Health & Support in patient vs. out patient for e.d. Sep 24 2008

I have done both inpatient and outpatient. And honestly, you are wasting your time if you really don't want to get better deep down inside of you....I went to inpatient day after day with the mindset of "yeah yeah, whatever..as soon as I get through with this program I can eat what I want, and not eat when I don't want to"..Through that, I wasted a lot of time and money because at that time I didn't want to completely let go of my disorder.

Yeah at inpatient they can feed you, and watch you eat all of your meals and talk you through it and such-- but as soon as you get released its up to you to do it on your own...and with that said..you have to WANT to recover.

I think one of the biggest battles in recovery is wanting to completely let go of your disorder.  I myself am still in the process of gaining my last few pounds and still sometimes find myself wanting to keep parts of my eating disorder..

but i have learned that you can't half way recover-you have to completely let go and do whatever it takes to get better---even if that means weight gain.

Maybe a little off topic....but kind of relative.

Calories in one piece of baked plain fish?

Calories in one piece of boneless grilled chicken breast?

Which would we a better choice? out to eat wise?

PLEASE REPLY. HAPPY TUESDAY.

**Bump**

There are so many threads on sweet potatoes and I chose to bump this one up to get a few questions answered before dinner tonight, so help please!

I went to  the grocery store earlier and bought a really really big sweet potato...My question is, is there a way to cut the potato in half while its raw and cook half tonight and say half tomorrow??? Will it cook okay like that??

ALSO, I usually just put my potatoes in the microwave in a plastic bag and heat them up that way...but im curious since im cutting it in half would it work the same or should i put it in the oven to cook?

PLEASE HELP, dinner is very soooooooon!

Oddly enough, I am an anorexic...but I too myself find it hard to leave food on the plate--if it is there, I will eat it....but I only serve/buy myself healthy small portions to have some control I guess?

i dont trust myself around a lot of food....so I just restrict EVERYTHING (which I know is not good)

but im afraid that once I do start eating "for my hunger" that i'll lose control and eat everything....

Yeah i dont get it --I hate it

Sorry couldnt give you any helpful information, but just know your not alone! Thanks for posting this!

I enjoy eating there, I am in love with sweet potatoes though, that could be why?!

Great question, I am also having the same thoughts because my mom's idea of the foods I need to be eating to gain weight for recovery....are not healthy at ALL, and high in calories..so basically its all junk,,,worse thing is when she is around, I HAVE TO EAT IT....i hate it because I want to be healthy.....

aggghhh. recovery is the hardest thing i've attempted in my life.

***BumP***

So I FINALLY began to refeed myself with the support of my mom....which is 50/50 because she keeps on saying "encouraging  comments" such as "you need to be  eating foods that make you gain weight and fatten you up"...but when she says those things, I kind of freak out.

But I was just wondering if while you were recovering from anorexia and trying to "gain gradual slow weight".....Would you eat out at places that you love, like your favorite restaurants and favorite entrees/foods?....OR did you mostly rely on preparing your own food/healthy snacks at home....

I figured a "a calorie is a calorie"....but my mom is wanting me to eat some heavy duty foods...

Whatcha think? stories? experience? advice?

Interesting.

Does the calorie counting in your head eventually die down?.....

Like, I have a real hard time eating calorie dense foods when I could have a lot of low calorie foods instead...

Im more quantity--I like volume. is that common?

Thank you so much for the tips.

I am 5'7"  and 98 lbs...

When  you first went to 1200 calories real fast--how did your body adjust....I can't handle major changes really fast because  I am afraid I  will  go back to old ways  of  restricting....

Sigh....I seem to starve all day then eat all my intake at night....at  the moment I  feel  like im  going to pop.

Do you think I can trust what this website says my expenditure says on this website even though I am recovering and my metabolism is probably all messed up???

I'm having  a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea that it takes 3500 EXTRA calories to gain a pound?  My head tries to tell me that I am different and I take less calories to gain weight?  Talk some reasoning into me please.

Yes I am in the refeeding process....but I like to keep track of my calories so I can see how my body responds to everything, ya know?

Also: about the refeeding...should I eat healthy? or just try to put on weight with stuff like calzones, milkshakes, ect.

How many calories should a refeeding anorexic eat per day to gain 1 pound a week?
