| Health & Support | Panic Attacks (mental health issue) | Nov 24 2008 21:32 (UTC) |

I had my first panic attack when I was driving late at night back to San Diego from Los Angeles. Thought that I was going to Die. Literally, my heart was pounding a million beats a minute and I went all cold. I was in the fast lane and had to quickly merge to the right side almost getting hit 2 times. Good thing I put the hazards on. From then on it's been a roller coaster. I have not had one as sever as the first, but there have been ones that come close and can last about an hour. Most of the attacks start out small then I think that I am going to die becuase I think my heart is bad. I never went to the Dr because I was scared that they would say that I had a F**ed up heart etc. To calm myseld down I would just walk in slowly in circles then look up heeart attack and panic attach symptoms and upper shoulder pain online. The laster part of looking things up seemed to help. Also playin a queit computer game helped me a lot until I felt safe enough to lie down and go to sleep. I just went to the Dr this weekend. She told me that I am perfectly healthy and that actually my heart rate is better since it's lower. Said it could be due to the recent running. She also gave me a a safety blanket of Xanax just in case my methods do not work. I feel your pain and understand the dread your living with. A lot of what I feared is that I would have another one like my first and I would die. I think every person is different. Do what your doing to make yourself feel better. Try relaxing to music, or playing a quiet game on the computer or even mediate. Soon you will find what will work for you. If you need prescription drugs and feel that it will help you, take them. Regardless of what anyone else tells you, you are the only one that truly know what you are feeling and what is best to calm down from this. I am not sure if you take about 20 - 30 minutes of "just me time" to relax. This may help. Good luck and let us know your progress.

green tea, black tea, fruit teas. sweeten and unsweeten. No coffee. Don't like the bitter after taste. I drink at least 4 cups of green tea a day. I make it in the coffee maker for fast tea instead of using the stove. Also I mix my teas to make yummy ice teas to drink instead of Pop. I just add splenda packets. I don't like my drinks overly sweet so maybe 5-6 packets for the jug works out okay.

fresh donut from the fryer, dipped, dunked, sprinkled and rizledw ith everything you can image for toppings. Then dipped, dunked, sprinkled with this and that and drizzled again. Coat with batter and deep fry for 2 minutes. Top off with mile high layer of whip from the can and drizzle with chocolate and carmel sauce, add a cherry nuts and cut up pieces of donut holes. Sorry just had post something so ridiculous you would never crave a donut again |

CONGRATS. I am sure you feel so much healthier. Running has helped me build up my lungs. I don't know what to classify myself as. I used to smoke a lot, then a little, then a lot then not so much. My last bought pack was in Sept and even then I didn't even smoke them really. Would take 2 puffs and ash it. last time I smoked was with friends at a bar but I didn't buy and only had 1 1/2. So now I don't smoke at all because I don't buy them. It was a waste of money when I didn't smoke the whole cig. I will smoke if I go out for drinks but that is a REALLY RARE occasion and I'd have to bum one I guess I am an "rare occasion" smoker/non smoker.I sometimes crave it (especially when in traffic) and get the inkling to buy a pack but then I'd be stuck with a pack that I would have to hide in my car from the BF and have to have all these sneaky ways about smoking etc. Seems better to just not buy a pack and chew a piece of gum.

I've only seen the program but have not tried it. When I first started back up, I ran 1/8 mile increments with 1/4 mile walking. Now I am running 3/8 mile increments with 1/4 mile walking. I was going to shoot for 1/2 mile increments with 1/4 mile walking for tomorrow but that will be on sat. I run at 5 mps at 1.5 incline. I am not sure if 5 mph is fast or not but it's a good pace for me. 4.5 and under is too slow for me. my goal is to get to 2-3 miles straight at 1.5 incline and at 5.5-6 mph before increasing my incline to 2.5 - 3 and starting over again to build up. I use the treadmill during the week. I am planning to start back up on track near my house for the weekends (the track is awesome, 2 tracks connected to one another. a large one, 1 .3 miles with a 1/2 mile track connection) I used to run here all the time before I moved away to san diego. Now I am happy that I am back in that neighborhood to ulitize it. I'm sending out positive vibes to everyone that has motivated themselves to get off thier bums and get moving. For emilyd22222 you won't burn out, it gets to be fun after awhile. no mater how much it hurts in your legs after awhile, withstand as much as possible. What I have viewed from the program, it seems pretty good. My plan is a bit similar, just longer stints in running.if you need a buddy, I am here. and if anyone else needs a buddy, i'd love to add to my list. HAPPY RUNNING EVERYONE!!!

