| Well, I think Luna is made by cliff. So, you are not giving up the brand! I really like the new trail mix bars. They are awesome; a little sweet and a little salty and they even have one without peanuts! Yum! | |||

So, I am in a similar situation. I wanted to be that runner that you see out there going and going but I have never really run. When I tried to run I would hate it because I was so awful at it and I never really did it enough to see any improvement. I am the type of person that really needs to be able to see and track improvement or else I give up (see why I like cc so much? :)) So, I got Nike plus ipod and I love it! I started walking and jogging 2 weeks ago and I really like it with the ability to be able to see my improvement. I started jogging as much as I could but walked the rest. I started out going 2.35 miles at about a 14 min per mile pace. Today I went out and did about 4.5 miles at a 12:50 min per mile pace! I know this sounds dreadfully slow but I am proud. I know I will only continue to see improvements! My advice is to find something that motivates you. For me it was being able to track my progress. But maybe motivation could be finding a really nice trail to run on or just proving to yourself that you can go out there and do it. Good luck! |

I'm not quite sure how you originally got 45 cal but the 190 sounds a lot more realistic. If I were to make an omelet with those ingredients (I don't know how much you used) here is what I might estimate: 2 egg whites: 20 cal margarine- 1 tsp : 20 cal 1/4 cup skim milk: 20 Veggies: 35 Parmesan cheese - 2 tbsp : 70 cal that makes 165. So, yes it sounds like you were not counting correctly to begin with. |

| Calorie Count | confused about burn meter and eat meter totals | Sep 06 2007 23:52 (UTC) |
14 |
| The burn meter is an estimate of how many calories you burn in a day. Your daily calorie intake is just that; how many calories you eat in a day. If you have an eat meter of 1900 and a burn meter of 2910 it means you are at a caloric deficit of 2910-1900 = 1010. This means you should lose a little over a fourth of a pound today. Get it? | |||

I have also felt the same way... I think the best thing you can do is the following: 1. Stop beating yourself up!! 2. Set realistic goals. If you don't make it to the gym one night instead of telling yourself you are worthless for not going, tell yourself you will go the next day. Turn those negative thoughts into motivation to go next time. Same with eating, don't beat yourself up just make sure you do better the next day. It is all about bouncing back with dieting/exercising and not giving up. If you set unrealistic goals you are bound to fail. That is probably why you always feel like you are at some point going to fail because you hold yourself to such high standards. If you set realistic goals you will make it. Maybe this means you won't get into a swimsuit by next summer but so what? If you don't make it by next summer you will make it by the following summer. You need to reset your brain and tell yourself you can do it and little set backs are not the end of the world.
Good Luck! |

| Foods | Quinoa or Coucous? | Sep 06 2007 01:15 (UTC) |

| Quinoa over cous cous. However, I would recommend 2 alternatives: barley and amaranth. Both of which are really good for you. Barley is high in fiber, selenium, niacin, vitamin B, toctrienols (super form of vitamin E), ligans and phytochemicals that function as antioxidants and has been shown to lower cholesterol, and fight cancer. Amaranth is the only non-meat source that contains all 9 essential amino acids. | |||

| When I run in the morning I usually have 4-8oz of a smoothie. I usually get Naked superfood juice smoothies. Or a small power bar like pria or thinkgreen. I do this right when I get up then I get changed and ready to run, drink 16 oz of water and go. I never have a problem. | |||

Sophie, I think you look great! Losing 79 lbs is an amazing feat and you should look in the mirror and be proud! I know this is a hard thing to do; I struggle with the very same issues, especially with my thighs. This is due to low self esteem. I recommend you do 3 things:
That second point is really important because no matter how much weight you lose or how good you look you will still be looking at the flaws in the mirror. Get counseling, get a self help book, or start a diary to work on staying positive. For those of us with low self esteem the battle to being thin is not only in our weight loss but also in our minds. I think you look beautiful, but more importantly you have to think you look beautiful! I wish you the best! Lisa |

| Health & Support | Emotional Eating | Aug 20 2007 00:46 (UTC) |

| I have been in the same situation before. I had a really awful boss at work that caused me a lot of stress. I would say "I deserve this" when I had a particularly bad day and eat some chocolate. In actuality you cannot "deserve" food. By eating it I was not rewarding myself I was only causing myself more stress and in turn making myself feel worse for being fat.
However, in response to pladipooka, food does in fact make you happy. When you get stressed out you deplete levels of brain neurotransmitters such as seratonin and amino acid precurors like tryptophan. Then, we eat high fat, high carb, low protein foods to stimulate pleasurable endorphins and the feeling-of-reward-inducing chemical dopamine. Although, I do agree that seeing a consulor or writing in a journal might help. I cannot say I have gotten past of my emotional eating but I am working on it. I have a new boss and when I do get stressed at work I try really hard to leave it at work. I love to go home and put on a great cd loud and forget all about it and foccus on fueling my body the right way. I now take pride in eating a really healthy diet. When I say healthy, I don't mean low calorie, I mean I eat lots of protein, fiber, omega 3s etc. I reward myself by eating right and knowing that I deserve a healthy lifestyle. When that's not enough I give myself a facial or a foot rub. Another thing to try is sugar free hard candy. I found some baskin robins mint chip sugar free hard candies at target that are great and only have 10 calories a piece; this satisfies the sweet monster within me! I also have a journal where I write down what I eat, how I feel, and when I over eat I think about why and write it down and try not to let it happen again. Good luck, I hope this helps! |

| Health & Support | the pill | Aug 20 2007 00:30 (UTC) |

| I have been on desogen for about 4 years now. During that time I gained a significant amount of weight. Which I partially contribute to the pill but also to my eating habits. I was in college and ate out a lot. It certainly seems to make it harder for me to loose weight. For about 2 years I have been taking it continuously (4 periods per year). The weight gain was slow and came over time. I have recently decided to quit the pill in hopes that my reduced calorie diet and exercise plan will kick up the weight loss. Also, the side effects listed with my pill are: weight gain, weight gain, weight gain. Needless to say, everyones body reacts differently. | |||

| mmmm mmmm I had a good food day.
Breakfast: Strawberry flavored Kefir. Lunch: 3 pc california roll sushi, 1 pc salmon sashimi, 1 pc tuna sashimi. Snack: grapes, blueberries and a veggie lettuce wrap. Dinner: Grilled Atlantic Salmon on a bed of Swiss Chard and toasted pine nuts with a side of sweetened green tea. This was very tasty, easy to make and super filling! Then some more grapes. One baskins and robins sugar free hard candy for something sweet. |
