Is there a reason you can't send it back and get the dress in the size you wanted? It would seem to me that you have the right to have your wedding dress in the size you want not what someone else says.

Let me clarify a few things.

I put this in weight loss (I agree wrongly now) because that's the forum that most people look at.

The title is from a comedy sketch about a woman in everyday life who always asks if her bum looks big in something, when in fact it doesn't.

It wasn't meant to get at anyone, except maybe the woman in the article, as she meant to get to that weight and is very unhealthy.

And to those who keep going on about the 100lbs and being skinny, we all have body issues whether we are very overweight or not. Why should you be allowed to have a go at me over the fact I want to lose weight, but be horrified at the thought of someone having a go at someone very overweight. That's still discrimination.

Thank you for clarifying your intention with your original post. We all make mistakes in this on-line world and I for one appreciate that fact that you acknowledge that the placement of your original post was perhaps not the best choice.

so, uh, who gets to decide who's really here for something positive? you?

Did you miss the part of my post that you quoted that stated "in my opinion"? Just as you have the right to find the asinine acceptable I have the right to say that it should not be accepted as the norm.

EDIT to add: I find it ironic that I've seen a lot of posts that make fun of thinner girls.. like "omg her collar bones show! how disgusting!" okay I'm not gonna go any further. that's a totally different topic.. sorta.

I agree. I find it very interesting that some people here get so pissed off when something is posted about an overweight woman but those same people have no issues with attacking people who are too thin or struggling with eating disorders.
Get rid of the double standard. Stop being a hypocrite.

Alibuch,

I happen to agree with you in the belief that people can be cruel and beyond unkind to those who are underweight or struggling with an ED.

If I see a post like that in a forum that I frequent I would like to believe that I would respond in a reasonable fashion and offer encouragement there as well.

In my opinion, we are here because of various issues that we are looking for help with (the majority of us) or because we have experienced personal success and want to encourage others. Those who are not here for anything positive should not be encouraged or celebrated in any way.

What I found amusing about the article is how much money she makes.

And your posting of that article could be the wake-up call that helps some of those people with ED get over their disorders and start living healthier lives. Or at least that's what it would do for me.

This article is not something that in the normal course of things would have come into my purview. As I stated in my original response, when the thread was posted in the weight loss forum, I came into the thread wanting to encourage someone who may have been down on themselves because of where they are in their fitness journey.

As far as posting a picture of someone who died from anorexia in the ED forum, I would never do such a thing. I can sympathize with their situations, but as I can not empathize I would never do something that could be so potentially harmful.

Some people are hanging by a thread, no matter where they are health wise, and I would hate to be someone who because of my thoughtlessness or sense of superiority did irreparable harm to someone else.

I don't respond to any thread where I don't feel as if I have something valuable to offer.

may I ALSO point out that the reason she "loves herself" may possibly be because she makes money off of her body?

Hmmm if we are to criticize those who make money off of their body and say they love themselves as they are or are seeking to enhance some aspect of their body, this thread would go on ad infinitum as countless sums of money are paid every day for pictures of celebrities, athletes, and the infamous.

Let's look at it from the other end of the spectrum as someone who needs to lose weight to become healthier would it be appropriate for me to post a thread entitled "You can never be too skinny" and a link to an article on someone who has died from anorexia, with pictures, in the ED forum?

Umm.. don't you mean to say "from the other end of the spectrum as someone who needs to GAIN weight", not "lose weight"?

No. I said exactly what I meant.

Let's look at it from the other end of the spectrum,(perhaps the lack of a comma threw you off?) as someone who needs to lose weight (me) to become healthier would it be appropriate for me to post a thread entitled "You can never be too skinny" and a link to an article on someone who has died from anorexia, with pictures, in the ED forum?

The title wasn't an actual question, just a clever little quip that the title of the article could probably have been replaced with, to the entertainment of the girl in question.

If a sentence ends in a question mark those who understand grammar usage in the English language will normally assume a question is being asked.

As far as the OP being amused, the mind boggles at what else she might find amusing enough to post inappropriately.

Ness, you know I think you are smart and all and think you are funny, but with all due respect...

"1. You mentioned that the title of the post upset you. What's so upsetting about the title? It was a catchy title and pretty darn relevant to the subject of the thread."

Ness, it is offensive, because it is not HER bum. She is asking if someone else's rear looks big. It is the equivalent of putting a picture of someone's huge butt on yourself and saying "does my butt look big?"

"2. Yeah, it was posted in the weight loss section. So what? It doesn't mean it was put there to start conflict or hurt people. Heck, for all you know it could have been posted to make people feel better. Maybe a couple of large people were feeling down int he dumps about their size and when they saw that article, they brightened up because they don't look like her. Or it could have been a mistake that she psoted in the weight loss section."

Ness, it is offensive because of the situational irony. The implication is that the woman SHOULD lose weight or alternatively OMG she doesn't care about losing weight even though we all judged her and think she should.

"3. So a bunch of people are disgusted over seeing an extremely large and unattractive person in a thong. Does this shock you?"

Ness, this is offensive because if you replaced "extremely large" with a gender, race or disability word, the parallel would be obvious.

Finally, isn't the OP a troll? Leave jewelsmcblah alone. She has the right to feel whatever about this thread just like everyone else has the right to feel righteous about being thin or "healthy."

