typically my fluid difference on most days is 3 pounds. It is during TTOM that I have bigger differences. I purchased a scale that measures body fat and hydration which helped me better measure where the extra weight gain is coming from (when you are retaining water, your body fat will drop). The following is my honest opinion, based upon my own experiences and I do not mean to offend. It is unrealistic to say that your weight gain is from birth control, unless it is an amount of ten pounds or less (roughly). If you measured yourself prior to starting on birth control, you would probably notice the changes in your chest/breast measurement. I have been on some form of birth control or another (Pill - and various ones at that, Depo Provera & Nuva Ring) for 16 years. Honestly, I was one of those people that blamed my weight gain (65 pounds over 16 years) on birth control and swore it would be difficult to loose the weight. The fact of the matter is, my weight gain was a result of my lifestyle and food choices - sedentary, no portion control, high sugar and fatty foods. Also, loosing weight is difficult because it requires you to face the issues that have caused you to gain weight - stress and emotional issues, unresolved childhood issues, lack of physical exercise, lack of portion control, basic apathy towards yourself, et cetera. I began my 'journey towards health' one year ago, remained on birth control and have lost 57 pounds to date. If it were true that being on birth control makes loosing weight more difficult, then I probably wouldn't have had the success that I have had during the past year (I 'officially' began my weight loss on July 2, 2007 and joined CC on July 19, 2007 so I could better keep track of calories and nutrition information). The one thing that will make you the most successful in your weight loss is pure determination. Set your mind to loosing weight, know that it will not come easy and there will be days, weeks and even months were you don't see anything happening. I would highly recommend that you begin taking your body measurements at least once a month. I went through five months straight (which began exactly six months after my weight loss began) where despite all my best efforts, doing the same things I had been doing and even switching up my exercise and zig-zagging my calories where I didn't loose any more than two pounds a month and was very frusterated; however, I continued to measure myself during this time and discovered that my body was redistributing my weight (the breast tissue that I had lost miraculously returned and instead I lost inches in other places). Also, if you make bad choices let it be for the meal that you just consumed (or messed up on), not for the whole day. If I ate poorly for one meal, I committed to eating better the next meal and made sure I had a positive attitude anyway (do not get down on yourself for the poor choice you just made, you cannot take that choice back...instead tell yourself the next meal WILL be better and make sure of it). Each month I focused on doing one thing correctly: increasing water consumption, increasing fiber intake, increasing my exercise, increasing my consumption of vegetables and fruits, decreasing my consumption of alcohol, et cetera. Then I continued to build upon each thing (I'm not sure if that is clear). In other wordes, when I 'graduated' from working on increasing my water consumption to increasing my fiber intake, I still continued to drink my water at the same level that I just graduated from). Also, since my goal is to loose 77 pounds (57 down, 20 to go) I broke my goal down into smaller incriments and rewarded myself for my good work. My rewards were not related to food related and oftentimes free like asking for a massage from my boyfriend, painting my nails, taking an extra long shower to pamper myself, et cetera. Well, I got off topic there, but hope I was a helpful. Take care of yourself and PM me if you need anything else. Smiles, Dacia P.S. I hope I did not offend you - it is not my intention. |

I was very thankful to see 145 on the scale today - the bloat from TTOM and my weekend drinking finally came off. My goal is to not drink until after this challenge is over. By then, if I can make it seven weeks then I ought to be able to make it until after the New Year. Now, I am looking forward to next weeks weigh-in. I'm hoping to see 143 and aim to achieve this through healthy eating and lots of exercise. I know I can achieve it! Great job everyone! Smiles, Dacia |

Brianneo - I definately remember you from the brides forum. No, we haven't got married yet. My weight loss is taking precidence. Besides, we both know what we want for our wedding and it should only take six to twelve weeks to put together (small intimate wedding at our home and unless I change my mind I already have my dress...just need to fit into it). Cassrd05 - It looks like you already have your profile set up. This is done through the community / people tabs and you would edit the page (beneath your picture) to customize your profile. To add buddies click on the picture of the person you want to add - this will bring you to their profile page. Directly across (to the left) of the persons screen name click on the add buddy link. Typically, this would make me cry (okay sob) but I'm not because TTOM is here and I am retaining water and am having difficulty going to the loo (sorry too much information). *SIGH* Such is life. Within the next few weeks all of this will even out and I'll be back down in the 140 range. To assure this happens I am staying hydrated (how can you not in the heat?), eating lots of veggies (today is the first day of our fruit and veggie challenge at work and I vow to WIN!), and continuing my workouts. Who knows? Maybe I'll have a week where I loose 5 pounds? MSPW - I love Namaste Yoga. I try and participate as often as I can and will start to think of you when I do participate. I haven't done any of Sharon Mann's workouts yet, but I have caught the beginning or end of her episode and her workouts look great! Wendywoo - CONGRATULATIONS on your loss! Fantastic job! Safina1 - Good job eating healthy last week! Keep up the good work. Remember, one day at a time. Smiles to everyone! Dacia |

