| thanks everyone:)
and yes, i know a healthy body has fat on it.
precisley why i said i dont want to LOSE any weight.
my problem is I have a few areas that have EXCESS fat;
not just a little, but noticable, and i more or less
wanted to make it more muscle mass, but i exercise alot
and haven't noticed any changes. So I was asking what
exactly i could do to make it less flabby..
sublime and treenut, thank you. I'll try some of those exercises, and hopefully it works! Want to get rid of that excess fat before summertime! I actually have very muscular, sculpted calves. its my upper/inner thighs, but and love handles that need work. I guess thats what i get from years of pigging out on too many sweets! |

hmm. 1000-1200? ok,well, they (being the scientists,i guess) have suggested that women eat no less than 1200.just pointing that out =] besides that,i can remember bieng in your exact position. when I first started dieting, i thought everytime i overate, id ruined my diet. OPPOSITE OF CORRECT (which is wrong, incase you didn't get that.im not trying to call you stupid, but lotsof times when i say that, people dont understand waht im getting at..) first of all, you'd had to ahve eaten 3500 mroe than you burn to gain a pound, so dont worry about any weight gain. Second? one night of overeating wont kill you. i "overeat" probably once every 2 weeks, and i dont even give it a second thought anymore. I usually overeat and fruits and veggies anyways; and i hate restricting myself to a certain amount of calories; it always makes me over eat in the end. I eat whenever im hungry, just instead of reaching for cookies, pastries and granola bars, i go for rice cakes, fruits, veggies, and healthy snacks. |

hmmm..this is not to say nobody noticed; i went from 150 pounds(beginning of august) to 129(now)..and nobody said one thing, well,my family did within the last 2 months. but none of my friends noticed. I confronted one of my friends about it, and she said that most of my friends had talked about it, and just decided not to say anything, incase i got offended by thier comments. Im not sure how it would be offensive to hear that id lost weight, but i guess some people would think of it as offensive. so maybe thats why noone at school has commenting?fear of you being offended? |

hmm..Actually, once you start exercising, you may not even worry about it being fun, because it just gives you such a good feeling, even running on the spot makes me happy. but to start, i suggest maybe just walking in the park, taking a run... even dance dance revolution? lots of people on this site get angry when i suggest it, but ive researched and on the more advanced levels, you do get a vigorous workout. I used to play at the expert level for 1hr20mins a day, and i definatley got results. also, you can join a raquet club or something.squash&tennis are very hard, lots of work involved, but very fun. |

| Weight Loss | replacing grains with fruit and milk- nutrient deficient? | Jan 06 2008 05:48 (UTC) |

hmm.. I don't know much about it, but someone had posted a similar post in a forum a few months back, and i remember researching it, and reading on a website that cutting out carbs(which is essentially what your doing when you aren't eating grains, right?sorry if im wrong..) and living on a low-grain, low-fibre diet actually won't effect some people. I guess everyone's body really is different, and reacts in different ways? I read one major problem with low-grain, low-carb diets is not enough fibre, which results in..digestive issues. But I guess it may not affect you. If your taking multivitamins, they should be effective, according to some two, random sweedish doctors that made a report about supplements for vitamins,fibre,etc.. um,sorry i didnt help much.just thought id throw this out there. |

| Weight Loss | Worried about my lunch date at the Olive Garden | Jan 06 2008 05:33 (UTC) |

| hmm..well, i've read up on a lot of resturants menus, only to discover that salad at resturant is one of the worst things for you; its usually soaked in dressing a covered in cheese. I read on a website..i can give you the html address later when i remember where i put it, that the average salad at any big-chained resturant(olive garden, swiss chalet,applebees,etc..) has around 1300 calories, but different salads range anywhere from 700-1700. What i suggest? Ask for dressing on the side, and then instead of just pouring it onto your salad, dip your fork into the dressing, then get some salad on your fork, and then eat it, and just continue to dip your fork into the dressing everytime you take a bite. I did a little experiment and found i used about 1/4 the amont of dressing i used before, saving me tons of calories. Also, ask if they have any low-fat low-cal salad dressing options?but remember, its just one day, so dont sweat it if you over eat one day. | |||

