Favorite movie: possibly the graduate. or weekend, maybe. cries and whispers? yeah, i don't know. Siblings? If so, how many? none How many parents live at home? two Favorite class at school? ap lit...film aesthetics...precalc (when i was taking it, two years ago) Pet peeve[s]? people not having any pride, being too literal, lack of subtlety Why are you on CC? mostly to keep track of things like my sodium intake (i had a major sodium deficiency last summer so) and to force myself to track so i won't be so tempted to binge...i guess to lose a little too Favorite book? lately, ernest hemingway's the sun also rises. Do you have any allergies? yes, pollen and amoxicillin If you could eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be? this is hard, maybe crepes? dark chocolate? Do you have a BF/GF? yes. he is the nicest. Do you play an instrument? i thought for years that i wanted to play various instruments, so i've taken classes for harp, piano, violin, flute, drums, and bass. i finally realized that while i can pick up the technical stuff (making a nice sound come out) easily, i don't really have enough passion to either stick with it or make truly good music. so i can play a couple of instruments but don't really. Vegetarian, vegan, kosher, ect...? no, meat is one of my favorite foods...we don't drink a lot of real milk in the house because my mom's a vegan, but i love buttermilk too much to not keep it around anyway. Favorite place to shop [clothes] well i never have any money so usually h&m (it's like the ikea of the clothing world--nice looking, cheap, falls apart easily) or target. i like this korean brand "dodostyle" a whole lot, though, and buy from them when i can. |

| hi everyone, i'm relatively new here...trying to deal with bulimia. (it feels so weird to even type that--i haven't told anyone except kind of my best friend [i made it sound a lot less serious than it feels like it is and acted like it was already all better] and i was trying for a really long time to pretend even to myself that there wasn't a problem, but i really think there is.) for awhile i was binging almost every night and then exercising obsessively to "get rid of it." right now i'm doing a lot better, but i keep relapsing and it's really discouraging. i still haven't been able to get through a whole week without binging and even though i've banned myself from exercising until my legs get better (for the past month or so i've had trouble even standing up) i haven't gone a day in months where i've walked less than a couple of miles, which i kept justifying to myself as "trying to save money on transportation" but i'm starting to realize is just part of the problem again.
i'm too afraid to ask for support from my friends or family (i don't know what my parents would do and my friends would just be disappointed or confused, probably--especially my best friend, who has an ed herself and says things like i'm an inspiration to her, eating-wise, like i actually have a healthy view of food--except i don't, but i don't want to let her down) so i thought i'd come here. i really want to get over this. all i think about is food or exercising and it's getting in the way of enjoying everything and i hate it. i want to walk without my ankles and knees hurting, i want to eat at a normal pace and a normal amount of food. i want a normal view of everything, again. i don't even know how this happened, i just want it to go away. i know i just have to take things a day at a time, but it's still really difficult. i'm planning on today being a good day (i'm going to keep really close watch on myself to not binge; i'm going to take the bus for longer distances to give my legs more opportunity to heal) so i just hope it does go well. |

| i have the same figure exactly! spot reduction doesn't exist, it's true, but toning does make a difference. what works for me is:
- 10 each leg side-lying leg lifts (which goes for your outer thighs but also your butt) - 10 squats - 10 each leg of this weird kind of leg lift that actually doesn't target your leg, it targets your butt--you stand, put your opposite hand against a chair or similar for balance, then hold your thigh perpendicular to your body with your knee bent so your leg's at a 90 degree angle, hold your back completely straight, and lift your leg out to the side as high as possible without bending or twisting your back. - 10 - 20...i don't know what you'd call them...but sit on an exercise ball, then lie down and roll so only your shoulders are resting on it and your legs are out in front of you with your knees bent, thighs parallel to the floor, hands on your hips. then let your butt fall to the floor, then push up. i don't know if i explained that well, but it helps a lot. you can also do it on the floor without the ball (lie on your back with your knees up like you're going to do crunches, but instead push your butt off the floor, hold, lower, etc) but it's better with it. i did all of that every day for awhile and i definitely saw a difference. it doesn't even take a long time, maybe fifteen minutes. i haven't been able to do it lately because i'm not really allowed to exercise until my body recovers from some recent damage, but i'm definitely going to start again soon. |

| i've currently been struggling with stopping such a cycle myself--for me, it's been binging and obsessively over-exercizing to where, at one point, i could barely walk. what's been helping me is mapping out the times when i know i'm more likely to binge--for example, when i come home from somewhere at night i have a tendancy to trigger. i think about it beforehand and concentrate on not starting, because i know i'm not rational enough to stop myself while i'm in the middle of shoveling things into my mouth. i've also been trying to assess how i actually feel/what it is that i actually want (as opposed to food, because i don't think it's really about food) and trying to channel that upset/worry/elation/whatever into something more emotionally productive, like art or even just a phone conversation with a close friend. it still does happen, though, and i've disallowed myself from doing anything to "fix" overeating so it gets really discouraging. (i've slipped on this, too, but it's been getting so much better.) i've found that even just being really strict like, "even this once, i won't make an exception" helps a lot. (less likely to binge if i know i'm stuck with it, for one thing.) i think first completely cutting out the "purging" part is the most important, and then focusing all of your energy on how to eat in a normal way...because after all, food is a basic necessity, which is something i tend to forget a lot. (it becomes either a friend or an enemy, and neither is really the role it should be playing.) most importantly, don't beat yourself up if you slip and make a mistake. it's bound to happen, but if you let it get you too much you'll just end up back where you started. remember that a mistake isn't the end of the world and there's always a tomorrow. and good luck. :) |

| boredom eating is my biggest problem, haha. usually i think up something that i know i can watch for a long time (a show, etc) on youtube...or i'll take a long walk. sometimes i make up rules for myself (like "if you're too lazy to exercise when you're tired you're too lazy to eat when you're not hungry") but that only works when i'm feeling especially in control of myself.
making a cup of tea helps too. |

snack: low fat greek yogurt with flaxseed and honey lunch: sardines on flourless whole grain toast, half a grapefruit, two squares of dark chocolate, tea with soymilk that's all so far...i'll probably have another snack sometime (probably spinach and salsa stirred together?) and then for dinner i'm getting gyros with a friend. |
