hi guys. im on phase one of the south beach diet. i was wondering if i can eat boca meatless ground beef. it contains

WATER, SOY PROTEIN CONCENTRATE, WHEAT GLUTEN, CONTAINS LESS THAN 2% OF MALT EXTRACT, SALT, WHEAT STARCH, YEAST EXTRACT, SUGAR, NATURAL FLAVOR (NON-MEAT), DRIED ONIONS, GARLIC POWDER, SPICES.

im not sure what they are. but malt extract, wheat starch, and yeast extract dont sound like things i can eat in phase one.

really, i think it is because its hot. try microwaving your cereal for a minute. i know it sounds weird, but see if it fills you up more.

haha i love any buffet.

their creamy salads and pastas.
their foccacias which are pretty much like pizzas.
their chocolate chocolate muffins.
their apple cobbler under some of their vanilla soft serve.

thats wat i get when i go there.

Hi. I'm new.

I understand that during phase 1, you are supposed to restrict carbs. But on the foods to eat list, there is products such as black beans. A serving of black beans has like 6g carbs. A serving of protein plus special k has 5g carbs, but the list says no cereal? and like double fiber oroweat and la tortilla factory tortillas have relatively low carb counts.

is the amount of carbs that im supposed to be worried about? or the type of carb and from what type of food it is coming from?

i binged. yesterday and today. i feel so bad right now. i keep blaming it on this weather. i keep saying that it is making me nauseous and i dont wnna worry about dieting right now. its just an excuse, and im so sick of myself and of excuses.

this challenge kicks my ass and im sick of failing. im sick of getting up and trying again, only to fall down 3 or 4 days later. im sick of telling myself im going to try for 15 days and fail after 6, no where close to my goal. right now, i dont even feel like getting up again.

life is kickng my ass in every way right now. schoolwork, sports, college applications, diet. im going to be gone for a week. i dont know how it will go. i dont know if i will binge or not, right now making a plan doesnt even seem worth it, bcuz ive made and cheated on them time and time again. even continuing this challenge seems pointless at the moment, i dont feel like i can do it. i feel like im letting everyone down, everyone that cheers me on, tydrop and united2gether especially.

ill be back in a week.

binge free day 6!!! whooooo hoooooooooooooo

i felt really bad and sick today tho. does anyone live around LA? well, i do. and those fires around san diego are blowing ash all over the place. its alrdy polluted and now its even worse. poor san diego ppl, they have to evacuate and everything. the air quality over there must be so bad right now. im around LA and the ash that got blown over is driving me nuts. i cant even run around the neighborhood anymore, i feel like im dying. runny nose and itchy eyes ALL DAY today. today was another maintenence day bcuz whenever im feeling sick, like runny nose, i get hungry. lol weird i know, most ppl lose their appetites. w/e. i hope the day gets better tomorrow.

shorelover. ive been in the same situation as you. maybe not for two months, probably like 2 weeks. and i HATED it. i got SO frustrated with myself. and you probably are right now too. you DONT wanna feel that way. you want to look and feel better and the only way to do that is to keep yourself from binging. stick to it. keep trying everyday and you will get better at it. it might take awhile tho. so keep trying!

oh yeah. im GOING to make it until the end of this month baby!!! 130 here i come!!

and if its for after you make it, is the volume of pb u ultimately get more or less than 2 tblsp of regular peanut butter. tell me if i dont make sense.

i know exactly waht you mean. soemtimes when i skip breakfast, i dont even think of food until lunch time. but if i eat cereal, im thinking about food the whole day. imo, its a mental thing. just know that the cereal is enoough calories and should be enough until your next meal.
or maybe because the cereal is cold? some people do better witha hot breakfast, oatmeal or eggs or toast.

binge free day 5!!

today went okaaaay. i was so sore this morning, no idea why, maybe i didnt get enough sleep. i skipped my morning run and had a big breakfast, lol doesnt make sense! but it was okay because then i skipped my morning snack. but then i had a big lunch and had my afternoon snack! haha. so i cut back on dinner and will skip my night time snack. that leaves me at maintenence level, so not too bad. no binges so thats good.

tydrop! awww...the weekend was hard for me too, i was downing diet coke and celery like crazy. but i made it through and i know you can too. its a new week and a chance to start again. if you hav a new plan, thats great, but stick to it!! you can do it.!

