| Health & Support | Confirming the birth control Yasmin/hair loss connection | Jun 09 2009 23:46 (UTC) |

Well, of course it's not a necessary consequence of taking the pill. Obviously all the side effects affect people differently and some people feel no effects at all. But many people experience hair loss on the pill and are skeptical whether the connection really exists. So I think my "discovery" can be helpful for those of us searching for answers. |

| Foods | online grocery shopping? what do you buy? | May 22 2009 04:37 (UTC) |

i just did it for my first time last week. it was slightly cheaper i believe. we got breads, deli meats/cheeses (they had a little special), milk, yogurt, some produce (but we buy most on the street - it's cheap in NYC), oatmeal/cereal, bagels and cream cheese etc. very convenient for sure!! |

| Health & Support | Another hair loss question. Help!! | May 21 2009 22:57 (UTC) |

I got off it because birth control does in fact cause hair loss and if you look it up online there are tons and tons of people with similar problems. Not to mention, the pill makes me extremely fatigued, depressed, and gloomy. Especially now that the hair loss has restarted exactly 6 weeks after starting makes me pretty confident Yasmin is the problem. I got back on it because I am having sex consistently and would like to be protected. |

| Health & Support | Another hair loss question. Help!! | May 21 2009 16:34 (UTC) |

It is very diffuse ... I am just losing it everywhere and so much that I can see most parts of my scalp when my hair is wet. I wouldn't say I'm losing it much more on one part of my head than in the other... but maybe mostly on the back, come to think of it. I just re-started birth control after about 6 months of not being on it, and the hair loss seems to have been re-started as well. So B/C probably is the culprit. Pretty unsettling. |

I think if you order just "iced coffee" and don't specify anything they assume cream and sugar. I've once ordered it black with no sugar and still got it with cream and sugar. Dumb, but it's just their standard. |

| Weight Loss | Vacation coming up – help! | May 12 2009 17:41 (UTC) |

i live in new york and keeping the weight off is easy. granted, you'll do a lot more eating and drinking here than the normal place since the temptation is EVERYWHERE... but it's pretty ridiculous how many calories you burn on a daily basis. if you're on vacation it will be super easy... you're going to want to walk everywhere (especially because the weather is PERFECT right now) so if you can generally pick healthy meals you'll be fine. if you want to go running, the entire west side is a running/biking path. also, if you're up for it, you can run the entire west/south/east border of manhattan. the whole thing is a giant running path and you'll see plenty of big sites (world trade cetner, jersey shore, battery park, williamsburg/brooklyn/manhattan bridge) along the way! |

PS I'm not saying you should not give blood for dieting purposes. One day of sacrifice is totally worth saving lives. |

Hey there. I just gave blood on Friday for the first time and it went pretty well. I think you'll still be qualified given all those circumstances. The only thing you might want to consider (it's pretty silly) is that they kinda ask you to eat a lot so as to maintain your blood sugar. I told the doctor what I had for breakfast (it was a 300 calorie breakfast) and he said "Go have some cookies, and have a hearty lunch." So it's kinda gotta be a cheat day. But you'll want to eat a lot cuz you'll be pretty tired after anyway! Best of luck. |

| Health & Support | What is going on with my period? | May 27 2008 01:42 (UTC) |

I'm pretty positive I do. I put olive oil on/into a lot of what I eat and I have dessert every day (lots and lots of ice cream). I eat a good amount of cheese / low fat dairy products as well. I guess it's just calories overall... I hope my body figures out what's going on soon. |

| Julia - Thank you for the response. I was taking that into consideration, though I really don't think it would make much sense. I haven't exactly measured my body fat lately but I'm a tiny but under 5'4" and weigh anywhere from 126-128 pounds. I'm pretty muscular, but I can definitely still find plenty of body fat to go around. Haha. Thanks for your advice though, I think I'll re-stock on my multi vitamins. | |||

| not to be racist at ALL, but how do chinese people stay so thin if their foods really pack this many calories? i'm legitimately curious. i assume our chinese restaurants are americanized and much more fattening than the true chinese dishes? or do they not eat this kind of food on a regular basis? or is it just more activity? | |||

| Maybe that's it, but my point was kind of that it seems like for a lot of people, cutting calories is too easy; one of the harder parts is making sure you're eating enough. | |||

| North of San Francisco over here (hi East bay!!). Not gonna lie - when it comes to health/health foods, I think I might live in the most privaleged part of the WORLD. My county has more organic, raw, vegan, fresh, delicious produce/foods/meats than you can believe. If you pass through the Bay Area - go to a restaurant called Cafe Gratitude (there are a few locations in/around SF) - it's a DELICIOUS vegan restaurant that makes things like burgers, enchiladas, cheesecakes, etc. ALL out of fruits, nuts, vegetables, sprouts, etc. | |||
| Health & Support | Ive lost some weight, AND MY PERIOD!? | Dec 10 2007 01:50 (UTC) |

| Yeah. I haven't had mine since I began using this website actively. I eat enough calories... I think it may be fat content, because I really cut down on that a lot. I visited my doctor and he didn't appear to be too concerned about it, just told me to try to add some nuts and peanut butter here and there. I think the loss of period is natural for weight loss and calorie restriction. | |||

| I've actually found that since I've developed little ways of tricking myself with low-calorie things, I don't crave the other stuff as much anymore. Here are my two recent favorites: -Pretending nonfat Greek yogurt (80 cals) is cheesecake is my life. Haha. I add stuff to it, like vanilla syrup (see below) and berries. I would choose it over cheesecake now, too, (and i LOVE cheesecake) just because it's so much healthier. -I JUST discovered the beauty in Torani sugar-free syrups (splenda, I know, ew, but I'm over it) and I've been adding them to everything. I got vanilla and chocolate - work in yogurt, carbonated water (create soda basically) coffee, tea, you name it... |

| Weight Loss | The NATURAL eating challenge! | Nov 30 2007 05:45 (UTC) |

| I basically eat this way too. I'm fortunate in that my family only buys foods from Whole Foods and local farmers markets so we never have anything processed in the house. I still count because as wonderful and healthy as natural foods are, they can still be pretty calorie dense (bananas, peanut butter, any types of nuts, avocados, even little things like grapes and cherry tomatos add up). I definitely wish it were possible to eat these kinda things in unlimited quantities... but yesterday I almost went over my limit because I snacked on 3 apples, a banana, and a pomegranate throughout the day... |
