Well done everyone! And Maya, that's great hitting 2,500! You can finally post with us like you have wanted to. Yay! Breakfast - Hemp toast with almond butter and bananas, a fruit cup with strawberries and bananas, and yogurt mixed with cottage cheese. I'll update the rest later. I'm going to be SO busy today. We're going to have an early thanksgiving with the other half of my family this weekend so we have lots of prep to do!

Chick Fil' A is a lot better calorie-wise than most fast food joints. They're owned by good people too. They aren't great nutritionally, but if you need a quick dinner and have to hit a drive-through you could do far worse. I like the fact that they have their grilled chicken on a wheat bun. You could order that with a fruit cup and side salad (without dressing) instead of fries and a shake and have a pretty decent meal. Lots of protein and fiber for not many calories. |

Breakfast - "Whipped" banana oatmeal cooked in milk and topped with chopped dates, raw cashews, almonds, and unsalted soy nuts. I also had a bunch of hard boiled egg whites and strawberries. Snack - Honeycrisp apple with peanut butter, plain yogurt mixed with unsalted cottage cheese, and some sprouted grain pita bread. Lunch - Asian Rice Salad leftovers from Tuesday, along with some black beans, peas, green beans, and a bell pepper. Snack - Little cup of cottage cheese topped with a dollop of plain yogurt. Dinner - Whole wheat penne with sauteed and roasted vegetables (zuchinni, bell peppers, mushrooms, red onion, olive oil, sea salt, pepper), sauteed chicken breast, tomato and garlic reduction, and parmesean cheese. I also had green beans, kidney beans, a bell pepper, and peas. Snack - Yogurt mixed with cottage cheese and flaxseeds, and a small banana. |

With just that I'd say it's probobly "sedentary" or "lightly active". If you're only walking for mere minutes a day it probobly is not enough to be considered "exercise". Obviously if you start up with your daily workouts again you can bump it back up to "moderatley" or "highly" active. |

Breakfast - Two slices of Healthy Hemp toast with globs of creamy almond butter, Greek yogurt mixed with a dollop of unsalted cottage cheese, and a fruit cup with strawberries, kiwi, raspberries, and blueberries. Snack - Honeycrisp apple with peanut butter, plain yogurt mixed with unsalted cottage cheese, and some sprouted grain pita bread. Lunch - Asian chicken and brown rice salad with green onions, bell peppers, sesame oil, rice vinegar, and soy sauce, along with some black beans, peas, green beans, and a bell pepper. Snack - Apple Pie Lara Bar with organic Oikos Greek yogurt and cultured cottage cheese. Can't get enough of that stuff! Dinner - "Stuffed" baked potato (shredded chicken breast, canola oil, carmelized onions, organic barbeque sauce, tomato paste, reduced fat shredded cheddar and pepper jack cheese), green beans, peas, and organic baked beans. Snack - Yogurt mixed with cottage cheese and flaxseeds, and a small banana. Delicious day! Everything was awesome! I just wish my digestive system was more agreable. Ugh. I have been avoiding products with a lot of wheat because I think I may have a gluten intolerance. I really hope it's not dairy! If it's not plainly obvious, I don't know what I would do without it! |

I got the Ahi Seared Tuna appetizer without the creamy sauce and I also had the steamed vegetables with brown rice. Everything was great and they cooked the tuna perfectly - I like mine a little more done than the usual "sashimi" style and it was awesome. |