| I would like to encourage you. You can loose the weight. Yes, it will be hard! Probably one of the hardest things you have EVER done in your life, but in the end it will be very rewarding.
In July of 2007, I weighed 202 pounds at my GYN's office and was shocked that my weight got up that high. I am 5'3.5" and a medium to large frame. We wanted to start trying for our first, but she (my gyn) recommended that we wait until I lost at least 50 pounds. I was disappointed to hear the news, but I wasn't shocked. I knew I could do it, but thought it would take so long that I'd never get my baby (I'm 31). Well, in the past year I worked very hard, gave up many bad habits and learned many new, good habits. Today, I am down to 146 pounds (goal of 130) and we are hoping to begin trying around the first of the year (give or take three months). A few recommendations I have: exercise daily (at least 5 days a week for at least 30 minutes a day); if you "fall off the wagon" fall off for only a meal and get right back on (don't use the excuse "Well I've already totally messed up today so now I am going to eat whatever I want for the rest of today and start fresh tomorrow" because tomorrow will never come; instead, tell yourself "Well, I made a bad choice for that meal but my next meal will be healthy"); don't beat yourself up for your weight now...it isn't about how you got to be the weight you are now (believe me during your weight loss you will have to conquer this demon...wait for it to come to you) it is about getting healthy and making healthy decisions for yourself and your family; finally, break up your weight loss into smaller goals and give yourself small rewards (I rewarded myself every time I lost ten pounds and I don't have a lot of money either so my rewards were stuff like asking for a back rub from my DH, taking an extra long shower to pamper myself, painting my nails, et cetera). You are modeling appropriate eating habits for your children and you will succeed at loosing your weight. Give yourself time, and remember the slower that it comes off the easier it will be to keep it off. It isn't a race to see who can get to the finish line the fastest - it is a race of endurance to see who can run the race and last the longest! Take care of yourself! Smiles, Dacia |

I am in a similiar position. In July of 2007, I went to my gyn and told her that we were planning on starting a family in the next year and she told me that my pregnancy would go smoother and I would (probably) have fewer complications if I lost 50 pounds! That was not the best news I've ever heard, but it is what it took me to begin to develop a healthier lifestyle and loose weight. Last July I weighed 202 pounds in her office (I am 5'3.5" medium/large framed). So, I set my goal to loose 70 pounds before we started trying. Today, I am 146 and we are hoping to start trying around the first of the year. I am SOOO excited for my gyn appointment later this month...she'll probably be very proud of me. Anyway, enough about me. I really don't think there is a problem with you loosing 5 to 10 pounds before you get pregnant. The advice you received from a few here is spot on - you are NOT eating for two, don't use the "I lost ten pounds before I got pregnant" excuse to gain an extra ten pounds during your pregnancy, et cetera. Besides, it is best to develop your healthy eating habits now before you get pregnant rather then after you deliver while you are exhausted and learning about your new baby and Motherhood. Best of Luck! Smiles, Dacia |

Wouldn't you know it? I drink on Friday night and by Sunday morning I gained three pounds from where I was on Friday morning! Direct reinforcement for bad behavior! Hopefully, I'll get all this excess crap out of my body by next Monday (I'm going to have to be VERY disciplined over the 4th of July weekend). Honestly, I am thankful that I only gained three pounds from drinking...I used to gain an average of 5 pounds just by drinking! MSPW - don't count your weight loss out since going on the pill. I've been on the pill off an on for the majority of 16 years and blamed my weight gain on the pill (it couldn't be MY fault that I was physically inactive AND ate too much...it had to be birth control's fault). Well, I've lost ALL of my weight (53.5 pounds as of today) while being on the birth control (the pill and now Nuva Ring) over the past year. It really is all about calories in and calories out...even on the pill. Good luck, you can do it! Smiles, Dacia |