I don't think anybody has mentioned this yet, but although number of calories consumed are very important for dieting, so is looking at the daily percentages of fats and carbohydrates,etc.. I mean, most packaged pastries, chocolates, and fastfoods are LOADED with fat and carbohydrates. For example: 1 Snickers bar:   ; &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; &n bsp;   ; 273 calories. Total fat:14.0g(22%DV) (26%DV saturated&trans fats) Total Carbohydrates: 33.7g(11%) so if your on a 2000 calorie diet, you can have 7 mars bars a day, and that will put you at 1911cals. So, your still under your calories, yes..but what about the fats? you now have 154% of your daily needed intake of fats, ad 183% of your daily needed intake of saturated and trans fats. And although your only at 77% daily needed value of carbohydrates, most of these come from sugar, not fibre. So although by eating 7 mars bars a day, you would still be under your suggest daily caloric intake, the amount of fats put into your body are more than 75% over the suggested intake of fat. And your body will not be able to burn that much fat EVERYDAY. there's more to diets that strictly calories. |

First of all, I want to give you a HUGE virtual hug. I think it's amazing that you are thinking about her health already; most parents (that I've talked to, anyway) think "they'll grow out of it" or "It's just baby fat". But I don't see that there is a real way to determine wether a child will end up losing that extra weight with age, or if they will continue to gain weight. I think you should get her into healthy eating and excercise. I'm not telling you to put her on a diet, to me diets are senseless; "a limitation on the amount a person eats for reducing weight" (dictionary.com). When someone says the word diet, i do think of someone limiting what they''re eating; i think an appropriate term is "lifestyle change" which to me does NOT mean limting what you eat; eat as much as you want! Just make sure it's healthy. So if you're changing your lifestyle, maybe she will want to follow what you're doing? kind of like yor her role model. Or seriously just sit her down, and talk to her about health; im not telling you to tell her she's fat, by any means, i just mean, talk to her about the importance of health foods, and daily excercise. I wish my mom would've! and then maybe sing herup for a sport? It could be something fun; figure skating, tennis, badminton, HORSEBACKRIDING(really works your legs), dance, or CHEERLEADING. it doesnt necessarily have to be something like soccer, and that. |

| I know how you feel! My favourite cereal on earth is this cereal that is granola, with dried berries. Knowing it was probably high in calories, I chcked the back, and saw it was only 120 cals. Now, usually cereal is mesured (in servings) as 3/4 cup (or 1 cup). Well, I assumed that it was 3/4 a cup, when really, it was for 1/3 a cup. So I definatley at 360 instead of the 120 i thought. Luckily, I caught my mistake the next day, and haven't eaten so much of it since! | |||

I'm nto going to tell you not to feel bad; because I know how you feel, and even though people tel you not to, you're still going to feel guilty. Right now, im going to point out to you the bright side(s) to this situation: 2800, although (i assume) a lot higher than your normal calorie consumption, is not THAT much. I mean, i'm almost certain it takes 3500 to gain an actual pound of fat. So you didn't even do that much damage. 2and, I'd just like to point out that you're feeling guilty. Although I know feeling guilty about every little thing you eat isn't good (Im not certain, but I think thats supposedly one of the signs of an eating disorder) You should be happy that you are feeling guilty about consuming above your daily needed calories. now DONT GET ME WRONG; im not BY ANY MEANS teling you to obsess and feel guilty over everything you put in your mouth; but by you saying you feel guilty by eating a whole bunch of unhealthy things, is showing that you've made a lifestyle change. What do I mean by this? I bet you before your started your diet/eating healthy, you would never have even thought TWICE about eating those brownies. 3rd; I'm glad to hear that your going to be good tmrw. I have somewhat of a bad day today, i think i ate around 2000cals, whereas i normal do 1200-1500. So ill eat haelthy and make sure I stay within my limits too :) |

