Could the hot flashes then have been coincidental, since you are still having them after stopping the fucothin?
  Could it be something else?

Have lost a couple pounds.  Which is good for I don't want to go any lower than 1400 calories per day.  I am walking and/or biking which is also a plus.
I must say the Fucothin does something. Especially for someone who has yoyo dieted for some 20 or so years and who's metabolism is less than what it used to be.
No side effects.  Jewlery is loose again even in this hot muggy 90+ degree heat.  Yay Fucothin.

Hi Everyone,
Its 07-19-2008 and I have begun Fucothining again.  I am lowering my calories too.  I have gained.  I stopped the fucothin and dieting for just a little time.  i wanted a break.
I am at 133 now and would like to see 120 or 125.  I just purchased a new pedometer and will be taking chunky puppies for many walks.
Also, am shopping for new bike.
Going grocery shopping tomorrow for all those low carb foods - organic of course!  And lots of chicken, lean beef and fishy.

   Good luck to everyone.

I began Fucothin in August, 2007.  Here is link from this site:
(Weight Loss) anybody ever try FucoThin?

Went from 150 to 130 in about 6 months with emphasis on lowered calories.
The water (8-8oz glasses every da-no colas, alcohol, juices unless counted in with calories, etc, sugary drinks, etc) helped to control my relentless need to snack (on choc chip cookies).
I am at 132 today and have considered the above product, you be slim, to see how it works and possbily offer to daughter.  I make myself the guinea piggy first, before suggesting to her, she has hashimoto's and I want to help her as much as possible.
The only prob is the cost of the product!  If I take it and buy hers, as well it could really begin to cost alot.  I will research it a bit further.

Good Luck to you (I rid myself of many allergy type reactions to foods by choosing organic as much as possible.  Sinus, migraine and acid reflux and some irritable bowel issues have pretty much vanished and I didn't have to fill all those expensive scripts my doctor gave me).

Thanks ilovegardenoflife08--I have tried a few of their products as well and have not been disappointed.
I would really like to get that book, his story is amazing isn't it?

I share the ibs problems as well.  I have kept it under control mainly with nutrition and reading what can cause flare ups.  I have never had to be treated for it since I have changed my eating habits.

I went totally off the diet, gained 5 pounds and am now motivated again.  I keep the calorie journal every day.  This helps so much.  The cookies unfortunately are still a problem.

   Good luck to you.

Thanks Lollypop61.  It sounds like you're doing everything right to me.  Just on the calories/workouts ALONE, you should be losing.

Here I lost the weight, I was happy then I slide back into the old ways.

If anything, you are following a better lifestyle than most.  But the lack of response in loss of weight,  would make me crazy.  I remember going thru some plateaus tho.  And at that point I dug in even deeper.  It became a competition of sorts.  The weight hung on with all it had - so I even went a bit lower with calories.  I would alternate one low cal day, one reasonable, one lower, then the next reasonable calorie intake day.  I did this for three to four weeks.
I have begun that again.  I have no one to blame for the gain but myself and my total lack of discipline.  I hate it.

Lollypop -

With this formula, I would consume approx 1200-1300 calories per day.  I don't know what you weigh or how active/sedentary you are, but 500 more for me would be 1800 and I would not LOSE for sure.  To maintain my weight of 130-135 I would consume around 1750 calories.
I have lost weight. I have maintained weight.
I have been on and off the fucothin.  It seemed when I increased calories to 2000, I began to gain.
I am hovering between 133 -  135 and will try to lose 7 more.

Good luck with your weight loss project.

Just to let you know, if you are more active - meaning if you actually work out three to four times a week or more- the number increases to 15 that you multiply your weight by.  I believe the formula is posted on THIS forum.

Also,  I don't have as much muscle mass as strikerz, #1 my being female and #2 I am sendentary, I believe that-muscle- also helps when trying to burn calories.   And weight loss is individual, I do hope you see results, soon.

Hi Anna,
Yes, lowered calories.  I purchased a program of prepared foods for a week of 1200 calories to begin.  I was shocked as to what the size of a portion truly is !
Then I would prepare my own meals using the portion size.

