Fitness Injuries and pain from running? Apr 13 2009

It sounds like you have a groin injury.  This can happen from sprinting or running fast, especially if you didn't warm up or haven't been stretching.

You really need to take some time off running or you will make it worse.  A groin injury is a torn muscle fiber.  You need to ice it and give it time to heal.  If you don't give it time to heal, it will get worse.  I would also go see your doctor if it hurts to walk and have him refer you to a physical therapist.

I had a groin injury a few years ago and it's something you really need to take care of.  It's the worst injury I ever had from running and I've been running for over 15 years.

Sorry this happened to you, but running really is great normally.

I ran 12 miles on Saturday and it was tough!  ~ about 1200 cals.

I ran 6 miles this morning and I felt better, because as difficult as it's been, I've been counting my calories and doing good for the most part.  I'm really trying to get in more protein, because I seem to have this addiction to simple carbs and I'll end up eating all my calories with very little protein, so I'm trying to get the protein in earlier in the day and so far it has helped me to feel better.

~ about 600 calories

m0m6, that's no fun!

I have been so busy lately, I've been slacking on these forums, but I need to get back into it.  I've been exercising, but my eating is in the toilet.  I need to step it up and lose like 5-7 pounds....ugh.  Tomorrow is my 12 mile run, so I need to eat right today so that I can feel good while running and not awful!

ljrunner, that's amazing that you still run with fybromyalgia.

I just ran Baltimore last October and I loved it!  I have also run St. George, Utah twice, Top of Utah once, and Salt Lake City once.

I want to do Baltimore again next fall.

What training program are you following?  Do you have a time goal?  I did one of the Hal Higdon training programs for my last three.  I found that worked really well with a busy schedule and I still did good for me.

Today I ran 11 miles and burned about 1100 calories.

I wanted to do 12, but I got off to a late start this morning...maybe next Saturday my long run will go better and as planned.  The good news is that my heel seems to be doing a lot better!

I ran 4.2 miles again, which is about 400 calories.  I totally intended to get to the gym and do eliptical and weights, but woke up too late once again, so hopefully my heel will be ok for my long run.

I take Fridays off and then have to try and fit a 12 mile run in on Saturday.  I hope my heel can handle it this time.

I have done a decent job of sticking to my calories and I think that actually helps my heel when I weigh less.....more motivation to stick to plan.

I ran 4.2 miles today.  I didn't wake up early enough to make it to the gym.  My heel still isn't too bad, though.  I do need to get to the gym for weights, though.....hopefully tomorrow if my 4 kiddos don't wear me totally out!

Total cals burned: about 400

OK, so I know I said I was going to take off of running for a week, but this morning I woke up and my heel felt a lot better.  I decided to go out for a slow, 10 minute pace run and no faster.  I ran 4 miles and I think that's about 400 calories.  I felt soooo good afterwards!

My heel did hurt a tiny bit after, but not too bad, so I'm thinking gym tomorrow and then hopefully run again on Thursday.

I've decided to take a week off of running because my heel was really bothering me.  As much as I hate it, I know I would hate it a lot more if I injured it so bad that I could barely walk, which has happened to me before with an injury, so I don't want to revisit that.

Today, I lifted weights for 30 minutes and did the eliptical for only 15 minutes.  I'm hoping to increase the eliptical gradually this week, though.  I need to wake up earlier for that...hoping I can drag myself out of be earlier tomorrow!

Today I managed to get in 12 miles, but I had to walk about 3 miles of it.  I hope my heel gets better soon.  I've tried taking some time off of it, but I tend to go crazy without exercise.  Anyway, at least I got 12 in, even if I had to walk part.

I did pretty good yesterday with my calories too.  I'm hoping to do the same today and get more fiber and protein in.

This sounds like a lot of fun and like just the motivation that I need.  Mind if I join in?  I ran 3 marathons last year and I feel like I'm letting myself slip.  I've gained about 5 pounds and I really want to lose it again.  I know 5 pounds doesn't seem like much, but I really hate how my clothes are fitting at the moment.

Today I didn't wake up to exercise, but tomorrow I plan to run 12 miles if my heel cooperates.  It's been bugging me lately.  Saturdays are my long days for running.

I'm trying to track my calories too and go to the gym twice per week.  So far the gym and calorie thing need more work, but I think with the help of this group I might be able to do it!

Well, I've fallen off the wagon and I need to get back on.  I'm going back and re-reading all of this thread to motivate myself again, even though it's not very active anymore.

Yes, I need to get back on track!  I gained about 5 pounds over the holidays and if I don't do something about it I will keep gaining.  It doesn't help that my foot is now injured, so jogging isn't working out so well.  I need to really keep track of what I'm eating, though.  I'm motivated to get back down.

I'm currently 5'2" and 129 pounds (yikes!)  I want to get back to about 125 or 124.

You can really mess up your endocrine system with eating disorders.  I'd check with a doctor to see if your thyroid is still working properly.

I would try and figure it out with the doctor.  It sounds like he's not getting the proper nutrition and perhaps this makes him uncomfortable and unable to sleep well.  Or maybe there is something else going on.  Does he have other health problems?  Ear infections, throat infections?  Anything that would cause him enough pain to wake him?