SW: 200 (07.02.07) CW: 152.50 (5.26.08) CW: 153.50 (6.2.08) GW: 134 Up ONE Pound, darn it. Oh well. Actually, it really isn't that bad considering my birthday was last week and I celebrated. I have one more birthday dinner that has yet to be scheduled and my sister's graduation from the University of Oregon on June 14 - these two events are my challenges for the month of June. Interestingly, I could have predicted this gain based on my cycle - I always gain 1.5 to 2 pounds from day 14 to day 15 (yes, I do track my weight according to my cycle and find it very helpful). I'll drop a little over the next two weeks (maybe two pounds); however, during these next two weeks, my scale will reflect my losses in the form of body fat reduction rather than weight. Either way, I'm fine with it because while the scale says I weigh more, it equates to more muscle than fat which means my size 10's are just that much more comfortable. And really, one pound I'm not going to complain after all I've lost almost 50 pounds in almost a year (on 7.02.08 I will have been on this journey for a year, so my anniversary is coming up!). I haven't had the opportunity to read all of the posts and hope to catch up throughout the week, but I must say mspw and coach_k both have some very good advice. I appreciate reading both of your posts and look forward to catching up on the rest! Have a great day! Smiles, Dacia |

With my upcoming birthday, this past weekend was a challenge and this week is proving to be no different...but I will overcome the temptations and succeed (and at the very least, not gain!). My ultimate goal weight is 134; however, I'm up for a big reward when my BMI is no longer over 25 (144 pounds), which will happen somtime between now and Labor Day. My three biggest reasons to loose weight: 1. To be Healthy and a Healthy Role Model for myself and Family 2. My Wedding Day (date TBD, perhaps before Labor Day) 3. To get Pregnant and have a Healthy Baby (once the I Do's are done, its off to try and start a family). Smiles, Dacia |

Awww, I drank alcohol on Friday night, but I haven't done it since; however, this is not reassuring to me because my weight immediately jumped up on Saturday morning. Just today, I'm back down to the 165.50 where I started last week; one night of fun resulted in six days of ______(you fill in the blank)! Not worth it! This is further confirmation to me that alcohol is just as evil as Christmas Cookies! I'm back on the wagon and am certain I can resist alcohol on Christmas! I want to get into the low 160's by any healthy means possible! Lesson learned. Artistsusan ~ I am the same as you - I am smelling everything and eating none of it! It works and it gives me my fix too. People look at me weird too! I hope the scale drops for you this week. Grandma Sue ~ Let us know the score tomorrow. You can do it! Smiles, Dacia |

Hello Everyone ~ My BMI is down to 29.3 today! HOORAY! I am so excited, and this is even after a Christmas Party last night. I have another one tomorrow, so I'm not out of the woods yet. I still haven't had any alcohol, and I think my weight is reflective. I'm excited to be so close to a BMI in the 28's. I hope everyone else is well. Smiles, Dacia |

Nov. 9: 173.50 Nov. 17: 173.0 Nov. 21: 169 Nov. 23 168.50 Nov. 30 169.50 Dec. 7 170.50 Dec. 12 167.0 Dec. 14 165.50 WOW! I didn't expect to loose any more weight this week, then I already lost so I am just thrilled. 5 pounds in one week! How did that happen? I'm doing everything the same as I have been, must be my body breaking through the plateau. Now, I really don't have to loose much more by the end of the month to make it to the low 160's. Perhaps, I'll even see 159 by the end of the month. That would be great. Really though, I am very pleased because I had a Christmas Party last night and I have another one tomorrow night...one down, and one to go. The only way to get through is to plan, plan, plan! Oh yea, did I tell you guys? I cannot remember. I think I did. I gave up all alcohol (made it through the party last night just fine)!!! HOORAY! I haven't had anything since Thanksgiving day, and I think not drinking alcohol can definately be attributed to my increased weight loss. TTOM was supposed to come by today, but again it is MIA (today is day 64 of this cycle!). I think it is the stress that I have been under at work. If nothing happens by the end of next week, then I'll be a little more concerned, but I'm just going to ride it out now (Plus, I always have a bit of a weight jump / stall when it's here, so I'm okay staying at 165.5 for a few more days). Grandma Sue ~ You go Girl! You will win the Christmas Cookies Challenge. You are so good at planning things in advance, so I know that today is going to be successful for you because you are going to make it so. Plus, you are going to be under 200 by the wedding. HOORAY! Have fun at your Grandson's Second Birthday Party - that will be a blast! Artistsusan ~ How are you doing? I miss hearing from you. Well, I best get back to my project. Smiles, Dacia |