Meh, I'll just stay out of this. Fights are stupid - especially online. But yeah, Agru, I agree that I think it's a bit weird when all you use to reply to someone is "what are your stats?", I mean, it's really none of anyone else's business. Breakfast - Found out that we were OUT OF OATS! I made a french toast casserole with cubed slices of Ezekiel bread, milk, a whole egg, cinnamon, vanilla, and raisins. I topped it off with a "creamy almond spread" made with almond butter and plain yogurt. Had a mini-omelette and some strawberries on the side. Snack - Oikos Greek yogurt and a "fudge baby" that I made from Chocolate Covered Katie's recipe. Yum. Lunch - Guess what else I was out of? Chicken! I didn't feel like fish either, but luckilly I had something else. Tempeh! I boiled the tempeh in broth and soy sauce first, then "grilled" it with a chili rub. Once plated up, I pretty much encased it with white cheddar cheese = snowy tempeh, hahah. On the side I had some baked beans and brown rice, green beans, peas, and a bell pepper. Snack - Chobani with a Apple Pie Lara Bar. Dinner - Homemade chicken and dumplings (I went to the store). I made my own dumplings with real butter too. I had my usual veggie sides - green beans, black beans, peas, and a bell pepper with salsa. Snack - Cottage cheese and yogurt with flaxseeds, and a small banana. Woo! Great job Maya! It's awesome that you're shooting for 2,500! Your body and metabolism with both thank you. Plus, it gives you an opportunity to have even more yummies. As for the milk thing, even skim milk (90) would be higher cal than hemp, and it doesn't have a unpleasant texture or flavor. You could also try some soymilk. If you get vanilla soy some of them have up to 120 cals a cup or so. I also recommend cooking oats in milk too - makes them so much creamier and more flavorful. Oh, and don't fear the salt! Erm, the sodium really. All great chefs (of which you are one) use sodium to enhance the flavors of their dishes. Not too much, not too little, but just right. Most foods even have their own sodium naturally, like seaweed, dairy, eggs, even celery for pete's sake! Despite what some people believe, sodium will not make you "bloat" unless you're eating large amounts and are dehydrated. Don't worry Maya. At first during recovery I was getting around 3,000mg a day and didn't have side effects. That was back when I relied on a lot of packaged foods (Clif bars, Amy's frozen meals, veggie burgers, soups, etc.) but now that I cook for myself a lot more, I get around 1,800 to 2,400mg. My stomach is the only reason I don't add more. I'm really salt sensitive and so I don't want to disrupt it. Point is, salt is not the enemy - it's necessary for life! |

| Foods | Larabars vs homemade larabars | Nov 08 2009 11:56 (UTC) |
|
I make homemade ones all the time, though it doesn't stop me from buying the "real thing" since I probobly have one almost every single day. Hahah. Pros: They cost less (especially when you buy discounted nuts and dates from a bulk bin), you can control the size and shape, and you can create whatever "flavors" you want. Cons: Messy clean up afterwards, more time consuming, less convenient for quick snacks, don't have a very long shelf-life, don't come with nutritional information, and of course, you have to own a good quality food processor. I like eating both bars. I really don't compare the two since they are often very different. However, I have "copied" some of the Lara flavors and they have been pretty spot-on. |

Original Post by vanilla_swirl: I know, I love Amy's too! My favorite burrito is probably the non-dairy Beans & Rice one, but the Cheddar Cheese one is pretty good too, albeit a little salty. My favorite whole meals are the low-sodium Veggie Loaf, Brown Rice Bowl, and the Mattar Panner. I really like that all of those varieties come in the "light in sodium" option too. As for the regular Amy's, I also love the Chili and Cornbread meal and the Black Bean Enchilada. |

Wise choice on the Chocolate Coffee! I am in love with that bar. It is probobly the best out of the Jocalats (I've tried them all, sans German Chocolate) and it has a perfect balance of cocoa and coffee flavors. If you are sensitive to sweets too, it will be great for you since it's not overly sweetened and is rather bitter (in a good way), much like a dark chocolate bar. I'm not really a fan of the Chocolate Hazelnut (just not very flavorful) or the Chocolate Orange (kind of has a wierd taste going on there...), but the Chocolate Cherry and Mint are also right up there with the best of them! If you're just starting out, you might want to give the original chocolate flavor a try too. |

Not been feeling 100% latley, health-wise. Not ED health or weight or anything, I've just been having the snifflies and a bit of a sore throat. Hello winter weather! Other than that, everything's been great though. Except last night when I realised I was out of bananas, which is pretty much the end of the world as I know it. Hahah. There weren't even any in the freezer. GASP. Breakfast: Oatmeal made with milk and cinnamon, ginger, raisins, a cooked honeycrisp apple, apple butter, raw cashews, and walnuts. I had a big egg white omlette on the side. Lunch: Asian chicken and rice salad with peanuts, green onions, bell peppers, tamari, sesame oil, and rice vinegar. On the side I had black beans, peas, green beans, and an orange bell pepper. Snack: Peanut Butter and Jelly Lara Bar (so glad to have found these FINALLY) and a cup of Greek yogurt. Dinner: TBD. Something warm and tasty! I'm all out of meats except canned tuna, Italian chicken sausage, or frozen mahi mahi, so I guess it will either be fish, pasta, or vegetarian then. I bought an Amy's meal at the store so maybe I'll just have that with a zillion add-ons. Hahah. I love Amy's. Snack: Yogurt and cottage cheese with flaxseed, and a small banana. Hurrah for grocery shopping! Oh, and Maya - I tried yours and Eliza's peanut goji oats the other day and they were an awesome recipe! I didn't have pumpkin butter so I used peanut butter instead, which I'm sure was equally good, and it added a nice salty contrast to all the sweet fruits. I'm glad I finally bought some goji berries. I have tried them in the past but I rarely EVER buy them because of the ultra high price factor. I managed to find them "on sale" for $15 a pound though so I nabbed em'...a few ounces anyway. :) |

