| flowerbud- I've been going through that stage and it took me about a month. I did gain a little, like 2 or 3 lbs, but once you make peace and get past it you will be able to make healthier choices and still have the occasional not so healthy choice without feeling guilty. Your weight will level out and if you need to lose a few again it will happen naturally, just by following your bodies cues. I found most things I ate a few times and that is all I needed to get past that food. Ice cream was my hardest, because I love sweet stuff. Just be patient and try not to weigh yourself as often. I didn't weigh for about 3 weeks, down from almost everyday. And it made me feel better to get on the scale and not see a huge difference. | |||

infinityontrial- I totally understand where you are coming from. I do not have an ED background either, just obsessive about being "perfect" on my diet and sticking to the rules set for me. I have a lot of trouble recognizing my hunger signals and can go from maybe I am to "I HAVE TO EAT RIGHT NOW!" so quickly that it surprises me. I also have been going for about a week of eating lots of not so healthy foods, high fat, high cals, high sugar. Its like give me permission to eat whatever and all I eat is junk! I'm trying to focus on how I feel and make better choices, because I know I feel better when I eat better, but I'm struggling. Any suggestions??? |

| sarah2286- I totally understand. I'm having trouble with "listening" to my body as well. It's like I go from not hungry at all to starved, never feeling the in-between stages. Then I have trouble recognizing when I'm full, until I've gone past full. I feel like I can't distinguish it anymore. But if you read the book by the authors of the website they say it takes an adjustment period, so hang in there. I've been trying to "Make Peace with Food" and feel like I eat everything in site...I'm afraid of slipping into bad habits of eating bad most of the time and good some of the time. So this week I'm trying to focus on eating healthy and listening to my body. We'll see how it goes. | |||

Hi everyone, I've really enjoyed reading the posts. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who still struggles some. I finished reading the book and it helped me understand just how to fit this in and change old ways. I'm doing pretty good, still dealing with some emotional eating, but nowhere near where I was. My husband says he can tell I'm happier and not as stressed all the time. It's nice not to have to plan every meal and snack and know that whatever I'm hungry for is ok:) In fact I just had spaghetti for breakfast:) I haven't done that since high school. Cool thing was I just emptied the bowl on a plate and didn't eat all of it just because it was there. I stopped when I was comfortably full, which is totally new for me:) Anyway thanks, again! |

Thank you so much for starting this topic. I had never heard of intuitive eating, and when I read your first post I thought "THAT is what I've been trying to do, but didn't know where to start." I went to the website and read all about it, then went and bought the book. Reading I really feel like the book is speaking directly to me! I have been trying to incorporate what the book says into my life, which means not counting cals, not counting portions, not weighing/measuring everything I eat, not weighing myself (that one has been hard), and listening to what my body tells me it needs. Thinking back this is the way I used to live before going on a diet and losing 20 lbs, and I was a much happier person! So thank you, and I know it will be hard at times and easier at times...so I really appriciate the support! Anyone who hasn't read the book by the author's of the website, I strongly recommend it. It gives a lot more detail, examples and insite on how to really move into intuitive eating. |

I like Lean Turkey burgers on the forman...buy a pack of 4 premade, freeze individually and put on the grill frozen. They are juicier and still only take about 5 min. I add steam in the bag veggies...since those go in the microwave and I can cook both at the same time. Or I'll heat up veggie burgers, since they are fast. I also like low fat feta cheese on my steam in the bag veggies. Hope that helps |

| Throw your salad in pita bread that way you can eat and write at the same time. Or do a small "buffet" small containers of cheese cubes, baby carrots, a fruit, and crackers. That way you can munch and take notes without disturbing anyone. | |||

What is your frame size?? Someone your hieght can weigh anywhere from 94.5 lbs to 115.5 lbs depending on frame size. But keep in mind that is what they consider "ideal," look at yourself in the mirror and decide if YOU think you need to gain a few pounds. |

| I'm in, but this is completely new to me, too. I've visited the website and I think this is exactly what I've been trying to do, just didn't know how to "define it." I'm 5'6" and 137, I have been struggling with binging and I know the main reason I binge is emotional. I eat relatively well until I get stressed, then I go way over board on "bad" things...like sweets. I've been trying to change my mindset, but didn't know how. Thanks |

| Thanks dee- this maintaining stuff ain't all that easy. I fell of yesterday, I let myself get too tired which led to eating crap. So restart as of today-again- Aug. 29. I'm trying to clarify my "rules" to make it easier for me to stay on track. I'll post them when I have it nailed down. It was so much easier to follow a structured plan, now I'm lost. So I'm going to come up with a list of simple guidelines for me to hold myself accountable to. Let you know what and how its going |

