Good morning everyone. I didn't get a chance to post yesterday but my Friday weigh in weight is: 149.6 so I'm looking at about a 2.5 lb drop!  I'm very excited!

My plan is since we're on Winter Break and all the kiddos are gone, and all my grading is done, I'm going to try and get more work out time, but alas - I have come down with an awful cold and I'm not sure I'll make it to the gym. :(   I"m flying out to Oregon on Monday to visit my family. I'll have to try and get some exercise in while I"m up there or I'll be sure to gain a ton! My mother certainly likes to cook and buy me lots of sweest when I'm home.

I had a friend who took a spinning class and she said it was torturous.  I don't think I'd survive it! I stick to my elliptical and weights. :)

For a long time I absolutely couldn't drink water. I started adding crystal light to the water to get it down. I started out following the instructions and slowly weaned myself off of it (adding less crystal light to more water). Now I can drink plain water but it must be cold - I can't drink room temp. It helps that my job requires excessive talking (teacher) and therefore water makes class a lot easier.

 

Does anyone have any recommendations for weight lifting? When I work out I usually do about 30-35 minutes on the elliptical (mountain or hill climb, generally 2.5 - 3 miles and burn between 350-450 calories). I've started adding the weight machines to my workout but am really new to them and am unsure as to what is best. I don't want to "buff up" but I know that muscle burns fat longer and is better.

So should I be doing more weight, less reps? Or less weight, more reps? That sort of thing.

Hello, I'd like to join!

 

I'm 5'2.5" (that half inch is important! Wink )

Currently weigh 152 lbs (as of a week ago). I think at least some of that is muscle because I gained 8 lbs after I started working out a month and a half ago. My current goal is 130 lbs for now. After I reach my goal I'll consider dropping it to 120. I really just want to be able to fit back into my size 6 jeans again (which I could wear just a year ago...).

Hey guys. I'm still motivated - sort of.  I weighed at 129 right before Thanksgiving....and now I'm back at 135!! :/   Also been eating a LOT of sodium so I have to try and cut that back too.

I think I'll be more likely to try when I'm working for money again and can afford to buy more healthy foods instead of having to live off things that fit in my non-existant budget.

 

How's everyone else doing?

I've been sticking to my plan pretty well. Exercising not as much because my exercise partner has a lot of stuff going on lately and I've had a lot of asthma problems so I'm avoiding exercise for a little bit - doctors orders - but I'm being good food wise.

I am able to fit into a pair of pants I haven't worn in over a year and a half so I feel GREAT!! :)

Hey guys! Where's everyone been (myself included)??

The good enws is that I broke 133 on Friday and made it to 132.6!!!! I hope I  didn't compeltely undo myself this weekend, its been crazy. Hopefully this losing streak will continue now!

juliya - you just gotta be careful cutting out carbs because once you start eating them again if you're not careful you'll just gain back all the weight you lost.

I don't know what my weight is - I'll find out tomorrow because didn't have a scale this morning...BUT I did put on a pair of pants yesterday that I haven't worn in about a year...and they FIT! :O They were a size 5!! I haven't worn a 5 in I don't know how long (damn thighs)!!! I'm excited!!: )

 

EDIT: Okay so toady I weigh in at 134.5.  I'm gettign frustrated because I keep bouncing in the 133 and 134 range and can't seem to get below that. However I'm actually wondering if it's possible that I'm not eating enough?? 

I haven't been logging my food in lately because I've been so busy I can barely get online to do more than check my email, but I'm eating about the same as before. A friend said that maybe I need to up my calories to get myself to lose weight when she realized that by upping her calories she got off her plataue (sp?) and managed to lose again. 

When I checked the tools it says that for light exercise I need about 1400 a day. I work out 3 times a week, and when I'm teaching I do walk around the room during class, and I am standing about 1/3 of the time. I teach sitting down because my mentor teacher has the thing set up to be on a table because she can't stand for more than about 30 minutes at a time. But even so - I try to walk around the room during the daily warmups, quizzes, and during homework time (all in all about 30 minutes of the 90 minute class). 

I've been basing everything on a 1200 calorie day - because I based it on being sedentery. Would I be considered light activity instead? Or would you say light some days and sedentery others? I feel sedentary on the days I don't work out. 

 Grrr... I just want to get back to losing again!!

