I don't see a problem in doing that. What with all the packaged food diets out there (Nutrisystem, Slim Fast, Medifast, etc.), why not a cheaper version to add to the list? It has a ton of sodium/preservatives and is pretty low on the nutrition scale, but I don't see anything wrong with it, so long as you (like you said) eat fresh fruits and vegetables along with it. |

I definitely agree. It really is just a number. People hold their weight differently, so it really shouldn't matter what OTHERS think your weight might be. I'm 325lbs, but people are amazed and in complete disbelief when I tell them that, but only because I hold my weight so well cause I'm 6'2". So when people guess my weight is lower than that, it makes me feel good. Even if somebody guessed I was MORE than 325, I'd still feel good in knowing that I'm NOT more than 325. So it works out both ways for me. :) I think people (women especially since we tend to get down on ourselves a bit more) should focus more on losing weight and being fit for our health and to feel good, not so much for the number on the scale. Even though I know I'm fat, and the scale knows I'm fat, and the world knows I'm fat, there are days when I feel thin and I feel good. That's what we need to focus on: feeling good! So there. :P |

You eat the cookies because it's there, and the fact that you can only get it once a year. Here's a recipe for HOMEMADE caramel delights, aka "Samoas". This way, you won't have it in your house unless you decide to make them. And when you do make them, you can make them in super small batches so you aren't tempted to eat more than you prepared for. :) http://bakingbites.com/2008/01/homemade-girl- scout-cookies-samoas/ That same sight also has links to the other girl scout cookies, all home made recipes. I haven't tried them yet, but they look pretty darn similar to me. Hopefully they taste just as similar. Then I'll be in heaven! :) -Ihilani aka Mztenderheart |

| Weight Loss | Has anybody used Acai Berry Juice as a means to health and weight loss? | Oct 04 2008 17:30 (UTC) |
11 |
No no, I'm talking about PURE ACAI BERRY JUICE. No added sugar, preservatives, or any other fruit juices to make it taste good. The juice I'm talking about is straight from the acai, nothing but the fruit itself, every part of it. That's the juice with the most benefits, not this fake, sugar loaded juices you see in the grocery store. I'd like to hear about the real, pure fruit juice that you could probably only find online. I've personally have never seen pure acai berry juice locally, I've only seen it online. |

| Weight Loss | I'm SO hungry today | Sep 06 2008 00:31 (UTC) |

| I find that I am hungry the day after I do really well, or eat below my calorie goal for the day. For example, if my goal is to eat 1800 calories on Monday and I end up eating 1500, I will be hungry all day Tuesday and will end up eating about 2300. Wednesday I will eat 1600-1700, Thursday I will eat 2500 or so (of course my expenditure is 2700-2800, so it's all good). Although it does throw me off mentally. I do realize though that the number on the scale still manages to go down... so I must not be doing TOO bad a thing. I decided to just shoot for a "zig zag diet" since I seem to be doing just that anyways. So long as the number continues to go down, or stays the same (anything but up!) I say eat what you're craving. I had TWO dinners last night (PLUS a milkshake!) and my numbers this morning are the lowest I've seen so far! =) Goodluck. | Weight Loss | 10 weeks to a new me! | Aug 25 2008 16:49 (UTC) |

| Goodluck, cause you might need it. I don't believe in quitting "cold turkey" because if you do, you're more likely to fail. Moderation is key, especially when it comes to food. Cutting down is the main thing you want to do, but don't avoid it all together. If one day you want a cookie... hell, eat a cookie, but eat ONE and stop there. As hard as it is, it's really just a matter of self control. I know all about that. I'd be the same exact way. I would binge until I felt like I was gonna explode, but now I can eat a cookie, or an ice cream cone or something and stop at just one. It's incredibly hard, especially when you're first starting out, but it gets easier over time. Anyhow, goodluck! Love and Alohas, Ihilani Kapuniai aka MzTenderheart |

| Weight Loss | nutri system help | Aug 25 2008 16:44 (UTC) |

| You do realize that Nutrisystem probably isn't the best thing for someone who wants to find foods low in sodium, right? Nutrisystem is just packaged foods in small quantities (and even lower quality, from what I have tasted), and packaged foods = plenty of sodium. Although one or two servings of their foods is okay, having it 3-4 times a day, the sodium really adds up. Honestly, I would have saved my money and used it to buy a food scale and a real grocery list with fresh foods, real meats, less sodium/preservatives, etc. All you've got to do is learn how to measure your own REAL/FRESH foods (i.e NON packaged foods) and BAM! You got your own "nutrisystem". Why waste the money? Not only that, but foods you can cook/prepare at home is much more tasty. Anyhow, goodluck! Love and Alohas Ihilani Kapuniai aka MzTenderheart |