oh tydrop, i was thinking about buying pb2. i currently use better n peanut butter, its 100 cals for 2 tbsp. its a little sweeter than regular peanut butter, but i like it. but i was thinking about ordering pb2. is it good? hows the texture? do you use it in protein shakes? thxxxxx.

what does pb2 taste like. its lower in cals and looks like it would be really easy to use in smoothies.

binge free day 4!!!

yeayeayeayea. feeling great. i dont know why...but i CANT get rid of my vanilla soft serve cravings. for like 2 weeks i had 2 or 3 cones a day, and im still wanting them now. like today, the whole day i wanted to go to hometown buffet just to eat like 10 cones or something. but i had no one to go with so i didnt go. and now that im reviewing my day, im REALLY glad that i didn't go, cuz i know i probably wouldve went over my caloires. lol. but i still want vanilla soft serve!!

restless_girl. i know that exact feeling. once i go over my calories on any one meal, the cravings get even stronger for the rest of my meals. fight through it! they will go away the next day when you start off with a good breakfast. 1000-1500 calories isnt super bad, so dont stress it too much. tomorrow is a new day so work ahrd to make it happen!

h8ylylouise. thats a LOAD of food. at some point, you probably werent even enjoying it. tomorrow is a new day however, so work hard to make it a good one!

binge free day 3
low on calories at around 1:00 today. so i went to costco and had some of their nonfat  yogurt. wowowoowowowowow, it was so good. still under calories but felt a little guilty. so i went to the gym, worked out, came home and had a burrito. today was good. i felt a little hungry around 8:00 so i had some iceberg lettuce. very little calories so not a binge imo.

im gona try not planning my meals anymore. i dont know. sometimes i feel like i NEED to in order to not go crazy, like i did today with the nonfat yogurt. but sometimes i feel like i just need to eat when im hungry and dont eat when im not, which means i shouldnt have a scheduled eating plan. lets c how it works tomorrow. even if i do splurge because i dont have a meal plan, i will stay under my calories.
everyone else stay strong! thx for the advice carrlove, i think it helped. day 6! thats amazing, keep up the good work.

hmmmm

hometown buffet!! hahah. saturday nights only. this is their rib night, and it is sooooo good. and their steak is actually good on saturday nights too. their macroni and cheese is the best ive ever tasted. and the unlimited soft serve is awesome! and the cheesecake and chocolate chip cookies and chocolate brownies of course.

yeah, but i hav to stop going there. cuz i dont wanna get fat :(

eeeeeek. today was so hard for me. i dont know why it was so hard. ive gone a week without binging before, and i remember that while i was doing it, it wasnt this hard. even now when i am patting myself on the back for not binging, i wanna go to the fridge and make a sandwhich or eat a bowl of cereal. i shouldnt be hungry cuz i ate 1700 calories today and i didnt exercise much. i even had ice cream today. gaaaawwwddddddd. this is just making me feel that tomorrow is going to be even harder. and i dont hav school tomorrow, so im going to be home all day with that tempting refridgerator. why is this soooooooooooooooooooooooooo hard!!!

i got sick yesterday. i shudnt hav used it as an excuse to eat a lot, but i did. wasnt bad food though. just bowl after bowl of chicken noodle. and a lot of pasta. so i most definitely went over my calories. probably by a lot too. but i was sick and i wasnt paying attention, i just wanted to eat some warm food so i would feel warm. lol if that makes sense. so i stayed home from school today and i feel bad about eating so much yesterday. mannn....and i wanted to make it until the end of the month too. okay. if i start again today, i can still make it to the end of the month and it will be a full 2 weeks. thats what im gona do. it is 11:30 and i hav already had 720 calories. i dont want to go over 1500, especially bcuz i probably wont be working out much today.

tydrop. we g2 stop starting over every few days :( lol we'll make it through this!!

h8ylylouise. sounds like ur getting a lot better at not binging. hows everything going? hope ur stress levels are going down. and remember that eating a lot isnt going to help ur stress, itll only make it worse! stay strong!

dammit another maintenence day!!! argh. im happy that im not going over and binging, but i wont lose any weight this way.!!! had a few extra pieces of bread and a few extra servings of cereal and im at 2000 again. shoooooot! OKAY.

