Do not do it. When I was younger (and stupider) I did a very very low carb diet. It was absolutely terrible for me.

It is just a way for people to make money by selling complex plans and phases. IT IS TERRIBLE FOR YOUR HEALTH.

Count calories and eat a balanced diet.

What do you mean, "find it really hard to put on the weight"?

Have you always been this weight, or did you lose?

Do you restrict food, or skip meals?

How many cals do you eat?

Are you ill in another way?

I don't really understand...

Do you get fevers when these symptoms come? You said you get sores on your body, or is it a rash? If you get fevers then maybe it is "adult still disease"

It could be "raynaud phenomon", the symptoms fit really well especially the sores on your fingers.

What about "scleroderma"?

I hope your doctors have tested you for these already. But you said they aren't very good so maybe not.

If all else fails...move to Canada!

Your weight can vary A LOT based on time of day, what you ate that day/recently and the time of month. By  a lot I mean like 8 pounds for me.

So, you need to weigh at the same time everytime (in the morning before breakfast, not when your hair is wet). And do it regularly.

ONLY then can you take the numbers seriously at all.

Hi,

I'm a college student (21). I went from 147 to 117, but then I stopped counting for a long time (about a year!!). Now I am back up to about 131. Not as bad as before. I am hoping to lose 11 pounds and get to 120. Then I will focus on the last 5 and get to 115. I'm 5 foot 1.

For me the best way to lose is to have the rule that I ALWAYS log EVERY calorie. It doesn't even take that much time.

Good luck to you guys!

Hey! I got down to about my goal weight (117) then stopped counting.

Six months later I am up to 125 and gotta count again lol. So yea...I didn't count for a long time and didn't gain that much weight. Buuut, now I have to get back on the counting wagon.

Weight Loss What do you tell a friend...... Jun 30 2008

Maybe let her know that if "dieting doesn't work" (which we all know is baloney) then the surgery won't work either! All the surgery does is stops you from being able to eat as much, something that your will power does for you when you diet.

Your friend will be forced by the small size of her new stomach to be doing exactly what you did on your diet. Smaller portions therefore fewer calories.  At least get her to admit it's because she doesn't have the willpower instead of kidding herself that there is something about her that makes dieting "not work". The surgery is a very risky procedure, especially if she is that overweight.

She should be at a state of mind where she is being honest with herself if she is putting her life at such risk.

That's crazy that your chiropractor would even begin to start recommending that kind of stuff to you. She has no training in nutrition. Also, low carb diets are dangerous and never work longterm. Please try something else!! People think dieting has to be so hard and complicated. But all you have to do is count your calories...ughhh...makes me mad.

Hey! Welcome to CC!!

Congrats on getting started. Seriously don't worry too much about how healthy your food is. As long as you are getting the right number of calories you will lose weight. Obsessing about "good" vs. "bad" foods is just something the diet industry invented to make money. You sound like you are doing really well so far! Message me anytime if you want. :)

Good luck!

You don't necessarily have to work out to lose weight. It's a myth that the two go hand in hand.

Working out can be helpful but is NOT necessary.

No...not possible. Your body can't change like that lol.

You are estimating so much..."a big dinner at night that I literally estimate to be around 700 calories." That's definatly the difference.

Health & Support calorie needs: why am I burning less? May 13 2008
21:53 (UTC)

You are talking about a difference of less than 150 calories per day. There is no way you are counting accurately enough to get worried about that few calories.

Also, factor in how much weight fluctuates therefore saying you "maintained for about a week" you could actually have lost a small amount. I don't think there is anything wrong with your metabolism at all. You are misunderstanding how accurate calorie counting is and also expecting to see small changes on the scale which won't happen.

What works best for me is keeping track of calories. Whatever you eat (be it a whole pizza or a tub of ice cream) just make sure you log it. You will find yourself slipping back into your healthy habits quickly.

Try telling people about portion control and calorie counting they tune out or think you are nuts and obsessive. But if you tell them you eat half a grapefruit before every meal they will perk up and listen. Seriously I have seen this happen.

People are crazy.

I worked in a restaurant and this may sound a little gross but it's really not. Take something quick to eat, (granola bar, protein bar, sandwich, pepperoni stick...etc.). And eat it in the bathroom. No one will think you are slacking off cause people have to be allowed to pee!
