Weight Loss Ok, answer honestly... Nov 18 2009

I've lately been trying to figure out what my measurements would be at different weights based on my trend so far in losing 48 pounds.  I found that i would have almost those exact measurements at near the lowest healthy weight i could have, and actually was a little shocked that i could possibly even be that small!  I think you are definitely a good weight and have amazing measurements and should embrace them and be happy with them.

Its been taking me FOREVER!  I found in the past couple weeks that zigzaging my calories has helped immensly though.  I was stuck between 138 and 140 (my goal is 130) and i started zigzaging, now i'm around 136 - 137.  It seems to be working quite well, so i'd recomend giving it a shot.

Weight Loss Weight loss for health, or for appearence? Nov 09 2009

Original Post by rgurleyjr1:

It's not a problem, I have went after weight loss because of my size, not my health. I think that most people who say they lost weight because of health are deceiving theirselves. I think people think it's wrong to lose weight for apperance reasons, then if that's the case, people who don't  care about their weight who eat junk food are in the same boat.

I dont think i was decieving myself when i decided to lose weight for my health.  My initial reason to lose weight was because i was getting sick all the time, was winded just walking up stairs, was exhausted constantly, and so on.  And it all started when i gained 50 lbs in about a year, and obviously unhealthy move which put me from healthy to just in the obese category.

After about 40 lbs and moving back into the high end of the healthy category i felt in much better health.  I chose to lose the last 10 lbs for appearance after a lot of thinking, and because i wanted to fit in all my old clothes and not have to buy new ones.  Appearance wasnt a concern at first though.  I just really wanted to feel healthy again.

Weight Loss Packing your scales with you on a trip over the holidays? Nov 09 2009

Yup, i take my scale with me when i go home for the holidays.  I dont mean seeing it jump up or down a lot though so it doesnt really stop me from enjoying myself and eating a little more during the holidays.  For me its more about knowing my body and what it does in relation to how much i eat, not about trying to restrict during the holidays.

Weight Loss Is anyone out there 5.3 and trying to lose 30 pounds? Nov 04 2009

I just wanted to pipe in and say you can do it!  I'm 5'4" and started at 181.4 pounds about seven months ago.  I ate about 1200 - 1500 calories a day while sedentary, more if i did any exercise or was more active during the day.  I'm now 136.6 pounds, 44.8 pounds down!  I was surprised to learn i really could lose weight if i wanted to and restricted calories.  Now i only have a little over 6 pounds left to my goal and i just want to say that while it can be a little overwhelming at first, you can succeed it this!

A greek salad from school with mixed greens, feta cheese, and olives.  Delicious sounding, though it was a bit wilty, probably had been sitting around for a while.

That recipe sounds delicious!  I'm very eager to see if i can pick up the ingrediants at my local health food store and give it a shot!  I'm also curious about how many serving you normally get from it, although i suppose it makes sense to portion it out more based on how many calories you need or want at that point.

Weight Loss why do you REALLY want to lose weight [be honest] Nov 03 2009

I want my partner to be able to pick me up and carry me around the house without getting winded or dropping me XD

I want to be able to get all the body mods and tattoos i want and have them look good on the new curvy me instead of kinda blah on the old blobby me.

I want to look like a faerie and use my shortness to my advantage instead of it just making me look a bit chubbier.

I want to be able to buy the clothing i like from Japan and be a normal size and not have to have stuff custom made.

I dont want to have to buy as much fabric when i make my own clothing.

I want to feel more motivated to build some muscle because i know it will be visible instead of hidden under the extra 50 lbs i've been trying to get rid of.

I started at 181.4 and wore about a 14, though my clothes were very tight on me.  I'm around 140 now and wear an 8 at the smallest, but around a 10 or 12.  I'm 5'4" by the way.

Weight Loss Need Advice Please, Reasonable Goal? Oct 28 2009
14:51 (UTC)

I think with a bit over a year to do it, 70 - 75 lbs is definitely a reasonable goal.  What are your eating habits like at the moment?  How many calories are you trying to consume, and do you get a balanced diet or have a lot of empty calories?  While you technically should be able to lose weight with a calorie deficit no matter what you eat, i've seen that people that make healthy changes seem to lose weight more easily and also find it much easier to keep it off.