| If you don't feel like eating or if you're not hungry, then don't eat. You can try to make up for some of your lost calories next time. I'm the same way sometimes. I can go an entire day without eating anything but a banana or something small... it doesn't do as much damage as people think, unless you kept up that habit, which I doubt you will. So yeah... just make up for it. Goodluck. Love and Alohas Ihilani Kapuniai |

| Weight Loss | When to eat what?? | Aug 18 2008 16:44 (UTC) |
8 |
| People are different and have different opinions as to what a healthy diet is or should be. Some people eat by a schedule, some people just eat when they're hungry. A person should eat every 3-5 hours. I don't believe in scheduled eating. I believe you should eat when you're hungry, so long as you stop when you're comfortable, not full. Of course, breakfast IS the most important meal of the day, so you definitely want to refuel in the morning as soon as you can, but there really is no order or time in which we should eat, in my opinion. Of course, everybody's different. | |||
| Weight Loss | Nearly 100lbs to lose group! | Aug 18 2008 00:59 (UTC) |

| I am in definite need of motivation from people who are in the same situation as I am. I am currently at my heaviest and I'm disgusted! I'm 6'1", 320lbs!!!! When I was 14, I was able to lose 85lbs in less than a year and got down to 180, which was the smallest I had ever been. I was getting many compliments from my friends and family... some even said I looked anorexic... but I STILL thought I was fat and disgusting, so I fell into depression mode and began eating my way back to square one, only this time I had gained about 30lbs more. I just had my first child almost 3 months ago, and I had gained ANOTHER 30lbs during my pregnancy! My goal is to get down from 320lbs to 180lbs. My short term goal is to get down to 300lbs. I started my healthy lifestyle change at the begining of this month and I was doing well for about 10 days... then the weekend came, and I blew it. I thought, "ok well, tomorrow's another day". I wanted to restart my "diet" the next day, but instead, I blew it for 2 more consecutive days. -sighs- now I'm extremely depressed. I always find a way to mess things up and I don't know how to fix it. I've eaten a TON of calories in the past 3 days. I think all the effort I put into those ten days were just a waste now that I've ruined it. I need big time help... so I'm right there with you guys! -Ihilani Kapuniai- Aka MzTenderheart |

| Weight Loss | overeating for... how long? | Aug 15 2008 06:21 (UTC) |
3 |
| It doesn't matter how long you eat, it's how much you eat/how many calories you consume. If you consume 3500 calories more than you burn, that's enough to gain 1 pound. If you've been consistently piggin' out for 5 days, I'd expect to gain a good couple of pounds... unless you're anorexic and your definition of "overeating" means adding a few extra croutons to your dry salad. My advice: stop piggin' out. Find other ways to keep yourself busy and console your loneliness. Love and Alohas, Ihilani Kapuniai aka MzTenderheart |

| Weight Loss | Does anyone else feel... | Aug 11 2008 06:30 (UTC) |
11 |
| I'm the same way. When I go to my friends' houses, I have no control over what I eat. I have to eat whatever they have, and sometimes it isn't the most healthy things. Not only that, but the people I live with now are junkfood junkies, always buying candies, ice cream, unhealthy, fatty stuff and we usually eat dinner together, so if they make something that I can't have, I feel forced to eat it anyway. It's frustrating. Sometimes I don't even like going to my friends house for dinner, I'd prefer to stay home because that way I know exactly what I'ma eat and how many calories are in it. | |||
| Weight Loss | How many calories a day should I be eating??? | Aug 10 2008 06:59 (UTC) |
|
| If you click on the "Tool" tab once you log in to Calorie-Count, they have provided us with a bunch of calculators to find out about the things you're asking. Once you click "Tool", click "Allowance" and enter in your stats and whatever applies to you (whether you're sedentary, active, etc), and it will calculate how many calories you should have per day in order to lose whatever amount of weight you want. It's very helpful... but I doubt it's accurate because everybody is different, so it's just an approximate figure. I'm 6'1", 320lbs and very sedentary, both at work AND at home, except on days when I workout at the gym... it says I should lose 20lbs in about 3 months by eating 1800 cals a day... try it out and see what it says for you. Best of luck! Love and Alohas Ihilani Kapuniai aka MzTenderheart |