So I think that Monday weigh in is going to end up being a problem. LoL  I tend to spend Sunday nights at my bfs because he lives closer to my job than I do and I get more sleep if I sleep at his place. But he doesn't have a scale. So I think I'm going to have to just weigh in on Tuesdays since we both spend Monday night at my place since he has class on Tuesday and the university is on the way to work from my house (he doesn't have a car at the moment). So... unless I start toting around my scale (not going to happen I don't want to look THAT obsessed) I'm going to have to delay weigh ins until Tuesday. 

I hope I do okay. I feel really full right now and bloated but I had soup a grilled cheese sandwich and some tea for dinner. So I just have a lot in my stomach. Blah. But I won't be eating much else tonight except maybe some mroe tea this evening. 

 right now I'm going to find a way to get rid of this nasty migraine I've got coming on.

juliya - what is your weight and height?  one option is to try not to eat back all your calories when you exercise. Just make sure you aren't burning everything you eat but when I find myself not budging for awhile I try not to eat back my exercise calories and that will sometiems jump start it.  Also

 

figurethefat - your mom lives in Ashland?? I'm from Oregon originally! I grew up in the Astoria / Seaside area, but I also lived in Medford and Grants Pass and Eugene! thats my home state. :)

Hey guys. I missed weigh in on Monday because I was at my boyfriends place and he doesn't have a scale but I weighed in today. I'm at 133.6. :)  Did much better last week and I plan to keep it up this week as well!!   I've got bronchitis so not gym for a day or two but I can still eat healthy. :)

 

Lets all have awesome weeks and drink lots of water!!

hey guys! Just stopping in to see how everyone's doing. I made it through my very first day of my own class to teach! I survived!! :) LoL

wantobefit & wantobehot - thats AWESOME. great job on the marathon. You guys amaze me every time. 

I've managed to bring myself back down from the 136 that I had gained over last weekend to 135. Its taken most of the week. I hope to be below 135 by Monday. I just have to stay STRONG over the weekend!

Everyone stay strong through the weekend and DRINK YOUR WATER! :)

Well I weigh in at 136.2 today. Up a pound from last week but that was what i expected.  I'm on track to being good this week though!  Yesterday I cooked up some fish and other foods to eat throughout the week so that I won't have an excuse to eat out, and today when I didn't have much choice (teacher staff development day - no place to put a cold lunch) I chose to eat Subway and stay on the healthy choices!   I swear the first 7lbs I lose was so much easier than it is now!

lilness - welcome back!! We are always here to give encouragement and inspiration! There are days i know I wouldn't keep going if it wasn't for this group! Congrats on teh engagement by the way! I know that you can lose that weight again! You did it once...you can definitely do it again!! :)

Hey guys. I've had a crazy weekend. My friends and her husband had a bad fight so she stayed with me, which meant a couple nights of wine and greasy food and popcorn and movies. I knew I wasn't doing so well but what can I say...a girlfriend is more important than weight loss.

Next week WILL be a good week!! :)

hey everyone! I've got myself a new working computer. Yay!!

I had to skip the gym for it, but I plan on going Tomorrow and again on Saturday. Tonight I have a massage scheduled (I work at a massage clinic so I get employee discounts). I desperately need it!! Yay!!

And all week I've been able to keep in my calorie range!

Good evening ladies. My computer officially died on me today so until I get a new one (hopefully in a day or two because I desperately need one to be doing my lesson planning and keeping in touch with my student teaching supervisor) I'll have to use the university computers and its SUCH an inconvenience. So if you don't see me for awhile, thats why. Hope to have this problem worked out by Wedneday. *fingers crossed* What terrible timing...right after paying $1,000 to fix my car!

As for weigh in...I was at 135 this morning. Up a pound from last week. Probably a result of my weekend. Ugh. But I am going back to the gym this week after having several days off so hopefully that will jump start some weight loss!!

I am going to try and get more water. I've only managed to get down about 60oz today.   Does water drunk in the form of tea count as water??

For a water challenge we could report either daily or weekly how much water we drank (daily might be hard unless everyone logs on daliy) and at the end of the week see who has had the most?  Not sure how I like the idea but its a suggestion..

