| The Lounge | What exactly do you consider Cheating???? | Mar 16 2009 14:53 (UTC) |

I'd say it's cheating if your S.O. thinks it is. For some with very open relationships, it could be just not telling him/her that you are having sex with someone else - for others even looking at Playboy could be cheating. For my wife and I - it's mostly about keeping anything secret. Not that either of us has been with anyone else in way too many years of marriage - but we both know that it's natural to look at a pretty (or handsome) person. (I'm male) |

| Wow - my "to read" list has just grown significantly!
Chellfraggle - definitely read Kite Runner! It's simply an amazing story. I never, ever thought I would want to read a fictional book about life in Afghanistan but was blown away both with the story itself and the writing. Power Faith and Fantasy was very very good. He has a way of putting together the issues of the day and show the very complex relationships in such a way that you can understand their impacts. For Carl Haiasson (sp?) I've only read Hoot (with my kids) and Skinny Dip - has he written anything else? Cheers! |

| Thanks for the chapter and verse... very helpful.
I guess I never thought of Corinthians as defining Christian values today. As I understand it, this is Paul's letter that outlines how Christians should act and was written at least 50 years after Christ's death (a letter to the church in Corinth). As a result, much like the admonishments in the old testament about stoning your wife if she isn't a virgin on her wedding night (Deuterotomy 22) or stoning your rebellious teenager (Deuterotomy 21, I think) - I think this is not relevent to religious thought today. One consistent theme in both Judaic and Christian belief is to be true to your beliefs and practice forgiveness and generosity to others. All of you who "can't stand" what others' do should be praying for patience and understanding - not judging others. |

| Algernon - you and I have the same tastes in literature! Especially anything with Terry Pratcher and / or Neil Gaiman. Recommend everyone go see the movie Stardust based on a Neil Gaiman graphic novel.
Also, Dave Eggers' latest work- "What is the What?" - tough reading but very very good. Nonfiction - I am just finishing a book called "Power, Faith, and Fantasy" about the relationship between the US and the middle east since 1600 or so. Really interesting. Fiction: "The Kite Runner" by Khaled Hosseni - amazing story about a kid from Afghanistan. "The Time Traveller's Wife" - can't remember the author. Amazing, sort of sci-fi sort of social commentary. "A Clash of Kings" - by James Martin - typical middle ages fantasy stuff, but fun to read. "Ender's Game" by Orson Scott Card - my favorite SF story of all time - just reread it this summer. OK - "Time Enough for Love" by Robert Heinlein comes close too. That's all so far this summer. |

| What part of Christianity eludes to no premarital sex?
Certainly it is a doctorine of many Churches (Catholics and many born-again sects come to mind) but I can't remember anything in the bible strictly forbidding premarital sex... I think it is a modern interpretation. I'd like to see chapter and verse. Now... premarital sex with your neighbor's wife... that's certainly against the rules. |

| The Lounge | men!! what is more attractive... | Aug 21 2007 17:44 (UTC) |

| I would reconfirm what everyone is saying here.
You are attractive when you know you are attractive and are confident enough to show it. It's in attitude, dress, etc. not necessarily in your curves (or even a bit of a tummy). Get over the ex - he just wasn't that into you. It wasn't because you aren't "dainty" enough. That's an excuse and something you really can't do anything about anyway (I mean, you aren't going to suddenly become 4'5" tall or anything, eh?). Truth is that there are millions of men out there and the right one will be there for you. I know that in my heyday finding a girl who liked running marathons and was as strong as I am would have been a major, major turn on. Both because we'd share similar interests, are likely healthy, and because it has a good chance to lead to more .. um.. fun in bed... hmm |

| The Lounge | Any advice? 13 hour flight with 4 month old!!! | Aug 21 2007 17:23 (UTC) |

| All good advice here. I've flown with each of my kids when they were infants on very long flights (we are Americans but lived in Tokyo for 5 years). My youngest went on her first 10 hour flight at 3 weeks old (Tokyo to Chicago).
I don't do the antihistemine thing, but have done all the rest: Cot in the front - definitely call the airline first. Also, if this is an international flight you need to register the infant even if he/she doesn't have a seat. Feeding on take off and landing is key. Keep cleanup stuff nearby too incase the baby makes a mess (gets airsick, spits up, etc.). If he/she is teething we like to take a little red wine and put it on their gums - seems to help a lot. One thing we always did was start changing the baby's sleep schedule a few days early. Get the baby to the point where they will sleep on the plane right after takeoff. Good luck! We always loved flying with the kids and now (my eldest is 13 and youngest 5) they are great on airplanes. |

