believe it or not i got all my patterns from walmart the week after halloween. all the costume patterns were on sale. i was able to mix and match pieces of different costumes and some pieces bought at stores to make a lovely semi gypsy peasant number that hopefully by this years renfest will be too big for me lol.

congratz hon. good to hear you're so happy. I make my own costumes. and generally everyone elses that goes with us lol so my septembers are always booked up with my sewing machine. i started sewing after not really having more than home ec in high school and didn't really know what i was doing. i started practicing by hitting the clearance cloth table and seeing what i could get cheap so that if i made a mistake it wouldn't kill my pocketbook :D but now my confidence is getting really good and i've even made a few costumes without benefeit of a pattern.

just find you a good simple pattern and give it a go and see what happens. start with regular tops, and skirts and see what all you can make. stuffed animal pillows are fun too just follow the instructions on the pattern, i know its sometimes greek. but you can work it out :D

don't feel so bad hon, i'm back to the site after being gone 6 weeks and during that period i gained 8 pounds...... its alot to put on in such a short time but i'm back now and hoping to make it better... i know about 5 pounds of it is water weight because i LOVE salt... on everything just about. so don't give up hope and just keep on truckin lol. when i was on track i would give myself saturdays for my junk food cravings and it really helped alot giving myself an extra 1000 cals that one day because i knew i could hold to it the rest of the week if i had that one day. my worst addiction is cream cheese, queso, and chocolate. queso with nacho chips. but portion control really helps there, i allow myself a bit for lunch with a salad. besides I've heard alot of folks saying that a bit of dairy in your diet specially first in the day is really good for your metabolism

so don't be too hard on yourself and know theres others out there with the same problem

share with family!! we had a friend give us an entire deer one year after hunting season and we just didn't have the room for it so we shared the wealth with family and friends. also invest in a cooking scale, from what i've seen counting my calories (i love steak too) its about 120 cals to every 3 oz of beef if you trim the fat. give or take 20 cals (its always a guesstimate)

try taking your measurements and watching where you're losing, it makes it lots easier when calculating what parts you want to work out to slim.  once a week i measure my bust, waist, hips, thighs, and upper arms. clothing size is your hip measurement minus 20 (minus 25 for some newer clothes thanks to vanity sizing)

I'm pretty lucky in the guy dept, he's thin too but he came into our relationship with healthy eating habits and will eat whatever I cook for my diet lol. If i make a salad he looks over at it and wiggles his eyebrows "mmmm can I have a bite?" hes a veggieholic but likes meats too, and darn him he's built like that with a perpetual tan (cajun)

you could find an activity to do with him on the weekends that doesn't involve food, bowling, swimming, camping, or even shopping. and when you go out you can always eat responsibly as many restaraunts have health foods now. OR you could make the evening special by making dinner before you go out.

welp I've got my goals set for this ren faire and i think i can do it, 155lbs by oct 28. the ultimate goal is to be down to 120 by next year so i can go as a belly dancer.

If theres one thing i have learned from going to the faire its this, just because it comes in your size doesn't mean it'll look good lol. saw a woman there one year that was as big as me in a chainmal bikini with nothing but a thong under *shudders*

Weight Loss So what does that mean? Sep 06 2007

yes i lose quicker cutting out sugar too,

and its most likely water weight that made you go up. i was stuck at 169 for a few days, andthen one morning (i had skipped salting my foods the day before) bam i was at 166. apparently my water weight was sitting there while my fat was dropping.

heres a typical non-maintenance day for me:

7 am Breakfast: 3-4 scrambled egg whites seasoned with garlic and onion powder, buttered whole wheat toast, and 1/2 cup of milk (sometimes substitute the buttered toast with sugar free maple and brown sugar oatmeal)

10am midmorning snack: grapes, nectarine, or plum with light vanilla yogurt fruit dip

1pm Lunch: ham sandwich with tomatos, pickles, and lettuce (substitute lowfat ranch dressing for mayo) 8 oz of diet green tea

4pm Midafternoon snack: 100 cal pack of chex mix (cheddar cheese)

7pm dinner: 6 oz of some meat(steak pork chops chicken etc..) 1/2 cup of green vegetable (green beans, asparagus, spinach, salad) and 1/2 cup of milk

occaisional Movie snack: 1 cup lowfat sugarfree ice cream, and i'll occaisionally treat myself with 1 tablespoon of my fave topping.

drinks throughout the day: diet mountain dew, diet green tea with citrus, and water

before bed: (i can't sleep on an empty stomach) 1/2 cup of milk

I include an ice cream cal budget every day, i buy the lowfat sugarfree, and allow myself 1 cup with sugar free topping. its still cal heavy but not so much as a regular ice cream and i get what i want.

If you're going to the TEXRENFEST, Heres a bit of advice, camp on the grounds. the traffic is sooooo bad getting out of there at night its crazy. we leave friday eve, set up camp and set the battery alarm clock for 7 am (not that you need it with the train goin through bout that time blasting its horn) we plan on going thursday this year and leaving monday morning sometime, beats the heck out of the traffic woes. plus you get to enjoy the drum circle three nights in a row, (you don't want your kids there after about 9:30pm but till then its okay everyone behaves.) about everyone i have met there has a saying lol, what happens at Renfaire, stays at renfaire. and yes it is kid friendly if you avoid the sea devil tavern, thats the only place as far as stuff that may not be suitable for kiddos. the great thing is if you have something you want to see at the sea devil, the joust field is right across from it and the kids can go see that while you watch your show :D.

I had the opportunity to lug toddlers through the ren faire.  and while i enjoyed sharing it with my kids. its much more fun now that they're older. the trick was lugging the baby lol, we had to find a wagon for her.

TRF Rules!!  the BF and i always go the weekend of halloween cause you see tons more costumes than the other weekends since everyones dressing up for the costume contest.

I got a couple of my TRF pics in my gallery.  feel free to check em out.

time to start on costumes but i don't know if my daughters BF is gonna get to come with us. he got to come last year so we're keeping our fingers crossed. we're giving him and sort of baggy pirate look.

I'll be going as my usual gypsy wench (which is so much fun to harass the guys with cleavage and bright red lipstick)

the BF will be his usual leatherclad self (rowr) theres something about a man in black leather that just...... **drool**

I would have to say my fave is bellydance aerobics, I used to bellydance in college, rolling the quarters up and down my stomach and balancing stuff on your forhead while ya do it and it was always so much fun, plus its great excercise for the waist down, if you incorporate hand weights you can work in some upper body motions too