Hey guys! I think a water challenge would be a GREAT idea! I used to get down almost 100 oz a day and now barely hit 50. Thats still good but not good enough by my normal standards. An exercise challenge woudl be great but I probably wouldn't do much more than I already am (3 days a week, approx 45 min a day). I just don't have time for more than that.

I'm having a rough time today. I had Jimmy Johns for lunch, which isn't too bad except the sodium is REALLY high. But then went to the movies and ended up eating a lot of popcorn. Oops. I'm still not over but thats with me guessing at how many calories are in the popcorn. 

BUT I made it to the grocery store so I can eat some healthy food now!!! :)

Good morning ladies! I'm at 134 even today! :)

Today is my long day. I teach 8am-4pm and then go straight to my "job" (the one that pays me that is) until 10:30pm. Here's to hoping no idiots scheduled new clients at the last hour so I can get out "early" (meaning 10:20 as oppossed to 10:45. I am not going to let myself eat otu today! This is usually the day I do but since I went out last night, I'm going to force myself to be good! Besides I get out of school a little early because my mentor teacher has to leave early (our last block is prep) so that gives me time to go HOME and get food. I want to get down to 133 by Monday. 

Sherry - thats awesome that you had a great time in San Fran AND lost a pound! I can't wait to hit my goal and go and buy myself some new, SMALLER clothes!! If only I could get these THIGHS down! :)  :-)

Is it a bad thing that I can go to Wendy's and eat a Jr Cheeseburger (320 calories) and a side salad (35 calories) in the middle of the afternoon and STILL be short of my 1200 calories at the end of the day??   Before I started counting I think I rarely hit 1200, and its not because I'm trying to avoid food but because I eat things that are pretty low in calories and/or I'm just not hungry. When it comes to maintainance time I'm going to have a rough time eating enough without eating unhealthy foods.

In response to madhul:

1) I'm currently using a 1200-1400 calorie intake. I stick as close to 1200 as possible. When I work out I'll allow myself more, but I try not to eat back everything I burn as long as I'm around 1200 net.

2) I go to the gym 3 times a week and spend 45 minutes on the elliptical. I'm working up to an hour. I try to burn approximately 10 calories per minute according to the machine.

3) I try to drink half my weight in ounces minimum in water. So if I weigh134 I try to drink at least 68 oz that day min. But I like to try to reach 75 minimum.

I also make sure I get as close to 30g of Fiber a day. Thats really important.

I weighed in at 135.2 this morning. Slightly up from a few days ago but I'm not upset. I know where that weight came from. Problems in my family aren't any better than they were yesterday, but I am not going to let it keep affecting me.

My goal is to hit the 134 range by next monday. If I can keep away from Taco Bell I think I'll be okay! 

The guy I'm seeing today made a comment that I was getting skinny. He was helping me stretch after my work out and while trying to work out some pain in my hip, he could feel my hip bone. He's worried I'm going to "lose that ass". LOL!! Its good to know that someone is noticing.

Does it ever feel unreal to you? like you see the scale moving but you can't really believe you're actually losing weight?

Good evening.

I did manage to make up my calories last night. But today I'm a mess - I will however give credit for that to the fact that my family (who lives 2,000 miles away from me) is in a crisis and I feel awful I can't be there. Its a mess but I'm going ot TRY and stay within my 1200-1500 range today. I won't stay in 1200 because of my breakfast put me way over (pancakes lol) but I'm going to STAY healthy the rest of the day at least! :)

blackcrane - Don't you LOVE it when someone says something like that?? Just the other day a friend of mine looked at me and asked if I was losing weight (I haven't told more than one or two people about trying to lose). It made me feel awesome to know that someone else was noticing! :)  Just makes it that much easier to keep going.

Ann thats awesome about your 22 mile run!!

 

So its about 5pm and I have only had 300 calories for the day! :O  That was by no means intentional!! I slept in because its my only day off, then had to run errands and by th etime that was done I had time to eat a granola bar and meet my friend at the gym for our Saturday Work Out. While there I burned 400 calories on the elliptical (according to the machine, so I would say closer to 320 reality). I got home and took a shower, and ate an apple and haven't really been hungry at all! Now I have to force myself to eat for awhile or I'll never come even close to 1200. Technically I'm actually in the negative because of my work out.

Funny how I feel so guilty when I go way ver, but I feel even more guilty on days that I end up like this and I'm not hungry at all but I have to force myself to eat. LoL