Another bit of advice is trying setting some mini goals for youself with rewards.  I started with a little over 50 lbs to lose and set goals every ten pounds which helped make things less overwhelming and motivated me more.  I chose rewards like new clothing to up my motivation even more.  Another thing that helped was getting a few items of clothing that were much to small and working towards fitting in them.  The day when you can actually wear something that was once a few sizes to small, or the day when it becomes to lose on you are some of the best inspiration i've found.

Anyway, i hope this helps and good luck on your weight loss journey.  You can do it!

Foods Low calorie / High fiber PASTA - the results are in! Oct 20 2009
16:02 (UTC)

I was skeptical because of the price but tried a sample in a gift basket my mother got and this stuff is AMAZING!  I would not have been able to lose 40lbs without it because pasta is my biggest weakness.  With this i can have pasta and not have to skimp on my favorite sauces, and get more fiber which was a problem before.  I know i sound like an ad but i seriously LOVE this stuff.

I also think it is tastier then other pastas i have tried (regular and low cal) and it truly makes me feel full after only one or two servings when i used to want to gobble down four servings of normal pasta.  I guess thats the fiber working there?  I also find this pasta keeps me full for much longer then most other things i eat.  Im supposing thats the fiber as well.

The only negative thing i can really think of is i've heard manufactured fiber isnt as good as natural fiber.  I know that without this i would have had a horrible time managing some of my worst pasta cravings and wouldnt have lost the weight i have as happily because i would have had to have a whole lot less of my favorite food!  If you are a pasta lover and having trouble fitting it in to your calorie budget i would HIGHLY recomend this!!!

I lost a little over a pound this week and am quite pleased with that.  I'm not sure i can reach 135 in two weeks because that would involve losing almost two pounds each week, but i'm still willing to try.  Really though i'd be perfectly happy just keeping at this pace.  I feel well on my way to my final goal of 130!

Foods What did you eat before?? Oct 15 2009

Typical dinner for me at least was a double chili burger from a local place, half a pizza, a whole bunch of rice with garlic and butter, or half a box of pasta with pesto and parmesan cheese.  Normally that was followed by a whole bowl of ice cream if i had desert, although i only had it a couple nights a week.  Oh, plus more mountain dew then should have been able to fit in my body.  No breakfast at all most days.  And lunch was often a bunch of possibly healthy cafeteria food if i had eaten less of it.

I still make room for the half a box of pasta with pesto on occasion, only now i have high fiber low calorie pasta which also has half the amount in the boxes...so not so bad.

When i reach my ideal weight i'll need a new wardrobe and will invest in as much eco-friendly clothing as i can made out of sustainable materials and in tune with light airy faerie fashion.  That way i look amazing (and will actually have a figure suited to the style i adore) and will also be helping mother earth!  I'll enjoy feeling good about my much needed new wardrobe on more then one level.

I would agree with those saying to bring food from home, but if on some days that isn't an option, why not try some of the healthier choices at starbucks?  Not all of them have this, but some have salads, sammiches, protein plates (containing a hard boiled egg, mini bagel, some fruit, and moe), and other semi healthier options.  They still probably are not as good as a what you could bring from home, but they are better then the pastries.  And if you're local starbucks doesnt have them, ask if they can supply them!  If interested people enquire they will often make efforts to stock them, mine did!  Also, the sammiches especially are really delicious.  I love the one with pesto, spinach, mozarella, and over roasted tomatoes....  Mmm, well, i'm losing track of things thinking about it.  Good luck making healthier chpices!

I'm two inches shorter then you and 130 is my goal weight.  I'm 140 right now and am starting to get just a tad bit bony in some places.  For you 110 would give you a BMI of 17.8 which is clinically underweight, so i would definitely not advise you to try and get back to that.  What you likely should do is work on changing your body image because you very likely do have a distorted view of yourself.  Also, if you really are not comfortable with the body you have now try focusing on toning it up a bit without losing weight.  That in fact will not only make you smaller as muscle takes up less room then fat, but it will also get you in better shape.  I really would advise working on your weight and self image issues first though because those can really lead you down a dangerous road if you let them go.

I've tracked my weight loss in relation to my measurements and found i lose about 2 inches from my waist every ten pounds, a little less then 2 from my hips, and a little less then 1 from my chest.  Everyone is different though so take your measurements every 2, 5, 10, or whatever pounds and track the relationship to see how your body works.

Make sure it doesn't happen frequently.  Its not a huge deal if you go below what you should very infrequently, its when it becomes a habit that it starts to cause serious harm.  Its still not good for you when it happens once in a while, but its nothing to freak out about.  Plan things out more carefully in the future if you are worried about it happening again.

