Vegetarian Fish Eating "Vegetarians" Feb 26 2008

I completely agree with tinabear-I do not consider myself a true vegetarian--know I only eat fish and chicken but avoid other types of meat. But it is somewhat of an insult or something to "true" vegetarians when I simply say I don't eat meat (I mean red meat)--no one is more high or mighty than the other--it shouldn't be about labels, it's all what you believe in or your own dietary concerns. We shouldn't judge people what they think--but maybe point out your opinion or the true definition of a vegetarian.

i'm definitely going to ask a/b a lot of these things--mindaylynn--Is it too much to ask but if you have PCOS aren't you not able to have children? I know I shouldn't think ahead but now I'm looking up symptoms and I have SO many!!! I've had darker patches of skin on my neck on and off since I was 15 but we thought it was just wierd tanning:P, BAD back pain, and lots of bloating. ohhh...ahhh not believing anything until I get checked out but it's very frustrating to not feel fully like a woman and kind of scary.

I know--I finally have an appt with the gyno in a few weeks to figure this out...what bothers me is that whenever I've mentioned it to practitioners in the past is they usually simply suggest birth control-I think that's a great option to decrease the chance of bone loss but it would kind of anger me b/c I dont feel that "fixes" the real problem--I want to have kids someday....NOT today haha but someday. haha luckily I am fully a female...I had that already ruled out a little over a year ago but yea, they kept saying maybe I was starting REALLY late or not eating enough but now I'm just confused. Thanks for all your insights!

this is a deliciously great and horrible thread! haha But, in a way it reminds me of what I should indulge in more often when I allow myself to get too strict!

Breakfast: IHOP (OHHHHH) pancakes with no butter, just plain ol' maple syrup, with scrambled eggs on wheat toast-a side of black coffee

Lunch-hmmm...haha probably still what I have now! Panera Grilled Asian Chicken salad! Not bad when our taste buds adapt:)....well...add in a bowl of Panera's chicken n' wild rice soup with a GIANT oatmeal cookie and we're gooooood

Dinner: Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich with a vanilla frosty and fries---OR those cream cheese filled wontons from a chinese restaurant OMG

dessert: caramel frappicino and a hot fudge sundae w/ extra fudge!

we always thought it was that I was too thin or too active---the thing is I have an older sister (just had a baby!) who's 5'2 and can't be more than a 100 pounds. She's always had regular periods and my little sister got hers when she was 14 and was much thinner than than I am. Do you think it could simply be a matter of too little calories in vs. out? I'm on a reasonable meal plan (not for an ED, but to help fuel my running) so I don't count calories only try to get in all the nutrients. I was 125 pounds for a/b a year but, given I was really struggling withd epression and when I got that under control I just stabilized around 120 again.

-guacamole (GAG) -milk by itself -golden raisins! EWWW--they should be purple!

Weight Loss 10 pounds=1 dress size?? Feb 20 2008

height is DEF a factor I think in this one---I know I put on a good 15 pounds when I went off to school--all my pants were pretty tight but to the average person they couldn't tell. I'm 5'7 and I've found that I would have to put on more or lose more than 10 pounds to gain/lose a size--most of my girlfriends are under 5'3 and they lose a dress size in sometimes less than 10 pounds--IF they're gaining muscle--that's a huge difference.

omg-hands down PANERA--the asian chicken salad!!! I ate it all the time and order it w/o the wonton strips--I found out even w/ the regular dressing (which is apparently lower-sugar) the full size was less than 350 cals! It's Delisshhhhhhh-It's really putting a dent in my waller tho:P

wo! I did a post a/b my change to cut out dairy (i only eat fish too!) a little over a week ago after I noticed how different I felt! I was never a huge fan of milk so it was pretty easy for me-but yes, the challenge is to get enough calcium and while it's pretty easy to get protein in the rest of the American diet, meat obviously it a big part and I don't want mercury poisoning from eating yummy tuna sandwiches every day! here's what I really on:)

-yup, soymilk is the best (silk, unsweetened-AMAZING on cereal)

-I think it's 'Silk' that also sells Soy yogurts, very tasty -i'm eating a Muncheeze (veggie cheese) right now! haha so good!(get them at all Lakewinds or Whole Foods health stores) -Total/Total Raisin Bran are still great main brand name cereals w/ a TON of vitamins -I buy frozen spinach-still a lot of nutrients, cheaper, and easier! -i make breakfast/snack shakes with soymilk, fruit, and soy protein powder(tastes way better than whey i think) -ANY of the Amy's vegetarian rice bowls, they are little pricey but all natural and deliiiiicious -any Boca products, esp the burgers, chicken patties, and the meatless chili!