All time:That's nearly impossible. I don't really have a favorite food or favorite meal. I do love homemade breaded chicken parmesan with pasta and fresh marinara sauce though. Dessert: My grandma's frosted angel food cake or her chocolate chip cake, no-bake peanut butter chocolate oat cookies, or ice cream with fresh peaches. Nowadays I also make my own "ice cream" with frozen bananas and peanut butter. It's really high-calorie, but it's so good. Fast Food Meal:I make food that's fast at home. Hahah. I hate fast food and really just any processed or chain restaurant food in general. Breakfast food: Blueberry pancakes with almond butter, bagels with peanut butter and raisins, toast, scrambled eggs, fruit parfaits with Greek yogurt, omelets stuffed with vegetables and cheese, french toast and real maple syrup, and of course, oatmeal. Drink: Water or coffee. Or cold apple cider in the fall. Candy: SUPER dark chocolate. It can be unsweetened too. Snack: Greek yogurt, Lara Bars, fresh berries, apples and peanut butter, cottage cheese mixed with yogurt. My snacks are meals almost. Chips: Kettle BAKED sea salt and vinegar chips. Healthy Food: Everything I eat. :) TV Dinner: Amy's Kitchen organic brand, and some Kashi ones. |

1. favorite flavor cookie? Hmm. Either oatmeal raisin or snickerdoodle. They have to be big, soft, and preferably homemade. 2. favorite type or cake? I own a cake bakery so this is almost impossible! Well, I'll admit that I used to love the "Cherry Chip" and "Confetti" cake mixes from a box, but now I'd rather have a good carrot cake (with cream cheese frosting) or a Chocolate Peanut Butter cake. 3.favorite type or candy? I really don't like candy. I guess I could say dark chocolate though. I like mine really dark. Like, 90% cocoa solids or more. 4.favorite flavor ice cream? Neopolitan, cookie dough, mint chocolate chip, and strawberry. I haven't had any in ages though. I'd like to try making it at home sometime. 5. favorite flavor muffin? Blueberry for sure. Banana nut and pumpkin take a close second. 6. favorite calorific drink? Milk, or fruit juices, but I rarely ever drink either by the glass. I don't usually drink things other than water. 7. favorite pie? Not really a fan. I like the filling of pumpkin pie, but that's about it. 8. favorite cheesecake flavor? White Chocolate Raspberry Truffle, from the Cheesecake Factory. Cheesecake is way too rich to eat more than a couple bites of though. Even as a kid I only had a few tastes. |

Well I wouldn't think so, but a lot of other websites say otherwise. The thing is, it was not warm when we picked it up, it was still fairly cool even after the time it sat out. I know it wasn't frozen when we left it, but I don't think it should be a huge deal since the package was unopened and all. I just get all these "what if's" about things like this and worry the heck out of myself. Ugh. |

I was planning on cooking it for dinner, but now I'm really afraid! I went ahead and trimmed and cut it and put it into a plastic sealed container in the fridge. I guess unless I hear otherwise, I'll just make sure that it's thoroughly cooked and take it from there. |

I bought sweetened graham crackers at Whole Foods yesterday and ate them. :) I even made a cherry almond crumble oatmeal with them as a topping. Mmm... I had bought a big peanut butter cookie too, but guess what? I left it sitting on the counter and went outside for a little bit, and when I came back and asked where it went, my brother just pointed to his stomach. Apparently we weren't meant to be. Hahah. At least I got some other goodies. |

I don't know if any of you guys heard me around the blogosphere say that my next big challenge was coconut, but today that fear was murdered violently at breakfast! MUUWAAHAAHAA! I had a big bowl of banana and flaxseed oats topped with almond butter and a quarter cup of shredded coconut. Not a teaspoon, not a tablespoon, no sir - a quarter cup. ED thought it was insane and pretty much passed out. I just laughed and enjoyed myself. So there. |

The only brand I've tried and liked (and trust me, I've tried tons of them) is Solgar's Whey To Go protein powder in the "vanilla bean" flavor. It's unsweetened so there's no funky aftertaste and the flavor is clean and well-balanced instead of being chemically and artifical like a lot of others. I got my container at Whole Foods, but I think it's cheaper to order off Amazon. |

I will fill this in later - promise! It's a school day for me today, so I packed my lunch all ready to go! I'm just going to microwave the burrito at lunch to heat it back up. Mmm... can't wait!
