This is actually called Honeymoon Cystitis.  If this is the only partner you have trouble with it might be him (there was reseach done at U of M about 9 years ago looking into partner transmitted UTI).  Otherwise you can try what everyone else suggested.  The research best supports cranberry juice as a preventative.  It seems to stop the adherance of the bacteria to the bladder lining but does not seem to work as well as a curative.  If you give up on natural remedies you can go on preventative antibiotics or you can take antibiotics only on the nights you have sex.   An Ob/Gyn would be your best bet, avoid non specialists for recurrent UTI's.

Everyone has given great advice, but I want to caution you against using "preventative antibiotics" or taking them only when you are having sex.  Even if you never get another UTI again from taking them this way, you are more likely to put yourself in danger of getting other infections; ones that will be harder to get rid of.

When you take only a few antibiotics, and not a whole course of them, or when you aren't sick, you are killing off the good bacteria in your body (poor digestion and yeast infections could be in your future ) and you are killing only the weak bacteria that would be considered "bad".  You are leaving behind the strongest bacteria to breed and produce more strong bacteria.  You don't want to have only strong bacteria that is bad in your body.  They are very hard to get rid of and tend to mutate to become antibiotic resistant in generations  to come.  This is partly what has caused MRSA.

Good luck.  I have personally had success with a little cranberry juice (I use Cran-apple) each morning as a preventative.

That's in economy...  Business class, you get an extra .5 inch... lol  Not really worth the money!

Kids should have to pay for 12 seats to deter parents from bringing them on planes. How do I get that made into law?

i agree 100%.  they should have to pay for half the plane or something.  i swear, every single freakin time i fly...there's a small child sitting behind me.  kicking the back of my seat and crying.  or grabbing my hair with the dirty little hands.  or there's one in front of me, peering adorably over the back of their seat, smiling...then throwing stuff at me.  argh.

i like kids, but sometimes, parents, get them to behave please.

Couldn't there be like, a sky trailer for kids?  A separate compartment towed along behind the plane?  On a longish chain?  Maybe?

HA!!!  Love it!!  I think this should be true for anyone under the age of, oh, say 15.  LOL

This may actually affect me this coming summer...  I am changing my eating in an effort to lose weight for me, but also because I have planned to fly to CA (from SC) to visit family that I haven't seen in 14 years....  I was going to go last year, but I looked up the seat sizes and it's only like 21 inches or something like that... and my a** is definitely bigger than that (esp. when I sit on it...lol)  They've gotten smaller over time, too.  Yell

I have really worried and stressed over it and whether I will lose enough weight, if I'll be one of those people that have to prove the seatbelt will go around me or I'll need a belt extender, or if I will even be able to squeeze my cheeks in-between the arm rests....  and is there a person that will be forced to sit next to me that will be incredibly uncomfortable sitting to this big lady and they can't find another seat b/c all the airlines are booking and over-booking the flights these days.... Embarassed

And then there is the whole issue of them asking how much you weigh...

God I hope I lose the weight I need to... Undecided

Hi Ladies,

Been forever, I know.  Been getting started in school and life in general is stressful.  I had lost about 13 pounds when I stopped logging, and I've gained about 7 of those back.  Frown  But, I will try again.  It seems I have spent all my life "trying" and not "succeeding".  But, I suppose, the only true failure is when you quit, right?

Barbara, I am so glad to see you are doing better.  I have thought of you often, even though I haven't been logged on.

Take care, ladies.

I'm not a parent, but I teach high school.  I have seen both responses... some parents don't react well at all when teachers call ("Why you callin' me?  I can't do nothin with him, either") while others worship the ground we walk on when we call about their kid ("Mrs. So-and-So is so wonderful!  She takes time out to call me about my daughter and go to her games (really just fulfilling a duty) and makes my girl feel like she is the only kid in the class....")

If I had children, I think I would want to know if my kid was failing, being a brat, or sleeping all the time.  I would also want to know when my kid did something great.

Perhaps your mother-in-law got calls all the time only about the bad things her son did....  ?

I am interested to know, what grade do you teach?

I know this sounds rude, but why?

Because it has already been smacked around by many, many people and debated heatedly by moody, pg, and p0nda, I am not going to give my opinion on the original topic...... you don't want to hear it, anyway, with my being a very fat person.....

What I am going to say is, young people today have no sense of tact.  Yes, tact.  Some of you may not know what this word means... it means "politeness", but it also includes the idea of "self restraint" or "self control".  You know, thinking before you speak?  Not showing your a** by saying things that are ill-advised.  This should be your new smiley --> Foot in mouth   Just because you don't like someone/something, doesn't mean you have the right to blurt it out without thinking about it first.

Learn some manners.  Practice them everyday.  You'll have more friends and less enemies.

PS.  I realize this is the Lounge, and I am not saying people don't have the right to stick their foot into their mouths, but, for Pete's sake, when people get mad at you about what you say, don't complain about it later if you didn't use any tact at all.

Oh Penny, I want you to post a picture when you wear your prom dress to the store!!!  That's a hoot!  And I don't think you're crazy for it; I would do the same thing!!  Tongue out

July 1 is tomorrow, Jodi... I bet you've dropped below those 2 pounds, huh?  Keep it up, girl!

