Im pretty sure about the numbers. I count almost everything I eat and I know the cardio machines overestimate so I under estimate a lot to make up for it.

Im just getting really frustrated. I seems like I have to workout 500-1000 cals a day (which is a lot to me) and can only eat up to 1500-1800 cals (which to me is little) in order to lose weight. :(

I just find it really hard to control my diet. I find if Im not hungry I dont choose to eat, and if I am hungry I cant seem to stop myself.

And when I say "hungry" I dont actually mean hungry. A big problem for me is Im usually not hungry, and if I am hungry I like the feeling. So I usually just eat when I crave/want. Thankfully I (usually) crave a healthy balance

BTW I usually do 1-2 hours of cardio. I do one cardio machine (EFX Precore) for 30-45 mins, elliptical for 30-45 mins, and then treadmill if Im super inspired. After streching, abs/core work out, then every other day I work on my arms.

I sympathize with you. Don't feel embarrassed for asking. And don't feel like you have an eating disorder!

Im glad that people feel they can diagnose a psychological disease after reading a few sentences!!!!

But anyway I've wondered the same thing. Does anybody know how long it takes before restricting your diet to heavily effects you negatively? Sometimes I go for a few days in a row under eating (not because Im anorexic but because Im busy/not hungry/forgetful/whatever. But the next week I make up for it. Is that unhealthy for my metabolism and body?

Yea I diffidently am a black and white thinker. If Im running 10 mins late for class, I say screw it and don't go at all. Its a terrible way to function. It totally translates into my weight loss plan.

I will work on those tips you gave me. Thanks

No, I think the not doing sit ups was kinda true.

Normal sit ups are great for toning, but if she uses weights I would expect them to make the muscles bigger.

I would recommend pilates. Its never worked well for me, but everyone else raves about it

interesting stuff. Some was old information,

but the one about dairy made me feel better. I get bombarded with info about how yogurt and milk makes you lose. But I should think about how much money the milk industry and lobbyist put into advertising and new studies.

Haha this post makes me laugh because I was on the elliptical and my eye started twitching. It deff wasn't the first time either. I heard that eye twitching is related to stress. But I don't think Im stressed while working out, its the opposite in fact. Sorry I have no real answer

I think most people will say that someone on a diet should have 1200 cals a day with out exercise. If they exercise then they need to add the number of cals lost during activity to their intake.

But since you are young and not trying to lose weight I would aim for at least 2000 cals. And then add calories depending on how much you worked out. I would suggest just a well rounded diet. Carbs are really important for those who do a lot of activity. People over estimate their protein needs. I would aim for 45-50 grams a day. If you need extra calories to meet your goal intake its def fine to get them from healthy carbs.

In the gym I would say running would be good for endurance and to build some leg muscle which will come in handy for your hike. Congrats, it sounds like something fun to look forward to.

Weight Loss Im almost 16-should i lower my calorie intake now?? Oct 17 2007

No, I kinda disaggre. I know what youre saying, Im 19 and I know my metabolism has slowed down since I was 14-15, but it slows down very very gradually. It has only gone from 2200 to around 1600 cals, so I think you will be fine with that intake.

Weight Loss Anyone with 20 - 35 pounds to lose, come here! Aug 09 2007

Hey Im 5'4 and 135, I started at 140 and want to be 115. So thats a total of 25lbs I want to lose. 5 down 20 to go. And what I realized last night, even though it feels like Ive lost no weight that 5lbs is actually 20% of my goal. For some reason seeing it as a percent makes weight loss seem more manageble.

I thought I would list some positive ideas about losing 20 lbs....

The first 5 lbs.... to me are the easiest, only takes a week or so. The begining of a diet is fun exciting and easy to stay motivated.

The first 10lbs.... This is when I have to be a stickler. It takes about a month to lose it. Habits will start forming so try to keep the good habits, and cut out bad ones. The good part about the 10lbs is this is when you first see a difference usually

The first 15.... Hard to keep up perfectly. By now I know I have had some bad binge days. But as long as you jump back on the next day you will be on track. People might start telling you they see the difference. And another plus, you might have to go out and buy some smaller sizes!

The Last 5 Lbs.... To me this is the hardest to lose. Your so close to your goal, but youve been after it for soooo long. You may hit a plateau as you near your healthy weight and it may take time. But dont get discouraged and mess up all of your work. Once you hit your goal, get yourself a big treat. (not a food related treat)

Im 19 5'5 and female. Though I weigh a bit more :(

But I think I do a very similare routine, except the outside running. Most days I burn 700-900 cals on cardio machines, and then another 50-100 calories stretching, doing calisthetics, or weights.

I say if you love it, then do it. My fear is that I will burn myself out and begin to hate the gym.

It seems your eating enough, if you plan for an extra long workout, eat more.

Though Im no expert so Im interested in the other replys
