Foods Friday night pizza substitute? Mar 20 2009

I'm going to hunt for new sauce and try a spinach, artichoke, and mushroom for tonight! Thanks everyone. Found a recipe online for a lowsalt crust that doesn't look too time consuming, so I'll give that a go. Just found out the Boboli crust has 200 something mg per slice. :(

Have a good weekend everyone.

Yep, that and the cheese and olives if I used them..you know all the things that make it yummy. Frown I have very tasty Malaysian pizza recipe, but the amount of soy sauce in it takes it off my list. Even with low-sodium soy sauce. Oh well. I have a Greek pizza recipe that's relatively low sodium. I guess I'm worried that I'll fall back on the old stand-by recipes in a moment of weakness. I was thinking if I came up with a pizza substitute that would be safer for me.

A small can of tomato sauce is almost the only canned item I use in a week, so it's not the cause of my problem, but it is a contributer. I really try to stay away from processed foods. After reading lots of labels in the last few days, I'm shocked at how much salt is in what I thought were safe, healthy foods. Mustard and Ketchup! (well, I know Ketchup isn't healthy, but I thought it was all the sugar in it that was the problem) Who knew? Canned tomato products were a real surprise to me. Also didn't know dairy products and bread had so much sodium in them. Live and learn.

Thanks for the margharita pizza idea. Think I'll save that for summer when things are fresh though. Then it will be tasty!

Thanks for all the pizza tips everyone. Maybe I'll give pizza one more go with the no-salt tomato paste. I had been using a small can of sauce and adding spices. I wasn't aware of no-salt paste before. I'll look at that and try a bit of parmesan for the cheese and see how we like that. Not so much interested in stir-fry or curry as I make those things the other days of the week. Fridays are fun quick, simple, and indulgent...a bit anyway.

Well, finally checking in again. Went out of town Friday-Sunday (Cape Cod! 1st time--fun, fun). We walked all over the place but not "for excercise." I'm hoping it counts because that's all I had in me. Took yesterday off. Back to walking again today.

Welcome to the challenge, Di. Never heard of Zumba so had to look it up. Looks like fun but it's probably been 20 years since I've done any kind of dance aerobics. Too advanced for beginners or do-able? You do MUCH more than I do workout wise. I'm trying to be good by walking at least 30 minutes every day!

My apologies for not checking in since sometime last week. I've been very well-behaved and walked every weekday-my 2 miles and did even did 3 on Saturday and Monday. Yippie. Why do I always forget how good I feel when I keep moving? Picking up my stride again and feeling strong. :) Keep moving everybody!

Well, I crippled myself over the weekend by gardening for 9 hours on Saturday--9 hours of squats! Legs were pretty much seized up Sunday and Monday. Did walk today but only 1 moderate mile. I'll be back on course tomorrow!

Walked my 2 miles each day this week, but yesterday. Seems like I walked 2 miles at Costco. Does that count? :) I'll make up for my lapse over the weekend! I'm planning on doing my 2 today when I get home. No ice cream at the end, but maybe a frozen banana (no chocolate on it--I break a ripe banana in half and throw it in a freezer bag for a ice cream substitute). Have a good weekend everyone. Keep moving!

Sodium was 1800 average. :)

Starting and end weight the same...154. :(

Half a frozen banana for dessert. Gives you a sort-of ice cream feel but it's good for you. Whenever my bananas get to ripe i peel them, break them in half, put them in a freezer bag, and freeze. Instant dessert. Frozen grapes are a yummy, low-cal treat, too.

Well, I have nowhere to go but up. Only did 1 of my 2 miles on Friday because I had to work later than expected and just ran out of day. Gone all weekend to Vermont (28th anniversary trip!) and it was raining there so no walking except a museum, antique stores and an arts & craft fair. I did wear my pedometer put it only had 1100 steps the first day and 1400 the next. I think I accidentally hit the reset button occassionally. Oh well. 2 miles a day this week minimum without fail!  Good job figurethefat on getting so far along on your goal already!

Was very well-behaved yesterday--my first day. Did my 2 miles. Will do that again today. Going out of town for the weekend, so will have to see what I can do...does standing and walking around a giant craft fair count? :)

I'd like to join in the fun. I'm a walker. Used to be really regular about it...2-3 miles a day, but this year it's been really spotty--and more nothing than 2-3 miles--and it's showing in my waistline and blood pressure. Need to get a grip. So....here we go! I'm going to go for 2 miles a day to start. Sorry can't think in K's.

Yep, this week wasn't good. Gained half a pound. had a big out-of-town b-day celebration and house guests this week that interfered with exercise. Glad I didn't do worse than I did. I wanted to lose 6 pounds in August and only lost 5. Have to buckle down in September. Good luck all!

Well, I did well exercising so far this week and keeping my calories in check. Lost a whopping half pound. Oooooo. Better than gaining it, I suppose. Leaving for a weekend out of town today at noon and plan to enjoy myself so I don't have many hopes of keeping it at 1300 calories per day, but I'm going to do my best NOT to go hog while. Oink! Next weeks goal--three miles per day!

Well, I was an abysmal failure with my Total Gym goal last week. Didn't even touch it. My motivation/determination seems to have slacked off, so I'm going to go back to basics, this week I'm keeping my calories in line and walking every day. Not much action on the old message board, so I guess most of us are having motivational problems. Come on gang!

OK, my goal this week is to get on my Total Gym 3 times and walk 4 times. Was going to today, but I overdid my walk yesterday in hilly territory and my shin splints won't let me move today. Tomorrow though, I'm back.

nreid...welcome.

Excellent on the Pilates, Tania! Know what you mean about the ow!

It is rather shocking how many calories some things have. I looked at a package of fried calamari at the market and it was something like 400 calories for a serving and a serving was only 10 pieces. Who eats only 10 pieces? And that didn't include any sauce! Glad it's not something I've been eating routinely. Keep track and doing the math is the way to go. Down 25 since May, Olivia? That's awesome!!!!

Did my one mile walk yesterday and burned off 4 times the calories housecleaning afterwards! Who knew?  This is my first week and I'm down 4 pounds--too much but I think it's just that honeymoon week thing. Next week I'm sure the honeymoon will be over.