i hav SCHEDULED meal plans everyday. those meal plans are scheduled according to my daily routine. good protein and carb breakfast. somewhat nutritional snack to keep me going till lunch. a sandwhich for some carbs before practice. a protein something after school to rebuild w/e protein rebuilds. then a protein dinner with some carbs to rebuild muscles after my workout. then a small snack b4 bed. its perfect! it fits everything my body needs WHEN it needs it. so i SHOULDNT be asking for more. i SHOULDNT think i need more to be satisfied. my meals are planned perfectly, and its all up to me to follow through with it. and tomorrow i WILL. i promise.

tydrop. havent heard from you for awhile, hope ur not in binge land.

carrlove. sounds like ur doing great. i say try and test urself at your professors house. the only way it gets easier is with practice. other than that, youre doing great!

haha. sounds u like u had some trouble last night. but you stayed strong and 2100 calories isnt horrible. ur days calories are a little low however, 820 calories for that whole day? in my opinion, you were asking for a binge. women should eat 1200 calories a day minimum, and guys 1500 calories a day minimum to stay out of starvation mode. so dont feel super bad about treating yourself a little, have that gingerbread man. its another 300 calories that ur body needs to stay at a healthy caloric intake. i recommend eating 1200 calories a day and c if that helps ur cravings go away.

and stress DOES make losing weight so much harder. i dont understand how people eat LESS when theyre stressed or even sick. when im stressed or sick, my mentality is like "screw it, im already down, why make myself even more depressed by passing up ice cream?" well...WRONG. passing up that ice cream would mean that i am mentally stronger and 5 minutes after i pass it up, ill be congratulating myself and be even happier than i was before. i dont know if that makes sense. but what im trying to say is to stay positive. dont think dieting or keeping from binging on unhealthy food is something you are FORCING yourself to do. you are trying to change a BAD habit and should be happy about doing it. you are not DEPRIVING yourself of anything, you are simply not choosing to stuff your face with unhealthy food, and you should be happy about that, correct?

jellybeaner. everyone here is having that problem. thats why we're here, to get rid of that habit.

i find that the hardest part of keeping myself from binging is keeping myself from thinking about my diet. i keep thinking about my next meal, what i could eat, what i cant eat, when the next meal is going to come and so forth. this just gets me more frustrated. so just try not to think about it. PLAN out your meal, and when it comes time to eat, just eat what you planned. and thats it. you make a plan for your meals everyday, you reach that meal time, you eat what you planned, and bam, mission accomplished. you do that 4, 5, or 6 times a day, depending on your meal plan,and that is one whole day binge free. my best advice tho, is to just try and not think about food. dont think that you are somehow torturing yourself, because your're not. you are doing something that is healthy for your body, and you should be enjoying it because it is a path to a better, healtheir living style.

and if you just HAVE to think about it, try thinking of it in a positive way. instead of, "man i have to wait another 2 hours to eat something." think of something like "wow. i stuck to my meal plan for breakfast, and it wasnt hard. i feel good and i cant wait to have this feeling of accomplishment again when i stick to my plan for my next meal."

stay positive.

as for me. today turned out to be another maintenence day. had a pretty big lunch. oh well, im still happy because it wasnt a binge and i was able to control myself the whole day. i finally jumped on the scale today and was 134.6 lbs. if i can stick to this no binging until the end of the month, i will lose weight. at 2 lbs a week, i can reach 130 by the end of this month. so that is my goal. to not binge for the rest of this month and to make it to 130 lbs. which means i also have to stop having these maintenence days and start cutting the calories. mealplan for tomorrow:
breakfast: eggs, ham, and toast
snack: cheerios
lunch: sandwhich
snack: bagel
dinner: dont know. maybe a turkey sandwhcih.
snack: yogurt.

binge free day 2.

ur 16 years old and ur growing.

ur 5 '10 and 120 lbs, which is an unhealthy weight. so its good that you are trying to put on weight. especially since you are a teenager, you need to be eating more to be growing.

what is your daily caloric intake? if you are feeling hungry between meals, you should eat. as an underweight teen, you probably need it. as for what you can eat, there is so much out there. bananas, apples, cereal, sandwhiches, burritos, burgers, ice cream, pasta, noodles, chicken, steak, sushi, eggs, peanuts, almonds...i could go on forever.

