My professor is a well-conditioned runner, and he's been training for months. He was there running, and he ended up finishing about 2/3 through the race before he passed out; he remembered feeling overheated and exhausted, and then nearly 10 minutes disappeared. His next memory was of leaning against a backyard fence with people (the house's occupants) frantically trying to give him cold water. He was trying to qualify for Boston next year. As far as why some continued on -- there were a number of people who were trying to qualify for the Olympic games and other international events, and the one in Chicago was one of, if not the last, qualifying races. |

Respectfully, there's a difference between being "low" on calories and starving your body. In order for your organs to function properly you need at least 1200. This is ignoring any activity you do. | But is there a maximum amount of your body can absorb/use before simply expelling it, as with vitamins? Granted, water is, well...water, but I'm curious what the advantages (or disadvantages) of drinking a lot of water at once versus a cup or two at a time throughout the day are. | |||