| Weight Loss | Which is worse? | Jul 20 2008 21:10 (UTC) |

| Weight Loss | Stupid Cellulite! | Jul 20 2008 08:55 (UTC) |
8 |
| Honestly, even celebrities have cellulite... the only difference is, they have the money to try everything in the book to "fix" it. There's no fixing/getting rid of cellulite except losing weight, working out and forming a nice, lean body. The less fat and more muscle you have, the less amount of cellulite you'll have (supposedly). Some women just have it worse than others, regardless or how fit you are. | |||
| Weight Loss | Another little victory (over pizza)! | Jul 20 2008 08:53 (UTC) |

| Good job & way to go! I think the little victories make the big victories even more satisfying, because you know you've worked that much harder. I had two parties to attend to today. At the first party, there was ice cream cake which is one of my absolute FAVORITES, from Dairy Queen. When I said no, everybody started teasing me with it, trying to entice me in every which way but I stood my grounds and said NO. The next party I went to had a bunch of fatty good stuff... cake, ice cream, yakisoba noodles, spam musubi (a weakness for hawaiians), and cookies... I ignored it all and went straight for the pork, chicken and fruits! I'm super proud of myself. I did good yesterday and today, although I didn't have the time to workout today, hopefully tomorrow. Yay! |

| Fitness | Faster or slower? Which is better? | Jul 19 2008 21:35 (UTC) |
1 |
| I would say yes as well. Fast is good. Fast and hard = quicker to reach and maintain target heartrate, which is what you need to do to actually burn the fat. Find out what your target heartrate is and, as you use the treadmill, try to reach it and maintain it throughout your entire workout. That's how you know you're getting the best workout. Not only that, but you can probably burn more calories in less time by going fast for say, 30 minutes, as opposed to going slow for 1 hour. Much love, alohas, and good luck! -Ihilani- |

| Fitness | 15 pds to lose, cardio vs. strength training. | Jul 19 2008 21:29 (UTC) |

| Personally, for me... I absolutely LOVE the Elliptical machine for my cardio workout. I actually like the elliptical so much that I bought one for my home. I'm usually on it for about 30 minutes (or more if I can handle it) and it gives me an awesome workout. I understand that it's hard to work up the motivation after a long day of work, but you need to just get out there and push yourself. Once you're at the gym, the motivation just comes almost instantly. Take care and good luck! |

| Have you heard of birth control? Condoms? Spermicide? Maybe you wouldn't be so "cursed" if you were just a little more careful. Granted, not all of these methods work 100%, but they are all pretty damned close. It isn't God's fault for placing the life of a child at your feet. In his eyes, it's a gift, even if you don't see it that way.
I can't stand when people complain when they get pregnant if they are sexually active and not taking the proper precautions. If you knew from the start that you hated kids and never planned on having them, why haven't you gotten your tubes tied/cut? There are ways around it, if only you would have taken more responsibility. You are very selfish. |

| Thank you all for your comments, I appreciate them. Except for pgeorgian... that was incredibly rude. If you're going to be such a *****, you shouldn't bother commenting other peoples threads. I'm in need of POSITIVE feedback. I wasn't so much asking about food budgetting, I was asking for something more along the lines of personal experience, not rude, common-sense like comments and smart *** remarks.
By the way, pgeorgian, there's no solid proof stating that "big brains" has anything to do with being more intelligent, which is what I'm sure you were trying to say. I think it might have made more sense if you would have said "can anybody with brains...". But that obviously wouldn't be you, eh? ;) To anybody else who may read this, I apologize for the outburst, but please... if you're going to be rude, don't bother commenting. Thanks a lot everybody! | a_hall - I know at LEAST 5 people (just within my work place) that has gained less than 50lbs. 2 of which had gained less than 20 throughout their entire pregnancy, so I know it's very much possible. Thank you for your comment! =)
Spuckine - Thank you, your comments were very helpful. Mom-of-Six - Once every two days?? That's insane. Also, I know I can do a LOT more about my food situation by not buying the foods that I have been buying... but I completely disagree with you when you say that meat, potatoes and veggies are are cheaper than junk foods. Potatoes and veggies aren't too bad, but meats are extremely expensive, and it only lasts one night, for dinner because remember I have 4 other people to feed. I can't find potatoes, veggies and meats at the dollar tree/.99 cent store. So yeah. carleyrapp - I do have WIC, but the only things they give is Peanut butter, milk, juice, eggs, cereal and beans. I get three vouchers per month, but what I get goes by way too fast with 5 people in the house. Besides that, I can't eat peanut butter unless I'm in the mood for it because it makes me sick... and I don't like beans all that much. And the eggs... well, hell... everyone in my family can eat up to 3-4 eggs in just one meal. I usually eat only one or two egg yolks and I'll eat up to 8 egg whites in one meal, so a dozen eggs goes by super fast. Thank you all, I appreciate the comments. |