My weakness was for cookies so I would plan meals/calories to include some.  Many times I went over and had too many.  But I gave up ALL FAST FOOD.  All fried foods.  Pizza was two slices once a week. Only water and coffee to drink.  Salads.  Chicken.  Fish.  Fruit.
I was hungry. But once I began to lose, I didn't care.
It's part of dieting.  I use the formula for 13 calories per pound of weight to maintain and deduct 500 calories per day to lose weight.  It works.

I use 13 because I am not big on walking.  If you are active you use 15 x your weight to maintain.  Deduct 500 from this total to lose.

Then I have been taking way too many.  I take two at breakfast, three at lunch, then two in pm.
Still no ill effects or anything.  I think I'll cut back, tho.

I have gained two to three pounds - but I was not limiting calories at all for awhile.  I will be going back to cutting down calories.  (I would like to get to 130, so I will need to lose 5 pounds.)
I am satisfied with the results of the product.  It's me that seems to have a problem turning down certain foods that I know have nothing but calories.  Salads get a bit dull after awhile and I can't say no to many slices of pizza.
  Back to dieting for me.
    Good Luck Anna !!

Hello Pampoo,

I have answered your questions, and put them in a BOLD text.

I hope to have the other 10lbs. off   !!!  And a great "lower"  blood work-up !!!   I have prayed for God to help me...and I really found out about...fucothin by chance..at my excersise class...a magazine was given out  called, "garden of life"...and I checked into the product and began it...God has really helped me...!  Keep Going Pampoo !  A healthier lifestyle is a really good thing.

I have a question....do any of you know if "fucothin"..can also ...thin your blood somewhat?    I read this on some  sites,  on the internet,  as I am to have a colon test...I a wondering if I should stop this for about a week or so before the test... Sorry, this I cannot answer, for I don't really know.

bare with me....I really look at what you say.....as you are actually users of "fucothin"...as I am......has any of you been put on "fucothin"  by your "doctor"....or even had a "dortor"...to suggest   that you try this?  I use fucothin but not daily.  It was my own decision, no doctor suggested that I try Fucothin.

I realize,  more than likely...if I mention this to my family doctor he will probably say,  he can't say , because  if this is not FDA approved........so I would be taking this at my own risk...even if this seems safe and good for you... I suppose there can be a risk of sensitivity or allergy to anything.  I have not had any and I began Fucothin in August, 2007.

The very first thing I recall way back when, was my jewelry became looser than usual. Then a few weeks 3-6?, later the waist in my snug fitting jeans.
I continued with a lo calorie diet along with the fucothin.

But I was taking 2-3 pills at each mealtime.  So, I went thru a bottle quite fast.

Hope that helps *I am 52 and I have had problems dieting as well.  Good luck to you pam.

Hi everyone,
Holding at 134.  Still taking seaweed.  But more carbs and stuff too. Still not exercising !
Soon, when the weather is more for humans than polar bears, I want to start up the old diet again.  And see how low
 can  it  goooooooooooooo.

Glad to hear NO ONE has given up.  You cannot.  You will not succeed if you stopy trying.  Congrats to you Strikez!  Way to go!

ATTENTION:   The sites that sell a seaweed gel cap for $23 a bottle is their own version.  NOT FUCOTHIN.  I have not taken any other product other than the garden of life product.
I believe most prices average $30-35 a bottle for fucothin.

I drank only coffee or water. I eliminated many carbs such as pasta, pizza, crackers, chips, white breads/rolls, wine, ice cream,  colas, juice,  only veggie burgers with half whole wheat roll.  I ate more salad than I care to recall. Fruit.  Lean meat.  And portion size.  This is so important.
I did this for six weeks before I noticed it happening.  I continued.  I persevered. I was determined.  I wanted pizza and ice cream so bad.
I did continue with my choc chip cookie thing.  But  I drastically cut down on those as well.  NO PEANUT BUTTER.  NO.  NONE.  NO SITTING IN FRONT OF TV EVER WITH FOOD. NEVER!   Just water.  Parties were difficult at times.  But people saw I was losing weight.  I could walk away from those tables loaded with mind numbing FAT and CALORIES with more ease.
A "treat" for me was my bottle of Fiji water. whoohoo.  No pies. No candy. No wine. No pork. No sausages. No bacon.  I am at 134 and had not seen that weight since my old jenny days in 1992?

