| Foods | Wisdom Teeth Surgery Tomorrow | Aug 15 2007 04:00 (UTC) |
|
| You shouldn't eat anything else if you think you'll be okay on eating until after the surgery. Remember that you'll only be able to eat soft foods and you'll be hungry. The important thing is, if you are going to eat more, eat sooner rather than later. You should not eat after midnight. The later you eat, the greater the chance of having residual food in your stomach during surgery. The medications given during surgery can cause you to vomit and if you have food in your stomach it can cause life-threatening complications. | |||
| Weight Loss | Anyone have the Lap Band Surgery? | Aug 15 2007 03:50 (UTC) |

| I have a good friend who has had lap band surgery and she is doing very well. As a result, a few of my other friends are considering it. She did not have any complications. She says she can't eat a lot, which helps control her weight. The only problem I've personally heard is that people learn how to "eat around it." | |||
| Weight Loss | wellbutrin | Aug 15 2007 03:48 (UTC) |

| You should carefully consider taking wellbutrin, it has a lot of nasty side-effects and I can't count on one hand the number of people who I know who have taken it and had a seziure, even with no history of seziures. | |||

| Weight Loss | Fiber | Aug 03 2007 04:39 (UTC) |

| There really isn't "too much fiber." Fiber isn't digested. The worst thing about fiber is that it can make you constipated, so remember to drink large amounts of water with your fiber. The more fiber you eat, the more fluids you should be drinking. | |||

| Fair enough. I actually started my "no excuse" program today. I went to the park across town and alternated jogging/walking for over an hour 5 times around the park. | |||

| It depends on the beach. Running barefoot is good but some of these beaches are sketchy. I stepped on nasty things at the beach. | |||

| Health & Support | Does anyone have Anxiety/Panic disorder? | Aug 03 2007 03:19 (UTC) |

| I used to struggle with anxiety, but I've improved to the point where it doesn't really bother me anymore. At the height of it I was seeing a therapist and taking Paxil. Paxil, although mainly for depression, is probably the best anti-anxiety drug on the market. The downside to Paxil is that it can cause significant weight gain. | |||

| You can try prilosec OTC (that's what I use) and see if it makes a difference. The two are stero-isomers and there is little difference between them. Sometimes people respond better and have fewer side effects to one or the other. You can also help control your GERD by eating smaller, more frequent meals with no or little fluids with meals. Honestly, I don't thik it's the GERD that's making you gain weight. I agree with the idea that you probably eat more because you feel better, even though you may not realize this. Pharmacologically, I don't see how Nexium could cause weight gain. | |||

| DKCA: Wow, what a great job you're doing! I too am trying to eliminate processed foods. The hardest part for me is peer pressure. If I had no friends and I was single I'd be 120lbs. I'm not naturally very hungry and will only eat once or twice a day while feeling fully energized on my own. The problem is when I go to the tavern after work and everyone has to order their poppers, nachos, "let's get dessert." I may not always be hungry but I'm no superman either; if people throw food at me I'm going to eat it! | |||

| Weight Loss | CALORIES?? | Jul 26 2007 05:01 (UTC) |
|
| Yes and no. Overall, your calories add up whether they are from a carrot or donut. The problem is that eating one donut loads up your calories for that day and doesn't leave room for other foods that will provide you with nutrients. Another thing you need to look at is fat content, which does make a difference in weight gain. Your calories from fat shouldn't be more than 30 percent of your total calories. If you eat 1500 calories per day and 1499 of them are from fat, you're not going to lose weight. | |||

| Foods | low cal pasta sauce, any suggestions? | Jul 26 2007 04:13 (UTC) |

| Frustrated with the high calorie, high sodium sauces, I made my own. You can use fresh tomato base or no-salt tomato cans. I added a little corn starch, red wine and shreded garlic cloves. I cooked it in a large pan while adding cooked, diced onions and peppers. Then I cooked it slowly and stirred until it was thick. It was the first time I made it and it was... okay. According to this site, it's very low and calories and sodium. | |||

| Your blood sugar is high, but diabetes is something that is diagnosed through testing. With a sugar that high and family history, it's likely you have diabetes. It's a scary thought but it's something you can't ignore. You should see your primary doctor and get your sugar under control before it damages your body. | |||
| Health & Support | Am I getting sick? (recent loss of appetite) | Jul 26 2007 03:30 (UTC) |
|
| Your stomach shrinks when you reduce your caloric intake, that's normal. Your metabolism also compensates for food reduction. You might want to try increasing your fiber intake and drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day. | |||
