Mine says 26.8 and my calendar age is 27.5.  Probably not real low because I smoked for 12 years !  I have been working hard on the diet and exercise for over a year and haven't smoked in 2.5 years so at least I am working toward the good and not the evil.

Health & Support leg injury... I need suggestions to stay on top! Aug 23 2008

Injuries suck for sure! I have been dealing with an Achilles tendon injury since Dec 2007.

You will just have to keep an extra watchful eye as to what goes in your mouth.

Do the swimming thing, arm weights, exercise bike on no resistance (sucks but at least you are moving), ab work, strap on some ankle weights and lay on the floor and do some leg lifts if you can (it keeps your body weight off but allows you to still get some exercise).

Don't over do it when you think you are getting better it will only set you up for a fall....trust me, I was all like oh it is all good, it doesn't hurt too bad....but as you just keep adding to your routine all adds up to too much and then you fall back and have to go back to even less cause you over do it. Just make sure to increase after the injury very slowly to avoid aggravating the injury and having a set back!

Certain brands you will find will freeze better than others.  I find that some of the fat free varieties freeze more icy than others and some will freeze with a more creamy consistency than others.  I like them completely frozen like a Popsicle or 1/2 thawed more like ice cream consistency....it all just depends on my mood of the moment.

Foods Dilemma - Party foods - least unhealthy Jul 26 2008

I usually solve this dilemma by bringing a platter I prepare to the party that way I always have at least something I know for sure I can munch on. I doubt it if any host would be offended if you showed up with a platter for sharing such as a prepared veggie platter or a plate of whole grain pita bread cut into wedgies with some hummus for dipping. Bring your own bottle of diet cola if you think the host won't have any available. Make a decision before to allow yourself a set number of alcoholic beverages and stick to it...I myself would choose maybe 3 or 4 ounces.

Watch out for Sun tea.  Brew hot tea and then put it in the fridge for "iced tea" instead of sun tea.  Sun tea has high risk of bacteria because it doesn't reach a high enough temp.  Read more:  Sun Tea

Here in Alberta we have the oilsands up in Fort MacMurray......the entire city is pretty much all oil riggers up there!!! Alberta is such a rich province from oil....but we don't get any deals at the gas station. I can't believe we don't pay a lower price when our workers the ones pulling the oil from our ground.

Hey about that working on the 23rd floor thing.....how about using the rest room on the 20th? I recently just moved from an office where I worked on the 25th and I frequented the rest rooms on the 28th(top) and the 22nd and 23rd. If you drink tons of water like I do that can be quite a few sets of stairs in one day. When you go out at lunch time and the end of the day, take the stairs down it really isn't too bad going down.  (Now I work on the 5th floor and I never take the elevator)

3 - 6 or more cookies in one serving like the huge skor one's from Costco

I had surgery on friday and was awake for it!!  It was so scary!  I had a lump removed from my breast and I was not put to sleep.  I got about 20  insertions of the of 3 different needles to spread out the freezing all around.  These needles really sting at first.  Then I kept my eyes closed while the operation took place.  I didn't feel pain but I could feel the motions of cutting and then the blood running down my side.  I felt nauseous and soooo hot and sweaty during the whole thing.  I NEVER want to have a surgery under local anesthetic again!!!

Health & Support Anyone have body image issues that aren't related to weight? May 20 2008
03:00 (UTC)
12

Oh boy, I have a few non-weight related body issues that I can get off my chest!

1 - My face. I always have zits!! I don't have a ton at once, but always have 2 or 3 new ones along with 2 or 3 half healed. I have tried almost everything imaginable, except accutane. I refuse to go on that because it screws up other parts of your body, including your liver. If I wear makeup to cover them I break out even horribly, so all I can wear is eyeshadow and mascara.

2 - My ears. When I get embarrassed, nervous, hot or anything else my ears turn BRIGHT red. This may not sound too bad, but my ears are pretty large and stick out so it looks pretty funny. I really hate it because everyone always makes comments, which only embarrasses me and makes them turn redder.

3 - My armpits and feet. I have a medical condition called hyperhydrosis, which basically means I sweat like crazy. I put on deoderant/antiperspirant like 4 times a day! I try to wear dark colored light fabric shirts or sleeveless cause they do the best job of disguising my problem. I have tried prescription antiperspirant but it burns and is unbearably itchy. My other option is botox injections, which would be very expensive, short lasting and apparently painful in those areas. My feet stink so horribly, especially in the summer time that it is extremely embarrassing. I MUST wash my feet immediately after taking off my shoes!

1 shot glass filled with lime juice

(The lime juice causes the Baileys to curdle and become chunky in the mouth) this is soooo gross!!!

My Homemade Granola Bars - HUGE RECIPE!!!

You may want to cut the recipe in half! I always go crazy when I'm inventing :) This turned out completely awesome!!! Waaaayyyy better than I thought and just as good if not better than any store bought one.