| Try turning on some music you love and dance around like crazy for at least 30 min. It's free, fun, and actually a good cardio workout. just make sure your heart rate increases.
Also, after my son was born and I had no free time I would just make a loop around my house or yard...or up and down the driveway for however long he napped. It might be only 10-15 min at a time, but it added up over the course of the day and I didn't have to depend on someone else to watch him...there again new baby and diapers...it was free:) Hope that helps |

| I shoot for 3-4 days at least 30 min cardio and 2 days strength where I do whole body and am exhausted when through.
I beleive you should change some part of your routine every 6 weeks or so, to keep challenging your body and getting max cal burn. |

| Hi all- I need to update my goals and "rules." I've decided to maintain where I am, so still eating clean...just trying to stay where I am. Here are my rules...NO binging, eat mostly healthy foods, eat not-so-healthy foods only in moderation occasionally, work out 3-4 times a week at least...maintain my weight at around 136 lbs eating about 1600 cals a day. I hope this is ok. Can I still participate maintaining?? | |||

| Hi everyone, thought I would post to say I've had a revelation in the dieting scheme of things. I've decided to stop losing and maintain here. Change my focus to eating healthy and staying fit, but not nec. losing weight. I've noticed an obsession with the number on the scale forming, I think it goes hand in hand with the binging. But anyway, I'm happy with my body and I am going to just change tracks. Eat healthy, work out, don't binge, and decrease stress to be a healthier happier me:) I know you guys are a great support system so I'm asking for your help in this new way of living/thinking. thanks to all - Nita | |||

| Hi everyone! I have some good news! I went to dinner with a friend last night and everything seemed to go wrong. We didn't actually get to the resaurant until after 9:00, with 2 2yr olds and a 5yr old. Talk about 3 cranky kids, and we were all tired and hungry. We were at a Mexican restaurant so I just got fajitas and ate only the meat and veggies, no sour cream or anything else. Then my friend orders FRIED ICECREAM!!! She's passing it around and I declined, even with her proding!!! Then to go one step further, because that could have led to me comeing home and eating everything sweet around, but I didn't!!! I wanted to, but didn't!!! I came home and had a protein supplement and fruit, and went to bed...hungry! But I didn't let it lead me down the very bad path of a binge, and the scale repaid me this morning...137.4!!!!! Sorry this was so long, but I had to share.
luanne52- Have you changed your workouts lately? Or has anything else changed? If not you may want to change something because your body gets used to one thing and a change can help break a plateau as well. That sounds like what your going through, hang in there and it will break. |

| Maintaining | HIIT when maintaining? | Aug 17 2007 20:36 (UTC) |

| Thanks for the clarification. I've just never seen HIIT before. It sounds like a great workout. I've just start back with my cardio, so I'm working my way up to 1 hour. Actually yesterday was my first full hour, I feel great today. But I know changing it up is a good idea so I'll keep this in the list of things to try:) | |||

| I do the same things, I'll even try to hide my binges from my husband or family. It's like when they can see me I know I can't eat that 2nd piece of cake so it stops there. But if I'm by myself or where they can't see, I don't have to "let them down" so I do whatever. Which never stops at just one! | |||

| Hang in there, I know where you are and how you feel. Just remember something I was told here, even though you feel out of control you can control it. Once you resist the urge over one thing it becomes a little easier with the next. I can't beleive you bf is goin out with an ex! That is messed up, don't let it mess with you though. | |||

| Violetphish is right, as long as you up your calories slowly you should eventually get to a point where you are no long losing, but are not gaining. Although if you are not currently taking in 1200 cals a day you need to start there for a week or so then go up from there. Anything under 1200 is not healthy, and will hurt your metabolism. Definitely keep up the exercise, it will help keep fluxuations down and keep your metabolism up.
Good luck:) |

| Maintaining | Healthy Goals -- Introduction | Aug 15 2007 21:15 (UTC) |

| Hi ImoGene!! I think preparing for a marathon IS a healthy goal, that takes a lot of work. Just make sure you do it in a healthy way, like making sure you give your body enough calories to be at peak fitness. There are a lot of tricks you can use, you may want to talk to a nutritionist, or trainer (with experience in nutrition). They will be able to give you some basic healthy guidelines for maintaining your weight while running. Congrats on the 20 lbs!! Just remember you are better off listening to yourself not other people when deciding what weight is right for you. It's up to you if you want to lose more or maintain. | |||
Will I lose weight if I eat the same food over and over?
You can lose weight despite eating the same food day-after-day as long as you eat fewer calories than you burn. In fact, eating the... Read more
