smwhipple, I saw that you said earlier in the thread that you are celibate.  I too am celibate and have been for quite some time ... a long long time.  I am now dating someone that I view as being worthy enough to get down and dirty with (hallelujah!!!), however I am feeling a bit anxious about being out of the practice with regard to "romancing" a man.  So my question is ... should I tell him that I've been celibate for a long time.  Or should I remain silent to the issue and just go with the flow?

I absolutely love Christmas, but we wait until after Thanksgiving to put up the tree.  I think that having it up too early would take away from the specialness of it, so I like your idea about leaving in plain and decorating it during the actual Christmas season.

Regarding Christmas music, my daughter and I listen to Christmas music sporadically throughout the year when we need a little pick-me-up.  Other people who overhear it playing in our car or at home think we're lunatics, but it's all good.

The people at my local DMV are really nice.  They usually let you look at the picture on the computer screen before they print it to make sure it's acceptable.  I've never had an ID photo that I didn't like.  Maybe I'm just photogenic?  LOL

Awww ... what a surprise!  Baby guinea pigs are so cute.

Yes, separate cages are definitely a must until you've confirmed the gender of the little piggies.  Also males that are housed together may become territorial and fight.  Good luck with your newly expanded clan of piggies.

My mother has told me that I was unplanned since she was on the pill at the time.  I was born 7 years after my sister who was supposed to be an only child.

My daughter was also unplanned.  She was a pleasant surprise, but I have every intention in making my next kid planned.

I'm a personal fan of spiders, but I thought a spider avatar might creep people out too much.  I'm a divorce attorney and, much like spiders, we're really misunderstood.

Thank you for being considerate to us arachnophobics.  Seriously.

Kitty litter can be dangerous for guinea pigs to inhale, so he uses a box with shredded paper in the corner of his cage.  Since he likes to hang out in the kitchen, we keep a box in there too.

I gotta say, I'm not a huge guinea pig fan.  They're twitchy.

purespark, I used to have one of those twitchy little buggers (he came from my daugther's 5th grade classroom so I don't blame him for the twitchness), but he died.  I got my current piggie from the local shelter and he's one laid back little dude and he's potty trained :-)

I can't agree more that birds are evil or maybe it's just parakeets.  We used to have a parakeet that would look so sweet and innocent and then bite you on the neck ... those little beaks really hurt.  I did not miss her when she flew away.

beckyeas, those are adorable little Corgis.  We have a beautiful little Shih Tzu in our family, but those Corgis are pretty high up on the cuteness scale too.

Both dogs and cats get enough love.

So I just want to give a shout out to all the guinea pig lovers out there.

Edit:  I'm guilty of the blank avatar box too.  The guinea pig is just for today.

monarch777, the title of thread is "I hate when you plant your kids outside the store and have them ask me for money".  If that is not a clear statement of disgust for kids selling stuff, then I don't know what one is.

I don't think I am taking the issue anymore personally than those folks who are arguing the other side of the issue.  Honestly I get annoyed by the endless fundrasing too, but I was just trying to promote a balanced discussion to the issue.  It's just no fun when everyone agrees.

PS If anyone wants to order GS cookies, just PM me!  JUST KIDDING!!!  LOL It's actually against GS rules to sell cookies online (not to mention in poor taste on a website that promotes healthy lifestyle choices).

"I do not think that any of the money funded individual boys to purchase uniforms or go to camp. We had to pay for camp and uniforms seperately."

I just wanted to note that the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts are run by two totally different organizations.  I don't know anything about the Boy Scouts.  However I know for a fact that the profits from Girl Scout cookies (1) partly pay for the cost of the product, (2) partly go to the council to run a variety of GS programs and to help underprivileged girls pay for uniforms, camps, and other activities (I personally know several girls in the DC area who have gone to camp using these scholarships), and (3) partly go to the girl to offset her individual costs for troop activities.

I also wanted to add that this thread has been extremely enlightening for me.  Girl scout cookie booth sales are very popular in our area and I never gave any thought to how many people hold secret or public disgust for girls trying to sell them cookies.  The reason we do the booth sales is because door-to-door selling is mostly discouraged for privacy and safety issues.  I will be sure to be more sensitive when doing booth sales in the future and I will also bring this to the attention of the other troop leaders in our area.  We will try to stay clear of you all in the future.  Thanks for your input folks.

Will there be a funeral for CC classic? *sniffle sniffle*  Out of respect for CC classic, I will be using it up until the very end.

Despite my allegiance to CC classic, I've pretty much acclimated to using CC plus now and I actually like some of the new features.  It did take time to get used to the color explosion.

Just ask a male friend, relative, or coworker.  They will be able to give you good insight about exactly what's going on.  I had a guy friend in college whose main purpose was to help me weed out the nice guys from the knuckleheads.

Regarding the pregnancy joke, that was so funny.  I was really stunned for a couple of seconds.

So McDreamy and McSteamy have gotten a little tired, please bring Army guy back.  Will he be McManly? McHottie? McArmy? or too good to have one of those Mcnames.

I don't like the 2 week span either.  I like my TV shows to be consistent.

Rather than a different forum, perhaps try a different internet community.  There don't appear to be many men on CC who are the skirt chasing, love 'em and leave 'em type.