3 cups rolled oats (270g)

1 cup nuts & seeds (I used a mix with almonds, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds)

1/2 cup dried raisin

1/2 cup dried cranberries (or 1/2 cup more raisins or whatever other dried fruit you want to sub in 1/2 cup)

1 cup wheat germ (135g)

1 1/2 cup Fibre One (90g)

1 1/2 cup Rice Krispie (45g)

250g chopped dried apricots

4 Tbsp margarine (120g)

1 cup honey (160g)

1 cup packed brown sugar (210g)

4 Tbsp Low fat peanut butter (60g)

2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce

1 tsp salt

4 tsp vanilla extract

Makes 1700g finished. 48bars. Cut into 35g bars

1 - Use both the 9X13 & 8X11 glass blue dishes. Rip wax paper 2.5 times the length (enough to line the pan and then fold over to cover bars). Wipe inside of the pans with clean damp cloth and the side of the wax paper. Press wax paper inside the dishes.

2 - Preheat oven to 400 degrees

3 - Chop up dried apricots and arrange on a baking sheet spread out. Cook in oven for approx 5 mins. Remove from oven and allow to cool.

4 - Measure into a medium bowl, Fibre One, Rice Krispie, dried cranberry, raisin. Scrape the dried apricots from the baking sheet with spatula into this mixture.

5 - Chop the nuts and mix with wheat germ and oats. Spread over 2 baking sheets. These will be toasted for approx 10 min just before you are ready to use them. Stir them occassionlly to avoid burning.

6 - In a medium pot over medium heat combine margarine, honey, b. sugar, peanut butter, applesauce, salt & vanilla. Cook to disolve sugar and boil for about 1 min, stirring frequently. This will be approx 10 mins, so toast the oat mix at the same time as you are doing this step.

7 - Dump the hot liquid mix into a very large bowl. Immediately add oats mix and fruit mix. Stir well until all is coated.

8 - Spread 700g into 8X11 dish & then the remaining 1000g into 9X13 dish. Fold over the sides of the wax paper and press very hard to form.

9 - Chill in fridge at least 2 hours before cutting. Cut into 48 - 35g bars. From 8X11 dish cut 20 bars & from 9X13 dish cut 28 bars.

Each 35g bar is 143 cal & 5g Fat. I decided on 35 g, because that seems to be a standard size store bought granola bar.

I totally agree with you! I hate it when my co-workers try to pressure me into eating crap I don't want to eat. "Come on live a little"....or.....my favorite is when this one girl says "everyone needs treats in moderation" and she using a large iced cappuccino with whipped cream to wash down her french fries, potato chips or whatever other crap she is eating that day.

People ridicule me for eating fruit on birthday cake days instead of the cake. We have potluck at work quite often and I can't say I look forward to it very much, it is usually just crap, crap and more crap and mostly just store bought cause most people are too lazy to even cook or prepare anything!

My lunch bag could feed a family of rabbits! It is the largest lunch bag in the fridge and loaded with fruits, veggies, supplemented with some whole grains and lean meats. If people could only just realize they could feel so much better if they would just eat better. And they could eat more without gaining weight too!

I would also say that over 1/2 of the people at my work complain frequently about their weight and claim to watch what they eat, but really I would say only 4 of us out of 20 actually make an effort to eat healthy.

Health & Support Planning a Mother's Day Brunch - would this be ok for a diabetic? May 13 2008

Thanks all! She is actually type 2 and does not require the insulin injections.  It went great and she absolutely loved it.  We didn't eat all the food I had prepared.  There was some of everything left.  She has called us 3 times since to thanks us and tell us how much she enjoyed it!! :)

Victualgirl - Actually I couldn't take the sugar out of the pancake mix cause it was a purchased mix.  I just looked for the mix with the lowest sugar, all the others were between 5-7g sugar - the one I got had 1g /  serving.  I probably shouldn't have put sugar on the stawberries at all, but I had some other ones that I put out without sugar and she chose those ones.  The Mouse mix was ... again a mix - I showed her the package before I brought out the dessert and asked if it would be ok.

Tadpole - I don't know how many carbs, I never count those.  Thanks though, now I know that I will need to consider that when I cook for her again.

Pretty much. I honestly think it's annoying that they do that, but no one else seems to mind for some reason

So is CC+ made in the US? Would this affect the #'s for example of fruit? Gala apples show 1.5g of fibre, would these fibre calories be subtracted?

So assuming the post I am quoting is also for 1/2 cup or 30g serving there does appear to be quite a difference in US and Canadian calorie reporting!!!

Edit:  This must be also why I see sometime people have mentioned like 50 calories for a slice of bread or tortilla.  The lowest bread I can find anywhere after searching high and low is for 75 calories and this is kinda a small sized loaf.  Also the best I seem to be able to find is 150 cal/tortilla.
