I admit, there is one time where I judge: That person (you've all seen one) who lifts one pound of weight two inches off the ground for three reps. People who don't try. They're there just to say they went. That drives me nuts! But normally, I'm with the majority on this one - "way to go!" If you're actually at the gym to get healthy, I think that's the coolest thing. It's really intimidating to work out sometimes. I know people think I'm a snob at the gym, because I'm always staring at myself in the mirror or watching other people, and I'm a healthy weight. I can tell people think I'm judging them. But I'm either a) checking my form so I don't hurt myself or b) seeing if they're judging me. Just a little insight from a percieved gym snob. |

| Hmmm. . . I want to stop being embarassed when the bottom of my shirt creeps above the top of my jeans. I want to be be able to see my hips again (they're under there somewhere!) My boyfriends parents just bought a beautiful beachhouse. I want to stop making fake excuses on why I can't go sunbathing with them. I never want to buy underwear my grandmother would wear. I want to be able to keep up with my dog. |

| MissMichelle and Kelly27 - I'm right there with you ladies!! Like Michelle, I'm really petite and people are shocked when they hear how much I weigh. At my height (4'11"), people always think, well, I look skinny at her weight, so she must be crazy to want to lose weight - but it's about height! 118 at 4'11" looks a whole lot different at 118 at 5'7". And I can remember the day when the knees of my jeans would wear out before the thigh did! Oh, how I miss the days my thighs didn't rub together like a cricket. And at this point - "bulking up" isn't too bad since muscle burns more calories than fat does - the added muscle increases your calories-burned-in-a-day, so more muscle makes it easier to lose weight. Gaining muscle helps you lose weight. I'm right around your weight and can dead-lift 150 pounds with my legs, and they don't look all amazon-woman. Legs can handle lifting a lot of weight before they start looking creepy. I was up in the 140's with huge thighs, down to 103 with great thighs (not perfect, but pretty good if I do say so myself) and now I'm back on the way up. So that's why I'm here. Squishing those last 15 before I find myself back at 140 going "How'd this happen?" I guess the point is, no, you are not a lost cause. Remembering how I looked for those three weeks I maintained my goal weight is what keeps me going. The worst thing is you can't lose weight in just one place (thighs, not chest, right?). You lose weight all over. I remember when I did a thousand crunches, ate fried chicken every night, and wondered why I didn't have a flat stomach . . . Sigh. If only it was that easy. So, I'm still working for it. It's hard, it's painful, it's annoying, and it's soooo worth it. Don't get discouraged (myself included)! |

| I hate to say - you can be! Have you ever been so sad, that it hurts to smile? But, you try it for a few days, just smiling at anything, even though you don't want to, and then, all of a sudden, smiling gets easier? And one day, you just wake up, smiling all the time? If you want to be more positive, start thinking more positively, even if you don't mean it. I know, I know, it sounds nuts, but just try it. Really really try it. When I was younger (and heavier) I was depressed all the time. The world was blue and no one could talk me out of it. And one day, I realized it was no way to live. So I started getting my mind, my thoughts, and my body healthy, and it was the best thing I ever did. Truly. I don't know if any of this will help you, but I hope it does. |

| I totally know how you feel! My BMI is 22, I eat healthy and am watching my weight so I don't become overweight again, and I get called anorexic a couple times a month. I think a lot of it comes from jealousy - instead of watching what they eat, they try to make others feel bad about being responsible. Granted, anorexia is a real problem that does exist, but that word does get thrown around a lot. Arrrgggh! |

| Ultimately, weight loss is about feeling healthy, not being skinny. I know the magazines would tell you differently, but as a strong, intelligent female, it's important to recognize the difference. I'm 21, and I was up in the 140's in high school, and there's a lot of pressure to be super-thin. I can totally understand your frustration. I know it's hard when you look in the mirror and can't love the body you're in. It doesn't feel good. But it is so important to respect your body - you'll be in it for a long time. It's so wonderful that you've worked with a nutritionist! You have the tools to have a healthy, beautiful body! Why would you do something you know is "unhealthy and stupid," as you say? Honestly, the way to see quick weight loss it to be healthy and smart about it, instead of unhealthy and stupid. For your body, the average calorie usage is 1800 calories. That means you need to eat at the very least 1000 calories a day!!! If you eat 1300 calories a day, and exercise 500 calories off, that's two pounds a week - in a healthy, lasting way! Otherwise, your body will think that you're stuck somewhere in the desert with no food (obviously, right, since you're not eating?), and it will cling desperately to every calorie it can. And you're right - not eating is about control. It's about getting that voice out of your head. But it won't work. Because, like you said, you'll gain it back and be miserable again. Astralhippy is so right - don't take shortcuts, be healthy, and make sure you love yourself! You can definitely find a way to be happy with your body - don't give up! |

Count me in! I've never joined a group before, but I really think I need to. I'm 21, and in high school, I was quite large. It didn't help that I'm 4'11". I refused to own a scale or get a physical (I *really* didn't want to know what I weighed), but I was a size 12. Since then, I've lost seven sizes and at least 25 pounds (since I caved in and bought a scale), and it's that last 15 that I just can't shake!!! I always think of some excuse not to go to the gym (it's too early/late in the day, it'll be crowded, etc) or to eat just one more bad food (I need the energy to stay awake and study, I need to eat more this morning since I've got a night class) - you get the idea. I am my own worst enemy. It's so discouraging! And I am determined to lose it before I graduate college this May! |

| Hepburn's eating peculiarities stem from being forced to ration food by the German's during world war two. Her real vice was actually chain smoking. And, actually, the poem was one of Audrey's favorites, but was written by Sam Levenson. For all her humanitarian work, I think she's a great example of what we can do with our lives, while overcoming problems, including food. While she may not be perfect, I've found her an inspiration on my health journey. Thanks for posting this! |