Oh, I forgot.  My BP went down a few points too.  That's whats most important to me.

 Hi there,

I am at 134 from 155 since August.  (5'4")
Normal day:  2 c coffee cream/sugar first thing
mid morning: small serving cereal or one soft boiled egg or a piece of wheat toast - or two cookies.
Lunch:  small salad, lots of greens, tomatoes, some croutons and a raspberry vinagrette, water to drink
Snacks:  cookies.  it's a vice. water
dinner:  lean, lean small portion 3-4 oz of lean meat, tons of veggies or small salad.  water
Snack:  rice cakes, fruit or cookies. water

I try to keep my calories down.  I want to get to 125. I find if I go 1300 on day, 1500 next for a "splurge", then lower on the next day it helps.  I try to stay away from sugar, bread, potatoes, pasta.
Lots of veggies, lean meat.  I have moments of weakness - I give in.  I had such a taste for peanut butter.  So I bought one of those tiny little bags of peanuts...that took care of  it.  If I had the jar of PB in the kitch, I wouldn't have stopped until it was gone.  (its really good on rice cakes with banana slices - but the calories)
So I try to keep a balance.  If it's a high calorie day I follow up with two to three low calorie days.  Lots of water.  Nutrient rich foods.  and of course:  cookies.
Keeping a calorie journal let's me know when I can cookie or not.

Where do these (poster above)  people come from?
   Don't they read the posts???

I HAVE dieted by eating healthy and throwing exercise in FOR TEN YEARS to only lose 4 pounds?

angie seems to  have the difinitive answer - that's why no one is struggling with weight issues, right? .  Just eat healthy and exercise.

Fucothin is seaweed.  Its a gelcap.  It helped me.

where eating healthy *been organic for years and exercising:  pilates, walking, swimming, yoga, weights, etc HAVEN'T DONE A THING FOR ME.  Ok?

FUCOTHIN WORKED.  I TOOK TWO to THREE AT BREAKFAST, TWO to THREE AT LUNCH, ONE OR TWO AT DINNER.    Decreased calories.

BUT IT DIDN'T TAKE TWO WEEKS.  IT TOOK TWO MONTHS. And if people don't see results in two weeks they quit.  I have been at this since August.  I have the results.

Yes I am still taking fucothin but I'm not dieting, just maintaining for now.  I've been dieting since August and I want to just take a break.  I wouldn't  mind picking up a few of the bars, but they are sold individually which isn't too economical or by the case.  Maybe I'll wait and see if they show up at my local health store.

Just be sure to give it time. It's just a couple gel caps at meal time and results didn't show up on me right away.  I persisted and it worked.

It was all so easy.  Be prepared to purchase several bottles.  There are some sites that sell them for $23 a bottle.  I suggest two or three at a time.  One bottle barely lasted three weeks for me.  I am sure my investment has been close to $275, buying two bottles a month since August.  Its a deal. Cheaper than most diet programs and the purchase of their food or other items. Cheaper than a membership at a gym Etc.  DON"T QUIT.

Good luck lolly - it took awhile to kick in for me, but once it began it just kept going (losing).

I guess I reached my goal.  I bought a scale yesterday, 134.  Ok.  Waist measuremnt hovers around 27 1/2.  Still more than I would like but a heck of alot less than when beginning back in August.  Also the very snug blouse that in July, I could not wear - is very loose.

Not taking any additional vitamins, supplements other than the seaweed, some iron at times,  occasional oregano for sinus, and sometimes an herbal concoction from new chapter for stress.

I have been so lax on watching the snax. Back to the grind, I spose.
I am so happy that for the people that stuck to it, it is helping.  Kudos to you.  There IS something about that stuff, do you agree?

It has been said losing weight requires life style changes, for sure! Mine is to watch portion size and back away from the chocolate.

Happy New Year and happy dieting.

Hello --,
Hope y'all  had the Merriest of Christmases and the New Year is good for you too.

Been bad.  Haven't gained.  Continuing seaweed regimine.  Trying to get back into dieting - restricting calories - mode.  Still not walking, mostly talking.