Well spoken.

So skinny people have no right to find an interesting article and post it? Serious question.

My question would be what made the article interesting? The OP entitled this post "Does this make my bum look big?" in a weight loss forum. Did they believe it would be interesting to those who are severely overweight?

Perhaps they thought that those dealing with the need to lose large amounts of weight would somehow gain a healthy sense of superiority by thinking "well at least I don't look like that".

Let's look at it from the other end of the spectrum as someone who needs to lose weight to become healthier would it be appropriate for me to post a thread entitled "You can never be too skinny" and a link to an article on someone who has died from anorexia, with pictures, in the ED forum?

This wasn't about someone linking an interesting article. It was a thoughtless and asinine post that was unfortunately approved of by some.

IrishMum I would have thought so too, but when i eat around 1800 etc i dont lose weight

thank you for your replys, i am still confused as too how much to eat. So BigMommah - you recommned eating the same as nonehypos is this correct? May i Enquire as to your daily intake and exercise if i may? thank you ^.^

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to reply.  I average around 1650 calories a day and I burn approximately 1000 a day as my own fitness goal. There are days when I have 3000-4000 calories simply because I am extremely hungry and others where I have to push myself over 1200. I never allow myself to go hungry. If I am hungry then I eat. I try to make food choices that are nutritious and that appeal to my taste buds but I also eat things that make others here on CC shudder.

I noticed that the weight moves more easily when I am doing more than the recommended exercise, hence my working out 7 days a week. I vary my routines and have yet to come to a point where I don't see the benefits. I hope this helps.

First of all congratulations on not knocking her flat with a free weight! =)

I will parrot most of the above posters and say talk to the management if you plan to continue at that gym. I would also caution you about trainers who have a "one size fits all" approach to your training. Just as you would not expect a haute couture gown created for you to fit someone else, a personal trainer should be creating a workout/fitness plan that works for you where you are with an eye to the future. If you've already lost weight and have made forward progress, telling you what you aren't doing is counterproductive to your actually continuing to do what you know and adding additional things that will work in your life.

Congratulations on taking control of your health and fitness and to heck with the tactless personal trainer at your gym.

My emotions are not so directly related to my eating that I feel the need to deprive myself of the things I enjoy so that I can be more comfortable in my own skin.

I loved me at my largest, I love me now, and I will continue to love me when I reach my goal weight. I will also continue to enjoy my creme brulee along the journey.

I admit my weight and my emotions are a little too closely connected, but this is just down to me being a perfectionist. This same "flaw" that makes me crazy sometimes is also what has gotten me flawless grades all my life and probably what got me into med school, so even if it can mess up my self image I have to love my perfectionist tendencies for all the other things they've done for me.

I don't deprive myself by any means, sometimes I feel like doing but I've grown smart enough through experience and foolish mistakes to know it won't do me any good or make me any happier, I eat healthily now and still enjoy my treats, I love food and it's not just fuel to me, it's one of life's pleasures that I enjoy in careful moderation.

I apologize if I hurt your feelings in any way. I see so much self-hatred and low self esteem on CC that I am on a personal mission to remind people that they and I have value where we are right now. The quote that you used as your post's title is one that tends to set my teeth on edge and have me seeing red so I apologize again if you felt that I was trying to detract from all that you've done.

I understand perfectionist tendencies and I am very happy for you and all of your accomplishments.

Gratz on your weight loss.

I have to disagree with your post's title though. Quite frankly even at my goal weight it won't feel as good as creme brulee with fresh raspberries tastes.

I also have not removed any foods/drinks from my diet. I have changed the frequency that I consume certain things at, but I still enjoy fried chicken, mashed taters, gravy, corn w/biscuits and perhaps a glass of lemonade. I may use a 1/2 measuring cup for the taters and only have 1 fried chicken breast but I enjoy them just the same.

She's just excited about reaching her goal. Sheesh!

I don't know if anybody's seen the new VH1 "I love the new millenium" or not, but they were just discussing how ridiculously "fat" Kirstie Alley was at her biggest, and I have to say it's killing my self esteem. "At a whopping two-hundred pounds..." it just makes me feel like I'll never be attractive! I'm 200 pounds myself, and I just want to be healthy and like myself! But apparently, I'll have to be Nicole Richie to reach the latter... god give me a hotdog!

Funkychunk, Your self-esteem belongs to no one but you. You have the power to change how you view yourself. No matter where you are right you are a beautiful person of worth who needs to see herself as wonderful where she is right now.

No one else's weight should matter in how you see yourself. No comparative viewpoint should ever have as much consequence as your own when it comes to what is attractive about you and to you.

Please take a moment to give yourself a hug and some love and then keep going towards being the healthiest you, you can achieve regardless of weight or size.

What makes you all motivated to keep going? Need to loose as much as I can in three months in order to show the Dr. I'm serious about loosing weight.

Any input welcome.

Nan,

I developed Type II diabetes which my doctor told me was in the early stages and could be "reversed" meaning that I wouldn't have to take Metformin any more. She also told me that it was a progressive disease and that if I didn't take care of it, it would only get worse. The thought of going blind, or losing a limb was extremely scary as well as shortening my lifespan and quality of life.

It took 1 year and 1 month but I am free. I will never again allow myself to be in a place where I have to be a slave to more medication. I hope that this is helpful for you.
