| I'm 20 and 5'5". Heaviest: 205 lbs (2-3 years ago). Lightest: 165 lbs (my current weight!).
It wasn't a steady decline though. I lost 30, gained 10. Lost 5, gained 10, lost 5....you get the idea! But this summer I lost 20 lbs and, oh, it's staying off! |

| Everyday I bring a ziploc bag full of fresh cut veggies (green pepper, cucumber, celery, baby carrots..) to classes. Veggies are the best snack...they are low cal, really nutritious, and fill you up! Same for fruits as well...they're just slightly higher in calories, but definitely better than stuff from vending machines or whatever. | |||

My advice would be to start exercising. It's possible that restricting your calories has slowed down your metabolism, and adding exercise will speed that up again. |

| Fitness | I just did my first TURBO JAM!! | Sep 19 2007 15:51 (UTC) |
|
| I've been doing Turbo Jam 3-4 mornings a week for the past couple weeks now, and I'm definitely seeing results. I try to do the Cardio Party, but if I'm short on time I do the 20 min workout. I have started to feel not as tired and out of breath when I do it, but I'm just pushing myself harder now... jumping rope when they do dancing, doing jumping jacks when they do the tae kwon do punches (I think that part is the biggest waste of time!)... so basically I customize it according to what I like and what gives me a crazy hard cardio workout.
I heard there's other remixes of the cardio party... I wonder if they're on ebay... |

| I've been working out first thing in the morning for 5 days now. I've been eating half my breakfast before and half after my workout. I really don't know what to believe...there's so much conflicting information out there. | |||

| Yeah, I'll definitely bring them some sort of food...I'll have to see what's light and portable.
A First Nations item is a good idea! I'll just have to double check how expensive those are...I remember they can be quite pricey. Thanks again! |

| Wow, thanks so much for all the replies!
I did think of taking them out to dinner, but my mom says that they don't like to eat out. (WEIRD! :P) They also don't like maple syrup, so there goes that "local specialty" idea. Chocolates are a good idea, and I can just pick some up at the airport duty free if I don't want to carry them in my luggage. The ice wine should be fine with customs... I asked my friend who works at the airport. :) |

| I think it all depends how hard you push yourself. I can practically go on forever on a low resistance setting, but if I do the hill setting at a high resistance level, I'm dead after 30 mins. | |||

| Why don't you just take Omega 3-6-9 supplements? It sounds like you're eating very healthily, so if you're worried about getting "good fats" this is probably the easiest, lowest-calorie way to introduce them into your diet. | |||

| Weight Loss | Slow Weight loss...Anyone else? | Aug 30 2007 15:58 (UTC) |

| If you want to accelerate your weight loss, the first thing you should do is start exercising regularly. Go for a long walk every day or something else you enjoy and can work into your schedule. Even a little bit of exercise makes a huge difference. Good luck! | |||

| If you want to know what I did... I lost 15 lbs in three weeks by severely cutting my calories to 800-1000 per day. Stupid, stupid move. I'm sure a lot of what I lost was muscle and water weight. So, after joining this site, I learned that I needed to eat more to fix my slowed metabolism, so I did. For a month or so, I zigzagged my calories (1400-2000) and exercised regularly. The scale didn't budge, but I was losing inches. Now, I'm eating 1200 cal/day and exercising like I stated above, and I'm losing weight and inches. | |||

| I had a month long plateau too. Most of the time I didn't let it affect me because I'm thinking of this as a lifestyle change. Even if I don't lose weight, I'll still be healthier on the inside for eating well and exercising.
This week I started doing two short workouts per day...morning and evening. It seems to be working: I've lost at least a pound in a few days. So just change up what you're doing...experiment and find out what works. |

Whenever I lose weight it looks like it comes off my face first. I can tell a difference even with a 5 lbs loss. So just lose some weight, and you'll probably see results as well! |

| Foods | What have you eaten so far today? | Aug 28 2007 19:41 (UTC) |

| After my 20 min aerobic workout, I had a spinach omelette (1 egg, 1 egg white, 1/2 cup spinach) for breakfast. Then, I had a Nature Valley Strawberry Yogurt Granola Bar (this was a rare treat) as a snack. For lunch, I had a turkey sandwich and munched on cucumber and baby carrots.
I'm hanging out with friends after work, so my dinner will probably be verrry unhealthy. But I'm only up to 550 cals so far, so I think I can manage. |

| Pesto is really delicious with bread. It's a little high cal because of the olive oil, but it's still really healthy with all that basil and garlic. | |||

| Breakfast: Spinach omelette - 1 egg, 1 egg white, 1/2 cup spinach = 100 cal
Lunch: 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese, baby carrots, cucumber = approx. 120 cal, or grilled chicken salad (100g chicken breast, romaine lettuce, cucumber, green peppers, etc) = approx. 120 cal Dinner: fish fillet (100g), steamed veggies = 150 cal You get the idea...load on the veggies! :D |

| Weight Loss | Struggle with Diet Coke | Aug 28 2007 15:57 (UTC) |

| I used to drink a lot of Coke Zero... probably a can per day. But then I decided that I wouldn't "cheat" with my weight loss, that I'd only eat healthy foods. CZ/DC are just chemicals, which can't be good for you. They're designed to trick your body...feeding it things that it wasn't designed to digest. There's a lot that researchers don't understand about artificial sweetners, let alone all the other crap in diet drinks, and when you consider the fact that most of the research is funded by the companies themselves, you have to wonder. So, I just keep reminding myself of those facts, and DC/CZ has become totally unpalatable now. (But in the past two months of quitting the stuff, I did have one slip up...drank half a can but couldn't finish it because I remembered how artificial and unhealthy it is.) | |||

| I too was plateauing despite careful eating and regular workouts. For the past week, I have been working out everyday (sometimes two cardio sessions per day), and I think I've lost a pound or two...it's too soon to tell. I think working out in the morning has really helped increased my metabolism, so try doing that and you might see better results. I don't know how much longer I can keep the morning workouts up though...it takes a lot of will power to get up earlier to do something you hate! | |||

| I don't know how young you are, but maybe you've grown taller? Also, you've been lifting weights, so you might've gained muscle mass, which would explain you gaining weight but not inches. Sorry, I know those are weak explanations, but that's all I got! | |||

| I wouldn't weigh myself for a while, if I were you. I'd see the extra weight (water, the extra food in your system, etc), freak out, and demotivate myself. Give it a few days or a week, but eat well and workout more than usual to ease the guilt! | |||

| No one really ever called me fat as an insult except my sister, who would pull out the fat card whenever she was mad at me... because, well, I'm not stupid, mean, lazy, etc... so she had to call me *something* :P At least, that's what I tell myself. | |||