I am sure it will happen.  The new year brings all kinds of classes for pilates and stuff.  So, I will look for a class to take or something !

I have been eating a bit more, not exercising and haven't gained.
The only thing remotely diet-like is the seaweed gel cap.  I want to lose 10 more pounds.

In an email to me, GOL said:

It is correct that UCP-1 induction in human adipose tissue has not been documented. However, we feel comfortable to claim that that the same mechanism of action lies behind fucoxanthin' effect in humans as observed in the relevant animal experiments and will not cause any damage to humans.

Scientific studies suggest fucoxanthin from Undaria pinnatifida and Laminaria japonica possesses strong thermogenic properties, with implications for body weight reduction.† Fucoxanthin works by increasing the expression of UCP1 in white adipose tissue (WAT). WAT is the type of fat predominantly found around the belly of adults. Uncoupling proteins (UCPs) are mitochondrial transporters present in each cell’s inner membrane. Fucoxanthin upregulates the expression of UCP1 in WAT, which creates heat (thermogenesis) thus contributing to reduced WAT weight. This stimulated oxidation reduces fat in mammals, and study participants experienced a metabolic rate 18.2% higher than with diet alone. This is the first observation of a thermogenic effect through UCP1 expression in WAT from a carotenoid.

Preliminary results from a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial of FϋcoTHIN™  in 140 overweight female subjects after 16 weeks show a significant reduction in visceral fat and body weight. Study participants lost an average of 14.5 pounds of body weight which was 11.5 pounds more than the placebo group. Body fat loss was 11.8 pounds in the fucoxanthin group, compared to just 2.8 pounds in the placebo group (to be published in 2007)†*.

Clinical studies indicate an average of 6 weeks of use before significant thermogenic response is experienced; we suggest you give FϋcoTHIN™ at least eight full weeks to begin to notice changes.

Based on our clinical trial, there are no know side effects when taking FϋcoTHIN™. FϋcoTHIN™ can be taken at anytime of the day because, unlike other thermogenics, it is non-stimulant and will not cause jitters or lost sleep. (end of their reply)

Teddy is on a weight managment organic food and has lost 1/2 inch.  I, have gone way off my diet for fun and tomorrow I am back on my F-thin and some other stuff:  carb stuff and DIM every other day.  I am NOT looking forward to restricting my calories - ooo I hate that - but I have had some really good times lately and I have been eating like its a contest!!  I think I won.  Oh, I am using my walking thing in the basement for 30 -45 minutes here and there.  It's a start!  Good luck to all and good night.  (and Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Great Holidays to you)  just put the fork down and push yourself away from the table - the best exercise in the world.

Thank you so much Yodelmar - you have been soooo kind.  Yes, I must get that dog out.  He's a 12 pound yorkie with a size 19" middle.  I want to see what we both can achieve by  April.  Actually the weight was more - I began around 152-154.  I am down to 138ish - but it varies a pound or two.  I try to weigh myself late afternoon or early evening.  And since I am usually always dressed, I don't take extra off for clothing.  So, I just say I weigh 140, I've lost a good 10.  But the extra inches I've gained in waistbands is unreal.  Keep going.  It does happen.  Fucothin is a keeper for me.  (I know I wouldn't eat seaweed if that's what it took!!)

I am taking the same amount.  I'll take my chances. But to answer your questionabout a bug profile, no.  More efficient enzymes? Anything to do with metabolism?  I gotta find that article.
I have slid off the calorie watch as well.  Lack of sunshine?  But I try to keep it under control.  Clothes still baggy.  Rings still slip. And I know when I am not going to lose weight because I am taking in more calories than expending. Duh. I know it.  I just am lazy.

I miss a day here or there.  I don't notice a thing. But I have completed 16 weeks. I have lost a really good 10 pounds without exercise - and could have lost more WITH exercise.

My new "experiment" is take Fucothin, while decreasing calories and increasing exercise...or at least doing some exercise.

After some minor research I will stop buying water that is filtered thru reverse osmosis.  I will try to find natural artesian water.   I truly do not want  to drink chlorinated or fluoridated water, for that is all I drink.  I also do not want synthetic sweeteners.  Or sugary drinks. Or milk.  Maybe tea.  Mostly clean clear water.