Weight Loss Whats your goal breakup? Sep 29 2009

This is how i broke it up:

First Goal: 170 by May 5th - Reached April 22nd!

Second Goal: 160 by the end of June - Reached May 27th!

Third Goal: 150 before the beginning of fall semester - Reached July 5th!

Fourth goal: 140 by Samhain (Halloween)

Fifth goal: 130 by my birthday (December 1st)

I always gave myself a little wiggle room, and was happy to have reached my goals earlier then expected!  I also reward myself for every goal i reach.  I think breaking up weight loss into more managable portions really helps.  Good luck!

Hello everyone!  I'm 19 and started college a little over two years ago.  I managed to pack on 50 pounds during the summer before and my first couple years.  Half way through my second year i decided it had to stop.  I was shocked to find out i had gone over 180 pounds, the highest i'd been in my life, and that i was so out of shape i was out of breath just climbing the stairs to my house.  Since then i've lost 40.8 pounds, and have 10.6 to go to reach my goal of 130.  I'm 5'4" by the way.

Good luck all of you, and i'd love to talk with you through our weight loss journeys!

I started at a little over 180 with a goal of 130, and the weight i was trying to get rid of had only been with me for two or three years.  So far i've lost about 40 pounds and havent seen any noticable loose skin.  I'm also nineteen, so around the same age.  Of course every body is different, but i wouldnt worry about it too much.  Most of the people i've seen with loose skin problems have either lost hundreds of pounds, or are quite a bit older.

The Lounge "It was just a movie ..." - your opinion please Sep 28 2009

I would read ****: A Declaration of Independence by Inga Muscio.  Despite how the title sounds this book is not a fem nazi or erotica novel, its about freedom and the real life ideas and feelings of one woman.  There is a section though about this specific sort of thing, and ideas as to how to react.  I believe and follow these almost to the t, because they are the only thing that makes sense to me.

Showing rape in a movie is entirely innapropriate in a fashion that sexualizes it.  Not that its innapropriate in all situations, but to make it appealing or attractive is sick.  That kind of comment is sick as well, and what is perpetuated by movies that sexualize it.  If i were to see a movie that contained a scene of that sort i would make a scene myself, as it really isnt okay and the fact that it is seen as such is even worse.  I would also demand a refund because i dont pay to see women raped and violated, and that kind of action filmed is such a way that it highlights the scene as more erotic then horrifying.

Edit: Ha, i didnt realize it wouldnt let me post that title, but it makes sense now.  Im sure you can find it just searching for the author

Weight Loss 7 day Raw Food Detox Sep 24 2009
04:45 (UTC)

I've read a whole lot about detoxes and cleanses and i've found they tend to fall into two main categories.  There's the "trying to sell you something" category, and the "providing information" category.  The ones that try and sell you some magical mix of herbs, fruit juice, vege juice, or whatever, are likely a scam and wont really help.  The ones that promote comsuming all raw foods or certain food high in anitoxident and so on for a short period of time i tend to trust.

I have seen a few studies that say there are no conclusive results, but then i've also known a lot of people who have tried them and seen the desired effect.  Maybe it was the placebo effect, maybe not, but since it worked i'm not really worried about how.  Of course, even with that kind of cleanse its important to get it checked out by your doctor first.  The three doctors i've seen in the past ten years have all told me that they believe the detoxes i do occasionally are not harmful to me in any way, and most likely do improve my health.

I do agree on the points about being wary of the sites trying to make money off of detoxes.  And i would not trust the specific studies those sites try to use as proof for their "miracle product".  But then i also mistrust many of the studies that claim detoxes dont help in any way shape or form, because the ones i've seen have always been run by scientists with a lot of stock in the pharmacudical industry, and well, why would they want you able to do something to make you healthier when they have drugs for that, or can sell you more drugs when you are less healthy?  I'm not saying i believe this is the case at all, but the possibility of it makes me wary.

Thanks for the advice all of you!  I don't mind the fluctuations really, and believe pretty strongly in weighing daily cause it keeps me on track and i get to know my body a lot better.

This isnt the begininng of my diet, though i do remember the nice be drop all the way back then.  This is actually the start of week 27, with just over 40 lbs down.  I actually usually gain at this point in my cycle, making this drop particularly weird.  I've had weird drops of a few pounds before too, i'm just curious about the why and all, and the if the weight will jump back up tomorrow.
