| The Lounge | How do I get my father to stop with the mean comments on my weight? | Jul 04 2009 04:20 (UTC) |

Thank you for the comments! I don't actually think I'm overweight; I'm pretty content at where I'm at. But even if I had my perfect ideal body, the mean jokes would still hurt my feelings. I'm pretty sure he's not trying to be hateful and he's never outright said I was fat/ugly. He'll just say things like, don't go eating all the cake, the rest of the guests want some too. I think it may be my fault too. When he says things like that, normally I just laugh it off to cover my embarassment. I think this time I'll take your suggestions and look him in the eye and say something like, "that's not funny". Maybe confronting him in front of the guests instead of when he's alone will make him stop. It's just so much harder to act assertive when you're in front of bunches of people and you just want to melt into the floor... Thank you again and wish me luck for tomorrow! |

Calorie intake was what I was confused about. I used to eat quite a bit over 2000 calories a day and now I've cut back to nearly half so I'd think there should be some sort of change in my weight... I didn't know if it meant I should eat more or less. Haha, so far I have three comments; one to up my calories(and exercise), one to stay the same, and one to lower it... But thanks for the help everyone! |

However I ate like mad (but luckily did not drink much) and I'm terrified to weigh myself right now so I'm just going to say I weigh 128 today:) |

| I just started teaching and I get that a lot. My first day there, I was mistaken for a student. I teach at a elementary school so the oldest I could really be was 14 (I'm nearly 23). I can't get away with the younger styles that a lot of the other teachers wear and stick to only really professional looking clothes. I also think glasses and wearing your hair up helps. This one time I wore a shirt that was just a bit too big on me because I feel more comfortable in bigger clothes and my coworker laughed at me because she said I looked like a child playing dressup. It wasn't even that big. So I guess form-fitting clothes would also help in looking older. | |||

| I have to admit, looks are what first attracts me to a guy. After that, he just has to be nice and funny. Very cliche, I know, but I find that one doesn't work without the other and those are the only two qualities that are a definite must for me. | |||

| The Lounge | I want to be a teacher! (Any advice from experienced teachers out there?) | Jan 22 2008 18:15 (UTC) |

| I agree that control is very important. I've worked with many children of many different ages and control was my biggest problem. I've always been a pretty agreeable person (cough pushover cough) and my first year working with kids they trampled me. After volunteering for a few years I've finally perfected that balance between kind and firm so I definitely think that any volunteer work would be beneficial. Even if it doesn't help you get into college at all (though it should), it will show you what age group you'd want to teach and how to deal with kids as an authority figure. Also, the biggest problem I'm finding right now with teaching is the parents. Keep in mind that being a teacher means dealing with the kids' tired overprotective parents also... |

| Thanks everyone for your great suggestions! Moozoo, I think I'm going through the exact same thing as you. I strangely get more thirsty and less hungry so I drink a lot more water. And even playing soccer with the kids makes me dizzy sometimes so I have to take little breaks. I'll try eating the cereal and peanut butter and see if that works. | |||

| Rides Operator at an amusement park. One word. Puke. Actually, let's not forget the kids that pee their pants. Or the ones who chicken out at the last minute and try to rip off their seatbelts while the ride is running. And the parents who scream at you because the line is too long(because that's definitely my fault). And the ones who cut the line. I don't even know how I survived the entire summer!
Celebrity poison tester sounds awesome though:P You get paid to eat free food! |