| I kind of understand what your feeling; only Instead of binge days, I'll have days where I hardly eat at all. If I'm stuck at a certain weight for awhile, or i look in the mirror one day and dont like waht I see, i'll skip breakfst and lunch and any snacks, and onyl eat dinner, and drink water. And I promise myself the next day ill aet healthy, but i end up not eating again. Thankfully, I found a friend on this site that knew what I was going thorugh, and helped me get through it. And now im doing it less and less. If you need to talk, msg me. And I might be able to help. Although I've never binged, so I don't know if this will work, but try to binge on fruits and vegetable? i bet it would cut the calorie intake nearly in half. Or excercise when you feel the need to binge; if tis brought on by emotions, remember that exercise makes you happy, and you MIGHT feel less of an urge to binge? | |||
| Weight Loss | Quitting Smoking | Dec 05 2007 21:55 (UTC) |

let yourself indulge in food; just make sure its the right food. If everytime you get a craving for a cigarette, you eat some celery(or carrots, lettuce, etc.) you're NOT going to gain any weight, because the calorie intake is so small. So you can eat carrots everytime, and if you eat a total of one cup of carrots(chopped) throughout the whole day, you'll only have taken in 52 extra calories. If you start indulging with cookies and chocolate, that's when you'll have a weight gain problem. I hope i helped, and goodluck quitting!:) |

im around 5'6.5/5'7. I realize it says thaat 129 is a Healthy weight, and any lower might be dangerous, so im not trying to get down to anything ridiculous. I actuallly set my goal to 128, I just can't get there. alicandra: when you were stuck at your weight, did you feel like giving up? Thats kinda how I feel. I know im not GOING TO, because I won't allow myself to give up, But I just feel like you know, kicking sometihng whenever I see that I still weigh the same. And yes, i am at a good weight, but i guess my body's kind of wierd, because I still have little lovehandles(just small ones) That i would like to get rid of :) which is why im trying to lose just a smalll amount more weight. Im not sure how much I burn; I play soccer for 1 hour, 3 times a week. Every other day I take a walk (30min-1hr) and have (atleast) 30 of aerobic dancingg :). Im not sure how much I eat, it really depends on the day. But tis nothing over 1600, I don't think. ALSO: if I should just try to tone up, instead of lose weight, please let me know. Im not quite sure what is healthy and whats not; I just know I don't want to be at an unhealthy weight. :) |

| oh yes, I do do weight training. I also do pilates, which is supposed to help tone your body. I never had HUGE love handles, but they were definatley there. But I heard they are (for some poeple) the hardest to get rid of. I really didn't want to lose anymore weight; although it says its within a healthy BMI, i dont think 120 at 5'7 would be very comfortable for me. But i really want to see results.its just really frustrating! | |||

| I know what you mean. It seems as though my mom is totally against me trying to live a healthier life style; she seems to be a little upset when I turn down a cookie or a piece of candy; and she seems to frown upon the fact that i have found a new love for yogurt(and she hates it even more that i eat No fat yogurt!). It seems almost like she wants me to stay the same as I was; I was never fat. Just a little bit overweight, and now that im tyring to get in to shape for the rugby season, she just seems to look at me with a little less respect. | |||

I'm sure you can DEFINATEY aet 1750 without being hungry. Just watch what your eating! If your having a granola bar, try eating carrots instead. you can eat 1 cup of chopped carrots, and it's 52 calories, and say 1 granola bar is around 120 cals, you can eat 2 cups+ of chopped carrots, with the same amount of calories as a granola bar, and you will feel WAYY more full than if you had just had a granola bar, so you wont have to eat anything else. Im sure you COULD eat 1750 if you just looked at the choices your making; replace snacks (and dinners) with lower calorie foods, so you can eat more, BE FULL, while still consuming less calories. I hope thishelps! and good luck with your weightloss :) |

Maybe I should be posting this in its own seperate Post, but heres my question: Is there even such thing a "starvation mode"? My question is, if it exists, how are people capable for being anorexic? and if it does exist, what does it mean, really? |