I'm would like to see responses to this question as well.

Regarding your wishy washy dude, if a guy takes forever to say yes or no to a date then it's most likely because he's not really not that into you.  If he's a nice guy, I would still hang out with him, but I'd definitely be focusing on dating other guys.

I am in a similar situation as you are, i.e. 32 years old, single, attractive, feeling as though my available dating pool is somewhat limited, and wondering what the heck is wrong with me.  I would definitely suggest consulting a few of your close friends to see what they think about the image that you project and how you interact with people.

Recently one of my male coworkers took me aside and told me that even though I talk about getting married and having more children those thoughts are really contrary to the image that I project.  He and another male coworker (men really can be so sweet sometimes) gave me some pointers on how I should dress and style my hair differently.  They even told me that I needed to change the shoes that I wear LOL It's made a world of difference in how I feel about myself and in turn I have been definitely turning more heads and getting approached by guys that I consider to be reasonable dating material.  Good luck with your endeavors.

Yes, I agree that this season has been fairly lackluster.  They have to keep Kenley around for a little longer because she's the only real character on the show now.

While Jerrell, Korto, and Leanne are pretty good designers, their personalities are definitely blah.  They're so calm and good natured.  The producers of this show actually picked normal people to be on a reality show ... what were they thinking?

I got an iPOD mini (one of those ancient models) for my birthday 3 years ago and I never work out without it.  Being able to listen to music, news, or books makes gym time so much more pleasant.  As others have suggested, the iPOD nano is definitely the way to go.  With the extended battery life and small compact design, it is definitely a winner.  I think they're less than $150 now which is a great price for how long they last.

ETA:  I wore mine without any covering for a long time, but I agree with the suggestion to get a wrist or arm band which are very affordable.

I'm 32 and on average I sleep around 7 hours per night.  I used to take a nap almost every day during my lunch break but once I started eating right and exercising I didn't need to do that anymore.  My energy level and sleep quality is highest when I get at least 30 minutes of exercise each day and stay away from fast food.

Oh I would never condone having the girls block any entrances or repeatedly harass customers.  Maybe it's just our neighborhood (we live in an urban, quick paced type environment) so when we just sit quietly folks tend to just rush on by.  However when one of the girls says good morning and tells them what we're raising money for we tend to get more sales with that approach.

From the perspective of a Girl Scout leader and parent of a girl who is in her ninth year of scouting, I have been out there many times freezing my butt off trying to help the girls sell a bazillion boxes of cookies just so they can go on a trip.  While some girls have parents who could easily foot the bill for the trip, there are many underprivileged girls who need to sell cookies because that is the easiest way for them to get money to go to scout camp or other beneficial Girl Scout programs.

I have taught my girls to approach people politely, only ask them once, and say thank you regardless of whether or not the person purchases anything.  I guess I just don't see what the big deal is about saying no thanks which takes a whole whopping 2 seconds out of your life and then you can gladly move on with your day.

GO SCOUTS!!! :-)

The Lounge Audiobooks? Sep 18 2008

I agree with shevandell .... I was initiated into the wonderful world of audiobooks by listening to the Harry Potter books with my daughter and I must say that Jim Dale is AWESOME!!!  He created distinct voices for each character which is not that common in audiobooks.  We once checked out the CD of "Inkspell" which was narrated by Brenden Fraser (the dude from the Mummy movies)and he was truly terrible.  Aside from that one, we've had only good experiences.

I only purchase audiobooks that I know I truly love and will enjoy more than once like HP :-)   Other than that, I agree with nomo's advice to use your public library.  I'm not sure about your library system but mine has a program where you can download audiobook files from the internet straight to your computer.  After the loan period has passed, access to the computer file is denied.  It has saved me on many boring work days!

Health & Support Coffee Drinkers Whose Caffiene Tolerance Cycles Sep 17 2008
16:23 (UTC)
I've suffered with anxiety issues for years and I love to drink coffee.  I have definitely experienced this odd cycle of tolerance/intolerance to caffeine.  I think it is mostly tied to my current level of anxiety.  When my anxiety is totally under control, I can drink several cups of coffee, tea, or caffeinated soda a day without any problems.  When my anxiety is at a typical type-A level, I can drink around two cups a day without a problem.  When my anxiety is totally ramped up, I try to have no more than 6 oz. in a day.

The use of a SSRI definitely complicates things.  When my anxiety/depression was particularly bad, I used Lexapro which was wonderful.  But when I combined Lexapro with my usual caffeine intake, it made me so jittery and anxious that I couldn't sit down and concentrate.  I just jumped from one task to another all while pacing back and forth around the room.  I even typed on the computer while standing up and moving around.

For me, a good exercise program has been the best thing ever for using up my excess anxiety energy.  Good luck with working things out!

I'm African American and I have ancestors who were slaves.  They lived on a plantation in North Carolina and once slavery was abolished they settled right across the border in southern Virginia.  Due to the nature of slavery and the absence of oral history in my family prior to the mid 1800s, tracing my ancestry is difficult and I have no idea where in Africa my ancestors might have come from.  I also have ancestors who were Native American and English.

I think it would be really interesting to have one of those DNA tests done that can help pinpoint one's genetic commonalties with people in other parts of the world.
