| My dad just had this done a couple weeks ago, and so far he's doing great. He just moved past the liquids only phase a couple days ago, and has now moved on to being able to eat mushy foods. He's also not allowed to lift anything heavy yet (over 25 or so lbs.), but he never really felt that bad except for the first day or two. He went back to work on the third day I think. During the first couple weeks I made him protein shakes all the time because that's pretty much all he was eating. He was only able to hold about 4 ounces of it at a time, so it was actually hard for him to get in the required 60-70 grams of protein each day. | |||

| sometimes I suck on fruit-flavored mints, such as the ice breakers sours and that helps....it could be your alternative to gum. or sometimes I find that if I get some sort of diet drink that works too..water with crystal light or flavored carbonated water. Then as far as food goes, how about chopping up an apple, or there is kashi go lean. It's really crunchy, so it will definitely satisfy the munching urge. | |||

| There are some recipes out there that don't require any cooking. Basically you just mix together oatmeal, protein, and pb, and just stick them in the freezer....I think. But this could be an option considering it would probably take less than 10 min to prepare. | |||

| I'm 19 and 5'4....I would say that unless you are training for running events, you could cut back on the cardio. You could try doing a higher intensity cardio session for a shorter time frame. You should look into HIIT, I'm sure there are a lot of threads started on that here. Also, you could use the extra time for more weights instead of so much cardio. I'm no expert or anything, but that's what I would do if it was me. I used to be a cardio queen, but I started using weights more, and I'm loving the results. | |||

| I don't think there's much difference in which is better if you're talking about nutrition, BUT if you want something sweet....chop the apple up, add some sweetener and cinnamon (some people add diet coke, though I've never tried it), maybe even a little butter spray..you get the picture....and microwave away....get creative with it haha | |||

| I like to add protein powder to mine..endless flavors with that....but if you don't want to do that, there's always cinnamon, any kind of fruit you want, or flavoring drops (endless flavors as well). I really like to use vanilla protein powder and cinnamon, and sometimes even a little butter spray, which makes it taste like a cinnamon roll....sorta | |||

| I like the nature's own line....the light versions of honey wheat and wheat are 40 calories and good..then they also make a whole wheat, which is 50 cals but really good as well. The light version from Merita isn't bad either..40 calories | |||

| or offer to bring the baked tostitos and some salsa? or the lowfat popcorn..the actual bags that I have don't even say that it's lowfat, only the box does, so they'd never even know it was a healthy option haha..then of course you could always get some of the popcorn seasonings (high sodium, but not high calories anyway) | |||

| Fitness | Eating to gain muscle. | Aug 04 2007 00:23 (UTC) |

| yes, you have to eat over maintenance. the more you are over, the faster you will gain, but the higher you go, the more fat you will gain along with the muscle (some fat gain is pretty much inevitable though). you could try 300-500 over your maintenance and see how it goes. I personally wouldn't go any higher than that.... | |||