| I agree that not all men like the same things - not at all. Part of it is maturity, certainly but part is also just individual taste. That's why there are 31 flavors, after all.
I tend to go for anyone who is "fit" and certainly curves are good. Assuming fit means not obese, I'd go there certainly (Marylin Monroe over, say, Heidi Klum). I do like some petite women if they are both small and short - I think it inspires some sort of protective instinct in me. Having said that, I don't think it would excite me for as long. I still think that confidence and personality are the keys for me, and for all people. |

| Erinzz - you are spot on!
I always think it is funny to look at the women in "women's" magazines (like Cosmo or Glamour) compared to "men's" (like GQ or Esquire). The women in men's magazines have some curves (albeit sometimes artificial ones)- the women in girls mag's look anorexic. It's weird to me how women propagate this "ultra-skinny" ideal. |

| Wannabe,
When I lived in Paris I made a few trips to Ireland. Been to Belfast, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Tralee, and co Cork (mainly by bike). It was a magical trip for me for a number of reasons - but the people I met and the scenery and the great pubs... will live with me forever. Each of the places I listed I love for different reasons. Some because I loved living there (Tokyo, Paris, and Chicago) some for the experience I had there or their beauty and history. And some, like Ireland and Scotland, were really for the people, experience, and music. TR |

| Weight Loss | Do people ever call you skinny and look at you weird? It hurts because they act like staying slim is effortless! | Aug 02 2007 19:12 (UTC) |

| I think there is a difference between being "concerned" if someone weighs too little - like someone with an eating disorder - and being rude by making comments about people's weight.
I used to be pretty large (male, 5'10", 220 lbs). Around 15 years ago I lost 70 lbs, which made me quite small. Both when I was big and small I got comments [you know, "look at the fat kid...to... you must not have to work at being thin"]. I think both were rude. I certainly wasn't starving myself, nor was I unhealthy. I think that is what "thatkittygirl" is referring to. Having said that, I'd rather be skinny then fat - any day. |

| 1500 sounds right to me. Don't forget that as a 19 year old woman you need some fat in your diet. 1 whole milk yogurt or similar will make a big dent in that 1500. | |||

| Looks right to me. No reason you need to starve yourself on a diet. You've picked really healthy, nice foods that don't have huge calories. | |||

| I think that the SF shakes are great - if combined with a healthy diet. This is really what the manufacturer recomends anyway - not that you use it all the time.
Like abdesigns, I never use the pre-made shakes and make one/day for breakfast. They are yummy, nutritionally balanced, and provide a good base of calories for the morning - most other breakfast food that I like is just terrible for you, except yogurt which I usually have 1-2 days a week instead of the SF. I am sure you can lose lots of weight eating only SF but I agree you would eventually gain it back. Much healthier to use it as a part of a good diet/nutritional plan. TR |

| I'm pretty much attracted to any woman - at least physically. I do tend to like petite women - small breasts, doe eyes, long hair. I also like redheads (married to one!). Having said that, when I was single I tried every flavor, size, and shape - women are wonderful.
The thing is that it's more about how you carry yourself. Are you self-confident, funny, happy, relaxed? Do you smile? Are you interested in me and interesting to be around? Before you go and say that you need to attract them first and then you can show your personality - I disagree. It is clear in how you carry yourself. You look more attractive, more intelligent, etc. That is what gets people's attention. I actually believe it works for men too. I had a friend (a guy) growing up who was...um.. not very attractive by any standard - he always had a beautiful girlfriend though. What he was was very sure of himself. He looked women in the eyes, showed his personality, engaged with girls and was really interested in what they had to say. I had always been a shy person, but talking to him and taking his approach into account really changed ability to meet and date girls. |

| Sorry to enter mid-discussion.
I think your prayers were answered - for you - and I wish you and your family all of the best in your lives and beliefs. But look at the poor family in CT this week where some evil people broke in, assaulted the mom and 2 daughters, tied the whole family up, and burnt down the house with them in it. Only the dad survived - and can you imagine being him and living? That is the cruelest of all. Was G-d not with them? Were their prayers not answered? Were they "evil" that G-d should let this happen? I think the issue with G-d taking an active role in our day to day lives is that if this is true - or if G-d is all knowing, all-seeing, and omni-benevolent - there is too much evil allowed to happen in the world to good, godly people. I hope that G-d is "real" and believe there to be something greater than us all - despite or perhaps because I am a trained scientist. The stories in the bible are just that - they are meant to convey a history of what happened and a moral lesson for all of us. If you take it all too literally - or believe in G-d's day to day involvement in your life you will be led to making all sorts of bizarre judgements. |

I completely agree. The Nike/iPod kit is awesome. I don't wear Nike shoes (as they seem to be too narrow for my feet) but wear the pedometer part of the kit in a little packet that attaches to my shoelaces - works great. I would highly recommend! |
