Hey... Halloskinny! Try circuit training.  It's the only thing that made a huge difference for me.

I wouldn't worry too much about getting down to 105lb.  That's actually a bit too small for you.  I'm at 110lb and I'm shorter than you.  I was going to push it to 105lb but decided I was starting to look too thin.

Take baby steps!!! Set smaller goals. Like 3-5lb / month.  That's a healthy weight loss.  Plus if you do it more slowly you are more likely to keep it off.

Would love to help out halloskinny.  I need a few more details about you first.  Height?  Weight? Age? What do you eat?  How many calories / day? What do you do for exercise?  Those sorts of things.

Here's what I did.  I cut my calories to 1200 / day (healthy calories... be sure that you're getting the most bang for your buck.  Don't fill up on empty calories) I work out (circuit training) 3 times a week for 30 minutes.  I do a Pilates class 2 times / week for 30 min.  And walk for at least 30 minutes every day.

Hi Kate! I'm experimenting this week... and a little apprehensive.  I'm going to try not counting calories for a few days and only weigh myself every 3 days... probably Friday and Tuesday.  It's challenging cuz I'm used to counting now.  But I think I've learned what I can and cannot eat.  It's just a matter of finding the number of calories I can eat without gaining.  I was eating 1200 / day to lose weight so I'm going to try increasing to 1300 for a couple of weeks and see how that goes.  If I'm able to maintain great!  If I lose weight I will increase to 1400.  Just take it easy for a little while. I'm also planning to start doing some more weight training just to increase my muscle tone so I don't just look scrawny!

Hey!!! I didn't weigh in last Saturday or on Wednesday because, to be honest, I was frustrated with the last pound.  I've been hanging on at 111 for almost 3 weeks!!!  But good news!!! I stepped on the scale this morning and I was 108.5!!!  My goal weight was 110 which was only 3.5 lbs for Septmeber, but I got the extra 1.5 and have hit 5 pounds and am HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!! No more weight loss for me, now it's just maintaining! My reward to myself for reaching my goal is a new puppy. (miniature Dachshund)  I go to pick him up tonight!!! Since there are only 2 days left this month, Goodluck to everyone! See you around!

Just a word of advice...  Your "double double" is what contains the actual calories.  The coffee itself has 5 - 10 calories depending on the size.  If you like you coffee double double then go for it, let yourself have one pleasure without guilt.  70 calories is not much.  Go for a half hour walk and it's gone.  PLEASE!!!! Avoid artificial sweeteners and flavored creamers!  A little sugar and fat are a lot less harmful to you than all of the chemicals and possible carcinogens in artificial foods.  Think of your long term health not just the quick fix for here and now!  ENJOY YOUR COFFEE!!! You deserve it. (PS... Please eat breakfast)

My youngest is 14 months and until just recently, it didn't seem to matter how much I worked out and how much weight I lost the "pooge" (that's my name for it) never went away.  Then a friend turned me on to circuit training!!! Combining short bursts of exercise (cardio, strength training and an ab routine) for 30min - 1hr, 3 or 4 times a week... and guess what!!! It's Working!!!!! I'm getting my 6 pack back and I only have half a pound to go to get to my weight loss goal!!!

I have a great workout video that I use at home and the only thing you need is a set of 5lb dumbells (get them as small as possible otherwise some of the exercises can be akward).  It's from Prevention magazine. Here's the link www.preventionvideos.com ;
It's called the 3-2-1 workout.  I bought my copy on ebay for a little cheaper than you can get it on the website, but it has been awesome!!!

I'm with you again Prospect!  I'm at 110.5lb this morning!  So that's down 1/2lb since Saturday and 3 pounds for September.  I also don't think I will make the 5 pound mark unless I starve myself for the rest of the month.  And I highly doubt that that will happen since it's my Bday on Saturday.  But how cool would it be to reach my goal weight of 110lb on my BDay???!!!!! Well... I guess we'll see.

Hey... After my first child (he is 8 yrs) I dropped all of my pregnancy weight in about 4 weeks and breast fed until he was 10 months.  With my second (she is 14 months old) I breastfed until 7 months and managed to lose all the pregnancy weight except 7 pounds.  I was 118lb when I got pregnant and 125lb when I stopped nursing.  I found it really hard to start losing weight after I was done nursing.  I think because my body got used to being able to eat the extra calories.  When I joined CC In July I was 123lb with a goal weight of 110lb.  I am 111lb today, but it has taken serious discipline and a really strict workout routine. BUT I"M ALMOST THERE!!!! So keep you chin up.  It is possible!!!

I'm with you on that one prospect. I'm up a pound today (112).  Hoping it's just due to the water weight I usually gain at TTOM.  Last month I gained 3 pounds and then dropped 4 overnight.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  I guess I'll find out on Saturday!  Congrats to everyone who lost this week and keep your chin up to everybody like me!!!

HEY!!! 111lb this morning so down a whole 2 and a half pounds this week.  I've been eating crap today tho and it's my nephews birthday party tomorrow so maybe I can bust my butt working out on Monday and Tuesday so I don't have to tell everybody that I gained it all back when I weigh in on Wednesday.  I actually only have one pound to go to get to my goal weight, so technically I'm only really trying to lose 3.5lbs in September.  What the heck... Maybe I'll just go for 5!!!!  I've been doing a lot of weight training so I'll gain it back in muscle.  Congrats to everybody. I think you're all doing great!

Your BMR is the amount of calories that your body burns just being alive with no additional exercise. You're right. Any additional exercise would be added to that.  Say for example that your BMR is 1500 and you do an hour of circuit training burning 400.  That day your body would have burnt 1900 calories.  So, if you are trying to lose weight you want to burn more than you consume.  If you are trying to maintain your weight you need to burn about the same amount that you consume.  To gain weight you need to consume more than you burn.

Hope that helps.

Hi everybody! Hope you all had a great long weekend.

I am 112.5lb this morning, down 1lb.  Don't know how that happened. I didn't stick to my diet all that well, so it has to be all the walking and water that I drank.

Foods Is milk good for you? Aug 30 2007

Milk really is not that good for you.  Despite all the hype it is actually a really poor source of "absorbable" calcium.  It comes from cows!!!! Which means that it was not designed for humans!!!! Milk in moderation is fine, but look for alternate sources of calcium which are much better (ie. fruits and veggies)

Hey Safina,

Are you going to a gym or doing this workout at home?  If you are a member of a gym, they may be able to set you up with a personal trainer or at least someone who can help you set up a good workout routine and show you how to properly do the exercises.

What are you trying to accomplish with your workouts? are you trying to lose weight, tone and sculpt, or bulk up?

If your energy levels are low, what are your dietary habits like? When, what, how (are your meals rushed?) and how much are you eating?  What time of the day do you workout?  What is your sleep pattern like?  All of these can really affect your energy.

Sweetheart... you are underweight.  What I would suggest to you is to see a doctor that specializes in nutrition and natural health (aka Naturopath) You need to be on a healthy diet and exercise routine. You cannot make your body look better just by shedding pounds.  If you work on gaining muscle tone and fitness your body will look better and you will fell better about yourself.  You will gain weight doing this because muscle weighs more than fat, but it looks better.  Naturally if you're starving yourself and mistreating your body it will hate you for it.  Your health will be jeopardized, as well as your appearance.  If you abuse yourself it will show. You will look unhealthy and it ages you!!!!  Someone who treats their body with respect will always look and feel better than someone who doesn't even if they are a few pounds over weight.  Please also look into some help for your self image and confidence.  I am a naturopathic doctor and I would love to help you if you have any questions!
