| Young Calorie Counters | Girls: How Much Do You Eat at Dinner? | Sep 30 2008 21:26 (UTC) |

| My goal is 1400 a day, but some days i eat about 50 or 100 over because im bad like that.
I'm only trying to lose 5 lbs max, so i figure i can be lenient! (lol) I eat from 250-500 at breakfast (No Kidding!!). Lol. Mostly I try and have 300-350 and make sure it's filling (For example, mixing bran cereal and oats.) The days i eat 500, im usually not satisfied, lol, cuz i eat cereal, then want toast, so it adds up. I usually have a sandwich (300ish) or salad (150-200ish). So I can eat a good snack later, around 200-250 cals. Dinner ranges. I try and eat around 400-500 in one meal, and have a snack later because it doesn't bloat me so much. |

| Weight Loss | whats your FAVORITE exercise? | Sep 28 2008 21:28 (UTC) |

| I've finally gotten into running - it took me aggges to appreciate super-sweaty, agonizing, cramps in the side, after the 1st ten minutes TORTURE but now i can run enjoyably for 45 mins. I stop to catch my breath if necessary but basically thats it!
I also like lighter exercise like dance and walking. Cycling and swimming is very enjoyable - i love coming out of a swim feeling really hungry and sleepy, it's a 'cosy' feeling once you've swam and eaten! |

| Chew sugar free gum topped off with diet coke. It really "fills you up" - the combo of bubbles and chewing makes it seem like you're eating. Also, if you get a good flavour gum (i.e. vanilla and mint or strawberry/lime) then it compliments the coke.
Just a little weird bit of advice. usually works for me... :) |

| Ooh i have a weird thing which i really like at lunch, and its very filling. It's like, two egg whites, scrambled or made like an 'omlette' in a pan with a small amount of butter, then in a toasted pitta with vegetables and whatever sauce you like (i like ketchup :). It's "weird" and can sometimes be a little gross, but on the whole it's satisfyingly tasty enough :) maybe to make it tastier one could use one whole egg with a white...but i dont like yolks much | |||

| sorry - my last post was a bit confusing - let's rephrase that...
Should I just assume a "sedentary/lightly active" lifestyle on the days i don't exercise? Or does it mean all week i am "moderately active" because of the exercise in total? |

| thanks
but still a bit confused..sorry. I think my daily requirements should be around 2000,to maintain(since i am apparently still growing :S) but its not essential right now to lose weight, maybe a couplr pounds. But i just wondered - on these online calculators how do you know what your fitness is like? I mean, I do exercise, but oher than tht, i don't have an active job or anything...sometimes it says i need 2000 sometimes 1700.... |

at least you were reading, not watching the tv :) |

| Foods | Doritos are the DEVIL! | Aug 31 2008 15:25 (UTC) |

| Yeah, doritos REALLY are the devil...i avoid big packs of them like the plague, because as soon as i put one in my mouth i take another. Then two. Then a handful...lol
but, yeah, i think cheesy rice cakes (or salt n vingear) are delicious, and more filling, but i can get weird looks if i take those to the cinema. I take indivual bags of crisps to the cinema - ones that are about 200 calories so you know what you're eating. Also, if you share that, it's like what, 100 calories?? It's so weird, i know exactly how you feel - sometimes ive eaten so much without meaning to and not even eating that much food, just calories! At least feeling 'gross' makes you realise healthy food actually tastes much better! |

| Foods | Rasin bran | Aug 31 2008 14:49 (UTC) |

| bran by itself is ok...
raisins by themselves are ok... but together, they make the most satisfying combo of crunch and chew!! ...and just pour on ice cold milk...as my sister says, an avid fan of raisin bran. Except we actually call it sultana bran. |

| Foods | Food Creation Survey | Aug 29 2008 11:35 (UTC) |

| Since I love a good food survey, here is one I have created that you can have some creative fun with :)
1. CEREAL FLAVOUR: honey nut, peanut butter, chocolate and marshmallow conflakes 2. NEAPOLITAN FLAVOR: sugar free FUDGE (hell, make ALL ice cream sugar free!) 3. BURGER/SANWICH: grilled chicken with extra light soft cheese, light melted cheese, lettuce, sun dried tomatoes, caramelised onions, grilled peppers in that doughy, dense bread (i dont remember what its called but it is Heaven) 4. Grape coke 5. NO KETCHUP? okay, no point. 6. okay, my definition of jelly is JELL-O: okay a 'cocktail' jelly, like malibu, melon liquer, mango 'schnapps' stirred with pineapple juice and with maraschino cherries, chunks of banana, mango and strawberries. All 'jellied'!! that would make some AWESOME jelly (jell-O) 7. Create a non-traditional pizza: pan base with marinara, mozzarella, parmesan, lots of ham and sundried tomato, peppers and mushrooms and asparus grilled with olive oil and olives. 8. VEGETABLE CHIP: okay, these actually exist! Parsnip, carrot, and beetroot. They are so delicious. I want them to make savoury/sweet apple chips! 9. ETHNIC FOODS: basically just ALL the diet foods/confectionary available in the USA 10. You having a granole/snack bar what be your dream nutritional and ingredient makeup (ie: 10 grams fiber, 500mg calcium, flax seed and blueberries) WEIGHT: 100g, per bar; kcal 100, protein 13grams, 15grams fiber (protein and fiber is all i really care about, i get my vitamins from fruit) INGREDIENTS: blueberries (lol), raisins, sunflower seeds, peanut butter, chocolate fuge, rice krispies, oatflakes, maraschino cherries.... |

| Young Calorie Counters | should i eat when im hungry when the meal is premature?? | Aug 25 2008 23:49 (UTC) |
9 |
| Errmm...I don't know if my opinion is the best because im not like, an adult or nutrtitionist, but from general experience, I think it's best to eat something rather than nothing if you're hungry.
Like if I've had breakfast a big bowl of cereal and i get hungry an hour later i'll eat toast - and if it's a lot of calories it doesn't matter because I'm sustaining the hunger and i know I won't be left dissatisfied... anyay, 2400 cals is a lot, so you should easily be able to eat what you like in that. |

| Foods | How many bananas a day is too many? | Aug 21 2008 10:55 (UTC) |
1 |
| I don't think bananas will kill you! Bananas apparently also trigger the 'happy' feeling in your brain, and while they are more calorific than some fruits they're a really good pre/post-exercise boost.
However, I think they only count as one piece of fruit no matter how many bananas you have. If you eat five bananas a day, it's not reaching your five-a-day, you have to eat other fruit like apples, peaches, kiwis...and veggies..thats what i heard anyways... While we're on the topic of 'too much', is tuna really that bad? I heard that too much tuna can lead to mercury poisoning...not that i eat loads of tuna... |
