| It only gives you diarrhea if you don't follow the directions. With all due respect to those who posted, I have been using Alli since July 4th. I have lost 75 pounds. I am certain I would have lost weight without it, but I am sure not as much. Read about it, and check out the forums in the Alli website. With Alli, you do lose weight naturally (watching calories and fat and exercizing) but because it blocks some fat you lose more weight quicker. According to the directions, if you would have lost 10 pounds through diet and exercize alone, you will instead lose 15. And, I have very rarely ever had a treatment effect (oily stools, diarrhea). You only get those if you don't follow the directions. | |||

I'm with Nomo. The reason I replied was the Pink Floyd reference. So since she stole my lyrics...here's another brick in the wall, part two! And always remember: if you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding!!! (which explains why I NEVER get pudding!) We dont need no education. |

Broncos fan here, though they really are not very good this year...I'm gonna stick with them though. I hate fair-weather band-wagon fans. Funny you mention the longhorns. So there's this person where I work who is from Texas. One day she left her e-mail open so I sent a jokme e-mail from her box saying how much better Texas is than anywhere else, don't mess with Texas, etc. I sent it to everyone at work...so it was funny. You had to be there. So two days ago I left my e-mail open by mistake, and low and behold appeared a message from me to everyone saying how much I loved the Longhorns. And here I thought she was an Aggies fan!!! |

Happy veg life for me is... Knowing I'm not eating an animal. The thought that one more animal may live if I eat that veggie burger. Eating at Sweet Tomatoes with all those cool choices! Knowing I have heart disease that runs in my family and I'm doing all I can to avoid it. Setting a good example for my family and friends. Walking the walk when it comes to my beliefs instead of just talking the talk. |

What did you hate about the UK? I've never been there, but I can imagine the fish out of water thing may be tough. The taxes are high from what I hear, but healthcare is free. And the tea and bisquits must be good, cuz they all talk about it! |

I understand the pride involved. I guess it's even better he didn't get hurt. Hopefully, they both can learn from this. You sound like a good brother. Hope your advice hits home for him. Good luck! |

You know the internet thing...that's a problem for me. On the one hand, it's this huge community connecting people, but on the other it separates real interaction between real people. It also gives us the chance to be someone we are not, with no consequences. I love the fact I have met so many cool people here, but I am under no illusions about the "realness" of the people here. I know some are real, some are not. That being said, like any tool, it is best when used properly. When overused or abused, it can be a dangerous vice. WHich reminds me, I need to go exercize. |

So.... To me violence is never the answer. Personally, I can find no pride in the act of hurting someone else, no matter how much it may be that he is perceived to have deserved it. Be understanding and non-judgemental, but do not celebrate his act of violence. This is definately not something to be celebrated. |

So maybe the need is for a true counter-culture. Our culture as it stands today is materialistic. It lives for today, which is good, but at what cost? We have checked-out, to a flaw. We are overly nationalistic, instead of community-centered. We wave the flag and thumb our noses at anything that doesn't conform to the accepted norms. We build fences to keep out our neighbors. We don't get to know them for fear of making friends that will keep us from our TV sets. We eat pre-packaged, processed foods that keep us fat and dumb. We eat these things, even though corporate media tells us to be fat is to be ugly. Corporate media also tells us how yummy these things are, so we keep eating them. We pack these things with sugars and salts to make them good. Food is the new opiate of the masses. We allow all of these distractions to keep our eyes off the world today. There is more suffering going on and we allow it because it's not in our backyards kept out by our strong fences. We trust our leaders to sacrifice our young people because they say it's right, even though we are not asked to sacrifice ourselves. ANd all this happens while the Democrats become the new Republicans, but without a spine. They are taking more corporate donations this cycle than the Republicans in the last cycle. They are delaying or not supporting legislation to help the poor and the weak to not anger our corporate donors. If ever there was a time for the left to unite it is today. In America, the poor get poorer, we don't have healthcare for everyone, and homelessness is a real problem. In other areas of the world it is worse. The third-world gets poorer while they are exploited by their leaders and their religions. Military juntas suppress monks and we sit and do nothing. We are numb to it. We allow our military to go to war for oil under the guise of 9/11 and we are numb to it. And by the way, except for some alternative music, the music sucks! :O) |

| I think of a hippie as someone who is tolerant, watchful of the environment, peaceful, and a part of the community. Someone who loves for loves sake (sounds cliche but I think it's a value that we need more of these days). Someone who only hates war and intolerance. I wonder if there are any other definitions out there, but because of my tolerant nature, I accept everyone anyway so definitions probably are meaningless :) | |||

So here would be my three non-English speaking: India because I have been studying Hindu Dharma. And because I want a job at a call center. Burma. I know the violence there now but the land is beautiful, the people are spiritual, and they really seem to value peace and democracy. If you got rid of the military junta, what a great place. Nepal. Again, the Hindu thing, but also I'm from Colorado and living near the tallest mountains in the world are appealing. As I get in shape one of my goals is to try rock climbing. |

So nomorexcuses...how does it change? Liberals as a general rule like to fight amongst themselves more than fight the establishment. Look at the way we critisize Al Gore for not being a vegetarian rather than praising what he has done and taking on the polluters of the world, for example. There must be a way to unite the cause and get people focused. The other issue is the corporate media is either lazy or complicit in supporting the right-wing agenda. Without people paying attention they listen to the pundits (the Ann Coulters, Rush Limbaughs, etc.) who lie and distort and echo right-wing talking points. It seems the only real reporting we get these days is on the Daily Show. That's why we need a real counter-culture movement, but we don't get one for some reason. The culture we have now is so materialistic and nationalistic that it really gets under the skin. Where is Uncle John's band when you need him? :) |

| You know...we all learned so much since the 60's. People didn't realize the drugs could kill you, and in the end the sex could as well. :( I like the trend towards natural things, vegetarianism and environmentalism. We need a real peace movement again. | |||

I love cereal...it's a big way I've lost weight: 2 cups Whole Wheat Total (about 283 calories, almost no fat and lots of vitamins) about 8 ozs of fat-free skim milk a nice cup of Tazo Awake tea. an apple or a banana. After that, I am good until lunch! |

ROCKTOBER CONTINUES!!! The Rockies are in the World Series! Congrats to the D-Backs for a great year; nobody expected you to get this far. It was awesome watching Todd Helton get that last out; almost brought a tear to the eye his interview after the game. This guy waited forever to get to the post season and now he's in the Series. Sweet!!! |

| The Lounge | Dog question........ | Oct 16 2007 06:02 (UTC) |

So here's my twp cents... Dogs that cost that kind of money run the risk of coming from "puppy mills." Theses places force dogs to breed pure-bred dogs for profit and have conditions that rival those suffered by animals bred for food or for fighting. Many are in-bred so bad that they have genetic disorders and illnesses that are not apparant when you first buy them. Puppy mills are very overt forms of animal cruelty that many people are unaware of. They are used even by the most reputable pet dealers. That being said, there are so many animals in shelters and the Humane Society that need homes. These animals are kept for short periods of time then destroyed if nobody adopts them. I say: no to puppy mills and yes to adoption of abondoned animals. You can find a small adorable animal right at your local humane society. And please, spay or nueter it when you adopt. That being said, the puppy in your pic is very cute! Jed |

Is jump roping as good an exercise as running?
In terms of calorie burning, moderate jumping is about equal to running a 10-minute mile, although calorie burning is always a function of time... Read more