Hello Everyone ~ My BMI is at 29.6, so in the past few weeks it has dropped .3 and is staying under 30! HOORAY! The mere fact that it is dropping during the Holidays, even the slightest bit is definately an encouragement to me. I cannot remember who, but someone asked how to maintain motivation. My motivation is seeing myself in the mirror. I really like what I see; however, on the days that the scale increases by a pound or two, you cannot let that affect your interpretation of the picture. I just recently became comfortable wearing my size 12's outside of the house, which is also encouraging. Even when I wear my size 14's though, I'm still encouraged because of all the extra room they provide. Last week, the scale was playing tricks on me and keeping my motivation up to exercise was difficult, so I cut myself slack and decided it was okay to skip my bike workouts for the week. Instead, I bought myself a yoga and pilates DVD and did that. It was great fun and now my motivation to get back on the bike has returned. So, if you are having difficulties look at everything that you have achieved and switch up your workouts. Hope this helps. I am under a lot of stress at work right now and the Holiday's themselves are stressfull so I am maintaining my journey by keeping my water handy and brining extra fruit to work with me. Also, because I learned the effect alcohol has on my body, I have given it up. I think doomie did this too and it was motivating to me. I had two glasses of wine on Thanksgiving and haven't drank sense. In the last week, I've lost five pounds. So, I'm going to continue this trend; although all bets are off on New Year's Eve & New Year's Day - I'm giving up drinking on Christmas Eve and Day to enjoy the New Year with Scott with a bottle of our favorite wine. Even that though will be less alcohol then I've drank in the past, so I'll still improve. Then, back on the alcohol free wagon. Take Care Everyone! Smiles, Dacia |

My weight was up last Friday, but it is back down today. I like today's number much better. I'll try and check in on Friday, but my project that has me stressed is due to be complete by 8 am on Monday, December 17 so I might not check in until after I have it complete. Heaven only knows what all this stress is doing to my cycle. GRRR. This week is when TOM should visit, but I've had no sign of him yet. Darn it, but I suppose I'll see him first thing Tuesday morning. And then my weight will do its typical flucuation next week. Oh well, nothing I can do about it anyway. Oh yea, I'm hoping to end the month in the low 160's - somewhere, anywhere, even if it is 164.50! Anything below that will be a major bonus. Grandma Sue ~ I am so glad that you got to go see your daughter. Sounds like you had a great time planned, and we'll found out more on Friday. It's nice to go out of town and be with someone that you don't have to worry about the food around. It's nice not have the pressure. Artistsusan ~ 7 pounds is a great goal, you can do it! Well, I better get back to my project! Smiles, Dacia |

But, I am thrilled that I weighed 167.5 yesterday. WOO HOO! Down to 167 today, so hopefully there will be a bit more of a drop next week. Perhaps, I'll be in the low 160's by Christmas. That would be a real treat; however, even if I stay at 167 I'll be fine with that too - I've made such great progress in my journey this year. I am so proud! Plus, (thankfully) I don't have to set a New Year's Resolution to start my journey...I just have to continue. HOORAY! Great work everyone! I am impressed with our progress these past ten weeks. Excellent job! Smiles, Dacia |

12 Weeks: 176 (10.2.07) 3 Weeks: 172.5 (12.4.07) Normally, I would not be too happy about a 2 pound gain; however, my body fat percentage dropped 1% in the last week (my biggest one week drop), so I have at least (and probably more) two more pounds of muscle. HORRAY! My metabolism should be working faster too. Plus, I dropped another clothing size, so the "weight" number on the scale is getting bigger but I am getting smaller. I'll take these results any day over a smaller number on the scale. As a result, my goal of 155 won't be attained by Christmas, but I already have succeeded! Looks like the weight resistance is making a big difference. Smiles, Dacia |

Nov. 9: 173.50 Nov. 17: 173.0 Nov. 21: 169 Nov. 23 168.50 Nov. 30 169.50 Up one pound from last week, darn it; however, my body fat dropped 1.5% the month of November despite only loosing 1.5 pounds. I'll take the lessor weight loss and the lessor body fat percentage gratefully any day. This past week, I made reducing my alcohol consumption a goal and I am pleased to report that today is my eighth day of not drinking any alcohol. Now to increase my exercise and drop those pounds. Grandma Sue ~ Yeah! You made it out of the plateau! Hope you are starting to feel better. Looking forward to you dropping below 200...that will be an exciting day. You can do it! Artistsusan ~ Great job for attaining your 7 pound goal this month! That is very exciting! Congratulations. *Doing the Happy Weight Loss Dance for you too* I have been staying in contact with Crothwell. She is very busy with school (this term ends December 14th for her) and is in the thick of final projects and papers. Dead week is next week and the following week is finals week. In addition, many of her application deadlines for Graduate School is tomorrow. She is remaining faithful to the journey by eating right and exercising but it is a struggle with everything she has going on. I just wanted to give you an update on our "absent but present" bride. Take care everyone! Have a great weekend. Smiles, Dacia |