Karen, I have an idea of what DH might mean, but what would DS stand for?  Good job on the dropped weight!  It's such a great way to exercise, in a pool.  It's terrible to think that kids are endangering themselves by not obeying rules.  So Sad for everyone...

Meggs, Karen said the same thing I was going to about eating out...  On CC, you can often look up restaurants and sort their foods by grade.  It's not all-encompasing, but it can be helpful.  Also, if you find you just have to have something, get the small... If you have a favorite food, you might look it up before you go to get an idea of what it'll cost you in calories.  Good luck; I know you can do it!

Welcome, lesalorraine!  I am glad you have decided to join us.  This is a great group; the support is fabulous.  You have set a good goal for yourself!  I have only been changing the way I eat for a couple of weeks.  I have hit a couple of rough patches, but with the help of these ladies, I can get past them.  I haven't been able to do any public weight loss programs, either...  Can't wait to get to know you!

The Lounge If natural selection prefers beauty, health and fitness - Jun 29 2008
01:23 (UTC)

Humans left the realities of natural selection long, long ago.  Generally, natural selection is not a process of an animal (a bird, let's say) actually thinking, "Boy, his colors are so bright and his tail is so long....  I have to have him!"  It is more of an unconscious process... thought even to be genetic.  The females of a given species are "programed" to prefer brightly colored males and those that have "dangerous" traits, like the long, heavy tail (it could drag him down, but he is still alive, thus he must be fantastic...)

Human's, however, actually do think about these things.  We think about not only looks, but personality, money, stability, etc.  Our (women, say) thought process is more like, "OMG he's hot, but he's an ass" or "He's not a dog, but he's no Brad Pitt, and he is the sweetest, most generous person".

Not to mention the fact that we can now practically raise the dead...

These examples are sort of simplistic, but they show what I am trying to say... We have become too "advanced" for natural selection to work on us.

Health & Support I've lost 20 pounds and my back is killing me Jun 28 2008
05:00 (UTC)

I haven't experienced this, but as far as anatomy goes, there are a couple of reasons this might be happening...

First, you have lost 20 pounds.  What is your goal to lose?  Unless you are very far away from your ideal weight, you have lost the weight pretty quickly.  You have probably lost muscle weight, not fat weight.  The loss of muscle mass could be causing the pain.  Make sure that you are doing appropriate exercises to make sure you are toning and forcing your body to use the fat energy.

If that is not it, and you are very far away from your goal, and you are exercising, you may want to make sure that you are keeping your diet balanced enough.  I do really well on low carb, high protein diet also, but your body can go into ketosis if the protein level is too high.  Check with your doctor if you are unsure if you are balanced enough to keep your body from produce too many ketones.

Good luck!

Hi all!

It seems like everyone is doing better/well.  I am back on track, keeping my calories down.  I did go up a couple of pounds, but they have gone away again, so I am happy.

I am still struggling with the desire to eat despite the fact that I have just eaten and am not hungry.  This usually drives me into the kitchen to eat a pickle spear!

Welcome, prettibrown!  We look forward to getting to know you!

Kekri84, it's awesome you can wear those jeans!  I am looking forward to that day!!  Keep it up!

Jodiferjuniper, I understand the difficulty of changing schedules... I find it difficult to adjust to the new summer activities, and a friend of mine is actually depressed for a week or two after school ends.  I love to work with animals!  I was going to be a veterinary surgeon, but I realized that wasn't what I was supposed to do after all... I was supposed to teach, and I love it!

Jodi, I completely understand about the insecurity and all... I feel the same way about once a month it seems.... perhaps you are right and it is PMS.  I don't log my weight when I gain, either.... even if it takes a month for me to go back down!!! lol  Feel better, ok?  You are doing fantastic!  I know, 'cause I looked at your Ticker!!!  lol

Karen, what kind of pool do you have?  You said little, but I wasn't sure if it was little or if it was an endless pool....  Anyway, even things that seem effortless burn calories and tone muscle!!

Bonne Vivante, welcome and good job for seeking reinforcements!  This group is fantastic for support, and we have all gone through just about anything that can happen with losing weight.  Changing eating habits is hard... You can see above, that I am having a difficult time getting adjusted, too.  I can definitely relate to changing in such a big way.  I have about 200 pounds to lose...  it really is a big change.  Good for you for taking your time and for taking the first steps!

Congrats nillytoots!  I hate plateaus!

Lonestarpenny, thankfully, the neighbor said that years ago, when I was a teen; I have gotten over it and have more confidence in myself than I did.  So now I am on my way!

Well, I've got laundry to fold!!  Everyone have a fantastic weekend!

I loved the Samba and the second Hip Hop.

I have to agree about Chris and Comfort.  At first I thought that it would just be Chris, but for the last 2 weeks, Comfort has "disappointed" the judges in some way...

As for Contemporary routines, a lot of the time I think the dancers are screwed over by routines the public doesn't understand.  The weirder it is, the less the public likes it.

At least, that's what I think.

But, I, like spirochete, am no dance expert.  Cool