would love to be a buddy of yours. I read the couch to 5K program and what I am doing is quite similar but just longer running sprints abd walks. I used to run a lot in highschool and about 5 years ago and woud like to get back to that. Thanks for replying. I am annoyed that in 5 weeks I have only lost 4 lbs and fluctuate between 2lbs. Kinda sucky but i see a difference in my clothes and toning up in my arms legs and butt. Look forward to seeing how our running goes

I juicemy own juice (apple and carrot) in the morning just 8 oz and half half a penut butter and jelly sandwhich. The sugar in the apples and carrots is a great energy boost in the morning and I like PB&J so it works |

i was in the same boat as you. You need to up your calories and also take 1-2 days off of workouts. I was stuck for 2 weeks, found out that I was in starvation mode. Starvation mode doesn't do anything for you. You are just surviving off of 600-800 calories a day. Eating more helps and you will most likely see the numbers drop. I see toning but have not weighed myself at the gym yet so I am not sure. I feel like I have lost though and my jeans are looser than 2 weeks. ago. try taking a easy week. I am taking one this week. only wokring out 3 days instead of 6 and I feel much better. Good luck. |

| Foods | What candy will you be stealing from your kids bags tonight? | Oct 31 2008 15:15 (UTC) |

same boat as you. My boyfriend loves chocolate. We have bought several bags already to give out, but out of 8 bags, only 3 remain in the house. How sad. I eat chocolate in the weirdest way so I don't really eat them. I'd rather have cupcakes. YUM. I was also deeply disappointed the my fave bar was different than I remember (butterfingers crisps) and was much harder to eat in layers ( i like to savor every bite of any candy or chocolate and eat things in layers) so I haven't eaten another piece. There was candy at my ceramic studio and I took a couple of runts packets but I suppose I am going to forget that I have them and then not want one. I wish bakeries would make packaged cupcakes in the future so when I have kids, I can steal those from them. hahahaha |

I have a lot of muscle on me already. I used to be an athlete in high school and have developed a lot of leg muscle and arm muscle. My right arm is stronger from when I was an archer 8- 14. Pilates is to tone my muscles making them lean. right now they are very tight and stocky especially my calves. I have upped my intake to 1850. Today I had a well deserved larger but very balanced meal of clam chowder with tobasco, salad with and red snapper. It was so good and kept me full till dinner. After that I still had 700 cals reserved for dinner. Since I am back on adjustment week, I had 3/4 cup of rice with tofu and chicken. Oh by the way, I still do some light weight training and upping it to 3 times a week next week. I do like pilates though, all my muscles are in use and it's much more peaceful to me. |

SW: 203 height: 5'1 burn about 700 - 800 calories a day Average heart rate during workouts: 154, highest 161 (i know once you get into better shape the # goes lower, when I started i quickly went up to 171 and averaged around 165. Has lowered these past few weeks and I am wokring out even harder than when I started) I don't know what else. I don't eat past 9 pm. I do snack on some healthier snack foods from trader joes. I have has cupcakes and other sweets the past two weeks but not to the point where is was over my calories. I don't drink. I stopped smoking but bought a pack for some reason today and smoked a quarter of the cig before I put it out. Just wanted the taste, didn't inhale. I am trying to cut white rice out of my dinner soon. It's too hard. I love rice. Drink that wu yi tea but no results this time. First time around I lost 10lbs in 1 week. this time around I drink it everyday and NOTHING. Gained weight after having and losing baby. Said enough is enough and want to get back to my Jr weight of 120. So not think I ever can get to 105 even though I will always try for it. Being impatient and want sooner results. I know it takes time.