man i am full!!!! did i control myself? nawww..... did i eat mindlessly and try to eat the most? i didnt do that either! i ate until i was full. and then i had desert. it was a lot of cals. but i think it was a very satisfying buffet experience. i didnt go home feeling like i was going to throw up, so this was an accomplishment...sort of? i logged everything and it comes to around 5000 calories. which is actually pretty good imo. especially for a buffet day. this is what i had at hometown buffet today.
i came in thinking. okay im going to have a lot of salad. and then that will leave room for dessert. i took one look at the salad bar and i was like. yeah right, il just go for the dessert. i had 5 pieces of cheesecake, a chocolate cake, and then 8 vanilla cones....hahaha the idea was that was going to be it. and it going pretty good. but then the vanilla cones were making me freeze to death. so i was like shoot, i need something to warm me up. so i got some ribs, pizza, macaroni and cheese, french fries, and then warm cinnamon rolls...

then i was full and i stopped.
actually now that it hink about it, it was pretty bad. oh well . it was a fun night and i thoroughly enjoyed myself. do i feel bad about eating so much? yeah. but i talked to one of my friends, and we both agreed this was the last time we were going to go to a buffet. next time we go out to eat on a weekend, it will be a regular restaurant, like california pizza kitchen or something, so we wont be tempted to eat so much.

it was a really fun night. and i do feel bad about eating so much, but im not worrying about it so much right now. usually, i feel like crap everytiem i binge, but tonight, i think it will be really easy to get back on track tomorrow.

tomorrow is weigh in day for me. i know ill be regretting tonight when i step on the scale tomorrow. but tonight was also a good turning point. i talked to one of my friends, and we both agreed to start helping each other with this binging thing. basically, he's the guy that i was always competing against to see who could eat more. now that we both want to stop pigging out, we can support each other in our weight loss goals. u know that feeling where everyone knows you're on a diet. but you know that if you werent on a diet, you could easily eat more than all of your friends. and then you ahve that feeling that you have to somehow prove yourself when you guys go out and eat. well, i dont hav that anymore cuz me and my friend agreed to stop doing that. and now,  i think it will make me way stronger in this challenge. the last goal i set for myself was 7 days and i made it. with the support of my buddy, i think i can go way longer. new goal is no binging untilt he end of this month. thats only a checkpoint by the way, not a goal that when i accomplish i get to binge.

ur advice is great. it makes total sense. i can TOTALLY picture myself succeeding tomorrow.

but i always do this. i always tell myself im going to take it easy. but im a guy. and when ur at a buffet with other guys, its sooooo different. its like basic INSTINCT to go crazy. to eat the most. to see who can fill more plates in the last amount of time. and then still hav room in their stomach for bowls of ice cream and plates of cheesecake.

hahaha. i dont think u understand what im talking about. i really dont either. i dont know why it happens. ive gone to buffets b4 and ive told myself i WONT pig out before, but it always happens. i always want to be the one that eats the most. it makes no sense, even to me.

but. how can i really enjoy life and the company of friends and eating out with them if i cant learn to control myself? and how can i learn to control myself if i dont go out and try again? right?

but im sooooo scared im going to binge.

yiiiikes. i wish i had read the replies sooner. albertsons was having a sale....1 dollar for one of those HUGE bags....and so i bought some.......and ate them.....all today.......seriously, this binge was a long time coming. ive been craving these crunchy crackers for awhile now. everytime i go to the supermarket, i see the cheeze itz, and the chex mix, and the wheat thins, and all those good snacks. and this sale gave me an excuse to buy it. i shouldnt have given in...but i did. i said i was going to control my portions, measure out 1 cup and put it back in my cupboard. well....i ate 2 bags, and went over my calories by 2000.

definitely a binge, but outta my system. hopefully wont come back anytime soon.

i guess that puts me back at day 0... :(
oh well. ill start fresh towm.

btw. sometimes i feel better that i binged when i come on here and find out that someone else has binged. then im like...ill just binge and we can start over together...that STUPID. NOBODY DO IT.

anyways, i hav another problem. my friends invited me to a buffet towm night. i hate my friends :( just kidding. what should i do. it is VERY hard for me to control myself at a buffet. i just cant do it. im thinking about saving up the whole day just for the buffet. and if this was the old me, i cud easily eat 6000 cals plus at a buffet. what should i do!!! its hometown buffet, and towm is rib night...my favorite...eeek. its so easy to just stuff those FLUFFY biscuits down into your mouth. and then the pizza, ribs, fried chicken, and VANILLA SOFT SERVE. omg!!!!!! should i just not go?
