I have a question about treatment for EDs.
I haven't been doing well. I get weighed in weekly and my weight has stayed the same, then gone down a bit. I am at 99lbs (5'3") and my doctor wanted me in out patient. I know where I am isn't good, but I thought you had to be pretty bad off to end up in any kind of treatment facility! When they found out there wasn't an out patient center that treated adolescents in my area, my mom started asking how far I was from in patient care. Is this normal for someone in my weight range? I'm very confused about treatment and how this is being handled-- my doctor was very upset with me because I was down 3/4 of a pound! Is this all what you have experienced?

This is a good idea for a thread.
I have not upped my calories to a healthy amount yet, and it's BECAUSE of my binging. This week I was supposed to start eating more, and binged several times. Now I am back where I was before. Every time I treat myself to something or when the weekend comes around or just when I try to eat increased calories I go overboard. I'd really like to hear how others have ended the cycle.

What would actually happen to you if really you ate 10,000 calories in one sitting? Not in terms of the volume of the food in your stomach, but just the number of calories.

(Doesn't matter- I'll eat that first peanut butter chocolate goodness despite the consequences!)

I have to ask an embaressing personal question, but I figure someone here might know what's going on.
I lost my period about 4 months ago? I was probably 105lbs then, I really don't know. I got it back, but A. I am about 100lbs now and B. I don't know why I have it back. If anything, it was from frequent binging in the past month, but other than that, I was doing only about 900 calories pretty consistantly. I've been doing increased calories for, oh, 3 days!?
I am so confused.

Laughing cow cheese wedges and cheese cubes at only 35 calories (for either 5 cheese cubes or 1 wedge of cheese). There are a few different kinds, the swiss is very good. Its really soft, but it works on crackers or sandwiches or really anything.

I am offically TRYING this week. I was told to up my calories a few weeks ago but I haven't done it yet, and now I'm actually feeling as guilty about restricting as I am about binging. I had some questions though before I got on track.

I have been on a bad binge cycle for a few days, how will this affect my diet change? (I'm going to try 1200 calories this week and for the past 4 days I've been consuming between 1300 and 2000 or so. I was worried this might cause a HUGE weight gain since I've already been on increased calories, but these calories were pure junk)

I also don't know how to really get help from my mom. I've already gone a little back and forth on whether I was ready to commit to increasing my calories, and when I told my mom what I wanted to do she first said she thought I stopped counting (I thought it was pretty obvious; I've been eating almost the exact same thing every day for a while and I've been pretty honest at my doctors visits). She also was pretty clueless as to what she wanted me to do when I asked her to "hold me accountable". I don't really know how to deal with her, because if I said I wanted to gain weight she'd probably think it would be fun to see how much junk food we could put away in a week. She's come right out and said she doesn't understand, but it really irritates me when she doesn't think about where MY mind is at this point.

Anyway, I just wanted some clarification before I got myself started; I don't want to end up getting my upped calories entirely on junk food like I have been.
Foods What is the best candy/ candy bar/ sweet for you? Oct 12 2007

I think the non-chocolate things are usually lower in calories, but they usually contain an obscene amount of sugar. From what I've heard peppermint patties are usually the best thing. If you wanted something specifically look it up on CC. And as long as you aren't taking in an EXTRA 140 calories over your limit from your candy, you won't gain by eating it.

I need some help again, I have a doctors visit tomorrow and I'm a little worried.

I started going to a therapist, and she hasn't helped at all. I've actually gotten a bit worse in my binging (after which I get worried and go right back to restricting). My weight has stayed the same, and I am going for a weigh in tomorrow. I don't really know what to tell her, because I know I haven't made an effort to gain weight, but I also feel like I have no guidelines to go by. I was told not to measure anything and not to count calories, but it's a little hard when you already know how many calories everything has.

My weight hasn't dipped too low, so I wasn't ever given a calorie plan or anything, but my doctor says if I don't gain weight she's going to have to start "examinations" (??) and I don't know what to tell her. I feel uncomfortable eating what might be considered normally because I've got this binge thing going on now, and I don't think she will like that excuse.

I'm very nervous about seeing her, any advice?

I was wondering from those of you who have lost hair before or during recovery how long it took before it stopped? I've noticed hair loss for about a month but didn't relize how much it was, and now my hair is becoming noticeable thinner. I'm a little scared, because I haven't really made any progress since seeing a doctor. I began taking some Omega 3 pills and a multivitamin this week, but is that enough until I get some sort of nutritional plan going?

You can buy packs of frozen chicken breast or large bags of whole wheat pasta that will last you a while. Those are both good options actually because they keep a long time and you can easily make (or not make) left overs.

Try not to worry about it. Letting it pass is part of recovery. I ge the pregnant belly after I eat also, except not just after treats! It shouldn't take too long for the bloating to go down. Drink some water and continue moving forward.

Has anyone here done the binge-restrict thing? I've been doing a lot of this lately and I need some help breaking the cycle. One fuels the other and it has been preventing my starting healthy eating habits. If I try to eat enough, I eat too much. Or if I allow myself a weekend "treat" I end up eating an obscene number of desserts and my "treat" turns into a weekend of JUNK. I'm worrying myself, because I am finding ways to purge and I don't want to become reliant on this as well. I really need some advice on how to fix my eating habits, it seems like one thing keeps getting in the way of the other.

Slip in foods like peanut butter, which probably won't bug your parents and will be an easy way to get in protein AND calories. You can go for reduced fat also, or eat a half serving to make it fit in your diet. You can pretty much do that with anything really, if your parents won't arange for different foods.

I don't know how to get myself there mentally. Eating more usually means I get into a "screw it" attitude and binge, or I end up restricting again the next day ("just to make up for it...then I'll start healthy")

I was just wondering for those of you who are in recovery or have gotten back to eating healthy, how much support is reasonable along the way? My doctor keeps telling me that it really comes down to what I choose to do, and I know that's true. I just feel a lack of guidence and honestly, I'm not a severe case, I feel like a lot of my mental state has to do with other things. Anyway, I don't know how much I can expect my doctor or my family to "help" me with. I know it's MY issue, but it's hard. I haven't "started" eating healthy yet, I don't know where to begin (even though I really do). How much help can I expect from others?
Foods snapple green tea? Sep 25 2007
04:39 (UTC)

I haven't had the green tea, but I have tried snapple white tea, which has the same effects on your metabolism. It was very light and tastey! Can't remember if it had any artificial sweetners in it though, I'm sure you could look up the ingredients.
As far as it having a huge affect on weight loss, it doesn't. There are 2 servings of tea per bottle, and 500mg EGCG (metabolism boosting antioxident) per BOTTLE. You need I think around 3500mg to make a difference in your metabolism. The exact numbers are on the bottle.
Either way, tea is very healthy for you, and a lot better than sugary juice or soda. It would do you some good in the long run I'm sure, but it won't speed your loss that much.

Well I haven't gotten back to healthy eating yet, but I know how you feel, I am undergoing a binge-restrict cycle. I haven't started any counseling yet, but I'm hopeful that will help get me on track. The only thing I think might help is surrounding yourself with healthy people and staying active. Anyway, I know what you're feeling.