Hope those help!

i know a lot of people might fight me on this one (everyone's different)...but I've realized that I control my bingeing better on days when I eat my lightest breakfast choice and then just a little snack or latte (it's great in the morning to help you waaake up!) an hour or so later. Lately a piece of fruit, usually an apple, and a carton of the Fage Greek yogurt really tides me over! Then I still get my iced coffee with soy on the road and it all adds up to about 200 cals! Like i said, on the light side but you could always add an english muffin:)

I love fruits and veggies, but I know that if my body isnt being fed enough there's no fiber or enough water in the world that will keep me full. These little meals throughout the day are exactly what I eat and help!

-Fage 0% or low-fat Greek yogurt w/ cup of Kashi -piece of fruit and soy cheese -eating eggs or egg beaters at breakfast (science shows it keeps hunger at bay:)-plus regular eggs geta bad rap! -I'm w/ another post on a post-dinner diet soda if you need it, I don't like to drink soda cuz it makes me bloated but it would stave off a craving -Lara natural bar (or maybe a luna bar?) w/ an iced coffee w/ soy -a Kemps ice cream pop(only 50 cals for reg ice cream!) and some cheerios before bed

These help for me!

i had actually posted a forum a little over a week ago concerning my difficulty w/ my new meds (Zoloft). I met w/ my doctor and we decided to cut back to 50 mg (down from 100). WO-What an IMMEDIATE difference! I thought more medicine (for me) would make me feel better but it only made me feel worse! I felt a difference overnight! It doesn't make me feel like I'm in an emotional high and I don't get sleepy-it just keeps me emotionally stable and functioning like my usual self! I recommend it---ask your doc tho like everyone says:) It's the third med I've tried and so far so good!
Weight Loss 5' 7" Weigh In (Lose 10 pounds) Jan 29 2008

my thing is if I can get the bingeing under control, I know I can get back to my usual weight of around 116 pounds. I started at 127 when I came home and I don't keep scales....but I got back into my old jeans so I'm guess I'm at 119-120!!! VERY exciting! Still, it's a huge setback when I binge:( I'd rather be 127 and not bingeing then 116 and bingeing---I make the physical-mental connection that's so hard for my mom to undetsrand...today nooooot going so well haha but I can do this right!?!? Sometimes those last couple pounds feel like so much!

I find that while they're great calorie wise--they are so high in sodium and don't really fill you up. I HIGHLY recommend checking out a health foods store and grabbing some Amy's Organic meals---all whole ingrediants, lots of veggies, brown rice and most importantly delicious!

eeek that must be SO frustrating! First, keep reminding yourseld that you are eating healthy and NOT dieting--Which you did say so good job! haha I may be alone on this but if you find yourself compromising sleep for exercise--try the sleep for a while. After a week or so you'll have more energy during everyday activities and your metabolism will feel better to work out too. While I don't recommend low carb, if you aren't see a difference you could BRIEFLY aim for less bread and more protein but start to incorporate whole grains again. Drink coffee in between meals (it doesn't speed weight loss but it does keep you awake!). Also cut way back on sodium--those should help! Keep up your good work! It will happen:) ALSO-keep a journal--make sure you're 100% accurate on calories

I've struggled with bingeing since I started my freshman year of college-I'm 19 now. I would LOVE to have this support group! I've been having a GREAT week-I find that actually counting calories to REACH maintenance makes it incredibly WAY easier to ward off binges! I've been buying single serving packs of almond M&ms(my trigger...) and tell my mom to keep the rest of them in her car! haha I'm not THAT desperate but I'm telling you it works! Every day I nibble on a bag and you'll realize how much you were probably bingeing on before! But you realize how much you don't actually crave it! Omg you guys I have soooo many tips you have no idea. I was at my darkest place about 3 months ago---I was alone in my apartment...I was bingeing nonstop--I put on a/b 10 pounds in a little over a month-I stopped going to class and admitted myself to a day program for eating disorders. It has helped immensely! so pleeeease feel free to ask for support too!

Health & Support how I got my period back... Jan 27 2008

Wo! I wish I would have found this forum earlier...I haven't had a period (w/o Birthcontrol on and off) for about 2 1/2 years. In fact, I've only had ONE, yes ONE period EVER and I didn't start until the day of my 17th birthday (crazy huh?). Doctors always said they weren't concerned b/c it was pretty normal for active/thin/lean teens to start late. But after that one that was already at such a late age, that was it. At first it's like GREAT-no periods! I know it's dangerous for the bones, but what I care most a/b is the fertility. How does that effect me? Ive been tested...down there...and I'm now 10 pounds heavier than I was in high school (5'7 116-120 pounds) and I'm sure I get around 1600-2000 calories a day (i'm struggling w/ bingeing so sometimes it's a lot more). HOWEVER, I know that I tend to eat a very safe diet on the "good" days, very low fat. Does anyone have any suggestions? I mean, I'm thin but not too thin and healthy. If I don't get it-do I really need to go on the pill?

omg I want in! The only reason I started coming on this site was to look for inspiration (and distraction..) to avoid bingeing and emotional eating. I'm 19, struggle with a cycle of depression and overeating or doing better and therefore better nutrition! I would love support and def can encourage other peoples in the group-this will be our support line!
