I'm in. I'm 5'1.5" and about 161 right now. If I could get down to 130-135 that would be great! I've been off and on with calorie counting for a while now. I really buckled down and started up again last summer when I hit an all time high of 177 or so, by mid Oct I was down to about 157 and now I'm back up a few pounds and ready to get back in it! |

Well for your first question about the "bad" wedding - the only wedding I've been to that I didn't particularlly like had way too many people at it - probably about 300 - had to have been anyone the family ever knew (and the father of the bride was a minister so probably their whole church too). It really wasn't that personal or great and there were so many young young children there no one was really paying attention to the bride or groom - in fact the bride's parents almost left in the middle of the ceremony to attend to a fussy toddler! Luckily an aunt or uncle jumped in to help. For my wedding (which was last spring) we had about 125 people, which I thought was perfect for us. I've also been to a smaller wedding, probably about 70 people which worked out for that couple's preferences as well. What they did - which may be an option for your son and DIL - is they invited all the important family and close friends up to the max number they thought they could invite. As they got people saying they couldn't come they put informal invites out to some of thier friends (like me and my husband) who were close enough to understand the situation (my husband was a college roommate of the groom) but not so close they made it onto the 'A' list. We had a great time there.
Anyways, as a recent bride I'd say its their day and let them have it. If you want to express some opinions, if you can, test them out on your son first and see what he thinks. Maybe he wants a small wedding too, maybe she is really set on the small wedding and he wants to make her happy, or maybe there truly are money woes and they would like it a little bigger but can't afford it. Money can be a sensitive issue, espeically if her parents can't help out, and I would say talk it out with your son first. Those are my (long) two cents :) |

Original Post by singinfatlady: So if I'm following this correctly... you say that if an employee needs health insurance they should be looking to work for a larger company that can provide it rather than a smaller company that cannot (and would leave them on their own to find insurance). So then what happens when people stop working for smaller companies, in favor of going somewhere that would provide healthcare, as you suggest? Without employees small companies cannot survive and that would leave only large companies in America.... |

Original Post by moonikins: And if I lived in a swing state I may be more concerned to rearrange my life to vote, but since I don't, and my vote would be for Obama, who will win Maryland anyways, I just don't have the time to spend hours in line. |

Original Post by yachtracer1977: In Maryland they are only required to do that "if the employee does not have two hours of continuous off-duty during the time that the polls are open." Polls are open 7am-8pm and I work 8:30am-5pm so technically I don't qualify for that.
Regarding the obedience class... unfortunately we've been signed up for a while, paid already, and are required to go to the first class. I assumed I'd be able to vote in the morning and didn't think it would be a problem... |

This morning I figured I had time before work to either vote, or go to the gym. I decided to vote. Our polling places opened at 7, so I left my house slightly before that. I passed one polling place on the way and the parking lot was full, people were parked on both sides of the street for almost a half mile, and the parking lot next to the school was full and the line was at least 200 long wrapped around the parking lot. I continued on to my polling place which was the same way :( Unfortunately I didn't have time to stand in line before work this morning and my puppy starts obedience school tonight so I can't go after work. Maybe my job will let me leave early and I can see if I can beat the after work rush... but I work an hour from home so I'd have to leave pretty early to do that. Sadly I may not end up voting today, but luckily I don't live in a swing state, Maryland is pretty predictable. The ironic thing I was telling my husband is that if I don't vote I won't be able to get to vote for the question allowing early voting in Maryland! |

Friday night I'll give out candy but I'm not really expecting any trick-or-treaters... we live in a fairly remote area (even tho we're only like 10 mins from Baltimore) and my immediate neighbors don't have any kids. Then maybe we'll go to a friend's party, or at least go to bars in that area. Saturday night we're having a party! I'm not caring about dieting... I'm making whatever foods look good and that I can put a Halloween twist on. I got lots of cute serving dishes as wedding gifts and I love to entertain. We'll probably also have a bonfire with s'mores and maybe set up some beer pong - I think the last time we played that was at our friends party last year :P Oh and for dressing up... I bought a Marilyn Monroe dress :) I'm worried I'll be a little cold tho... so I'll just have to have lots of warm cider with rum, or my favorite - hot chocolate with Bailey's! |

You can get an electric space heater for relatively cheap and they're pretty good at heating up one room. We have oil heat which is crazy expensive right now so we have a small heater for our bedroom and we just got another for the living room because they'll really be the only rooms we'll be in a lot. That way we don't have to heat the whole house to the temp we like. |