do you work out? If you work out then you should be fine. I started to also look at the fat % etc and sodium is also important. But if your in reason of those and work out then your burned calories from your workout compensate for the those extra 200 cals. Once in awhile it's okay to go over. If you zig zag then your fine. hope that helps. I am still figuring all this out myself. so far so good. my period is coming this week so I have gained which sucks so I don't know how much i actually lost. boo

I just started hitting the gym again these past few weeks. Tomorrow will be the start of my third week. Wen, cardio was the same but I did 15-20 minutes each of pilates and upper weight lifting. Rest on Sat and Sun Tomorrow i will be upping my jogging and resistance on the elliptical. I will also be really focusing this week with my pilates time. Making every move really count. Sat, I will start taking a group pilates class and then do light cardio and sunday being my only day off of working out.

| Weight Loss | Do you limit carbs at dinner? | Oct 24 2008 00:05 (UTC) |

It's so hard too. I am asian and grew up eating rice with EVERY meal. I didn't eat cereal when I was little it was either Jook (rice with chicken broth and hardboiled egg) or rice with milk or soy milk and honey or sugar. I love rice so much especiallu white rice. I know it's not the best, but brown rice taste like dirt. Not a big fan so now I mix the two 3/4 brown and 1/4 white. I have the large rice cooker, it's just a must in an asian household. I just don't make the 10 -12 cups it can hold. I eat rice only for dinner and measure it out to 1/2. 1 cup is acutally a lot. They ususally serve you just over 1/2 a cup at the resturants. I just try to stick to that. Sometimes I will steal few bites from my boyfriends plate but not much. I wish rice was better for you. It takes so good with the right sauce. oh boo.

think you are right. I think it's okay to have some really bad cheat days. The good thing is that you are aware of it and reaching out to others about it. I would take the next few days easy and try to not eat everything in sight. I know it's hard because the weekend is almost here. I hate depriving myself of things that are yummy so I treat myself to a very small portion of something yummy often. Think its the only way to stay sane but I am really watching what I eat now and going to the gym everyday. If you can make it to the gym a couple of times a week for at least 1/2 hour then you should be fine. Good luck |

i too am a stress eater, emotional eater, just love to eat good, bad, all foods really that appeal to my taste buds. I fell off the wagon for about 2 months eating anything and everything I wanted somewhat paying attention but not working out like I should. I would justify that I was too tired, or too stressed out and needed to relax infront of the tv. I never was really a couch potato until I started dating my boyfriend. We are now trying to limit our tv watching. thank gosh we do not have cable and get only 3 channels on a goodday. Don't be so hard on yourself. It's easier said than done and a lot of people who struggle go through this. The weight will come off not overnight though. i started yoga tapes and they seem to help a lot with stress levels. If that doesn't work, just be happy to alive, stop and take a breath and look around. Be happy with who you are and you'll get to your goal |

Wow i agree with everyone that it's kinda basic and boring. I would be bored to tears. I stick to some basics during the week. Breakfast and snacks usually the same. Either yogurt or granola cereal for breakfast and a variety of fruits for snacks. Lunches vary as I go out for lunch sometimes and save half for later in the week or I indulge in a huge salad. Dinner varies but I make sure to eat my greens. I love salad so no problem there. weekends I'm not as strict. I still watch what I eat but if a piece of chocolate cake comes my way, I don't deny myself. I just run jog an extra half mile the next day. I would suggest taking the advice of the fellow cal watchers and look for some interesting recipes. Nowadays you can just buy soups or other meals that are low cal. Maybe just throwing a few of those into your cart the next time you shop may bring you out of boredom |
