Thanks for all the replies guys!

I will definitely take some of the advise posted here. Eating with friends is a good idea, i can talk a persons ear off so that should slow me down lol.

The good news is today I have resisted the urge to binge so far (drinking water really helps). I think i'll try and get in contact with someone who I can talk to about this stuff, i want to get this under control before it becomes a monster.

the best way i can think of to quantify the exact amount of fat lost would be to cook the hamburger or whatever in a skillet, save the fat/juice that runs off and let it cool, the fat should harden while the juices should stay liquid, weigh the fat and you have your answer.

Weight Loss How much fiber do you consume? How can I add fiber, without the calories?? Jul 23 2008
18:54 (UTC)

Actually the guideline is 14 grams of fiber a day per 1000 calories consumed, the 25+ for women is based on the average number of calories most women need, if your eating about 1500 calories a day then 20 grams of fiber should be your minimum.
Health & Support caffeine = fat? Jul 07 2008

coffee contains caffine which doesnt harden the arteries, it constricts them temporarily, this can cause a raise in blood pressure which can make a heart attack more likely particularly in people with a heart condition or high blood pressure.

There is some data out there that suggests that something in coffee can negativly affect the elasticity of arteries, the aorta in particular, but there is so much conflicting information that a consensus hasent been reached.

cough drops are like hard candy, they have about 15 calories each, tums have 8 calories for 2 pills, some vitamins have 10 calories per pill but it should say on your bottle somewhere (in really small print).

As for cough syrup and other syrups, do not take them unless absolutely necessary, they can contain anywhere from 20 - 30 calories per TWO TEASPOONS, its outrageous, i avoid it whenever possible.

Weight Loss Digital scales vs. real ones? Jun 17 2008
12:16 (UTC)

by the way the doctors office scales may use springs, but its just a large balance. This means that its perfectly accurate, balances, as long as they are calibrated properly, will give you the most accurate weight.

keep in mind that if you usually weigh with clothes off, and depending on the time of day, your weight will be different at the doctors office.

The Lounge I really want a MAC!! Jun 10 2008

i just recently got the macbook for college it cost me $999 plus tax, and i got a free printer/scanner and a free 8G ipod touch with it (this deal is going on until september by the way).

At first it was weird getting used to the new computer, but after about a week (and several online tutorials) i have decided i will never again go back to a pc.

The one downside is that you do need to get mac specific software, this really isn't an issue at all though unless your into computer gaming. and you can get all the programs like word and excel, or at least an equivalent that allows you to load things saved on Microsoft programs, so you don't even have to switch over any files.
Foods r coconuts bad for u? Jun 05 2008

I puncture the eyes of the coconut and drain the water out, then roast in the oven at 350 until the shell cracks (10-20 min depending on the coconut), then i use a vegetable peeler to remove the brown husk thing.

Foods salad dressing scoop - how many tbls ?? Apr 23 2008
00:13 (UTC)
I believe the ladles are 4 tbsp, so you would be having about 6 tbsp of the dressing. For a ful fat balsamic vinegarette thats 330 calories, most low fat dressings would be 240 calories, just straight balsamic vinegar would be anywhere from 60-120 calories.
Foods Sugar/water: PLEASE RESPOND Apr 20 2008
13:59 (UTC)
kind of off topic, but i would like to point out that all suagr is natural sugar, not just the sugar from fruits and vegetables. Sucrose, or table sugar, comes from suagr cane or sugar beets, and believe it or not it takes minimal processesing to be refined to its sugar state, just a few whirls in a centrafuge and some evaporation and its good to go.

there are actually bugs in most foods, all the ones containing some kind of flour anyway.

Let me explain, you ever see those huge machines which cut down the wheat and grind it and everything out in the fields? well those feilds are home to lots of bugs, the machine cuts down the wheat and any bugs that happen to be on it, the machines cant exactly say hey theres a bug here i better not grind it, so the bugs get ground up with the wheat.

That isnt to say that theres tons of bugs in flour, there is a screening process which removes many of the bugs, but they cant get everything.

And by the way, the way those bugs that get in flour and everything? The eggs are already in the flour.
Foods Deep-frying Apr 10 2008
23:15 (UTC)
if done properly not much oil, i regularly make french fries that only take on two tablespoons of oil per 2 pounds fries (yes i measured the starting and ending oils by weight to figure this out). The problem is in order to get to the point where you know exactly how to do it like that your gonna get a lot of oil in your food, and its different for all foods, for example only 2 tbsp in the fries, but i tried it with chicken and completely failed.

In other words, with practice deep frying doesnt have to add a lot of oil, but its gonna take a lot of work, and a lot of unnecessary oil in your food to reach that point.
Foods what if I ONLY consume beer? Mar 26 2008
23:17 (UTC)
3
The reason beer makes people gain weight is because alcohol is a poisen, when you injest it your body will do all it can to get it out of you, while your liver is occupied trying to filter all that alcohol from your body it's not doing some of its other jobs, which include filtering through all of the carbs and fat that you digest, the carbs and fat from anything you might be digesting are therefore immediatly stored rather than used causing weight gain.

Alcohol also has 7 calories per gram, so even if your on an empty stomach your still gonna store something.
Foods carob vs. chocolate chips Mar 26 2008
23:03 (UTC)
2
okay cellophane star sorry to pick on you but carob chips are NOT chocolate chips made without dairy products, chocolate made without dairy products is called dark chocolate. In fact carob is not related to chocolate in any way shape or form other than the fact that it can be made into something that looks a little like chocolate, but tastes nothing like it.

for more information go here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carob_tree
Foods What do you think of Olestra? Mar 22 2008
12:45 (UTC)

Since olestra is a fat substitute it acts like a fat, meaning that fat soluble vitamins like vitamins A, D, E, and K will bind with it. Unfortunately since olestra is not absorbed by the body those vitamins are lost, check out this website for more information

http://www.vanderbilt.edu/AnS/psychology/heal th_psychology/olestra.htm

Personaly I wouldn't touch olestra if you paid me.
Foods Food Scales Mar 19 2008
01:20 (UTC)
you can find some pretty good ones at any store that sells kitchen supplies, since many professional baking recipes are by weight rather than by volume almost any reputable kitchen supply store should have scales that will measure to the nearest gram very accurately.
