This topis has really been an eye opener to me about my 45 minute runs, and light strength training. Really. My whole life, i've been told that women should do light weights with high repitition to be lean. So...wow.

Does anyone know a good strength routine, or know any moves that  i could do at home???

Im not signed up with a gym, but would really like to be a heavy weigt lifter now. thank you!

I have done the exact same thing. I dieted, i exercised, everything. then i got depressed. ate it all back and more. now im even more depressed.

maybe we should start a: "Lost weight-Then gained it back" group. ha.

but ya, it sucks, and i know what you are going through. i have been trying to lose weight over a year, and i get really motivated sometimes and then days like today happen, and i just eat eat eat

:(
Weight Loss i can't stop bingeing! Jul 19 2008
02:50 (UTC)
i cant either!!! you're lucky. you've only had 2 nights of bad eating. i'm pretty sure i haven't stopped eating all week long. ugh. im so fed up with myself. everyday i wake up thinking, "im going to be good today, im going to run and swim and eat 1,200 cals and only healthy foods".... then i dont run. get discouraged...dont swim...start eating something unplanned...and the cycle repeats.

so know that youre not alone.

on my good-non-bingeing days, i have some tips that might help you:

  • I listen to music all day. Rap, Classic Rock, whatever puts me in a good mood, or makes me feel sexy. i notice i dont binge when im in a good mood.
  • I drink crystal light water all day. Keeps me so full. Tastes really good.
  • When you want food late at night, tell yourself that you'll have an amazing breakfast if you dont eat at night. Think about a big plate of eggs, bacon, yogurt or cereal that you'll have the next morning, and you're not going to want to eat a big breakfast if you had a late night meal. Not only think about the big breakfast, but have the big breakfast. The next morning of course.
  • Keep reminders everywhere. My skinny jeans are out in the open on a desk in my room. A skinny picture of me is on hte fridge. A fat picture of me is on my dresser. Shape magazines are everywhere throughout my house with hot-bodied actresses staring at me as i walk to the kitchen.
  • Schedule a walk with a friend at a point when you are likely to binge before hand. For example, i usually de-rail my diet around 5-ish.  So me and my bud schedule walks at like 6 or 7. This way i will feel bad if i bail, and i dont like walking on a full stomach, so i dont binge :).... In your case, i would set up a walk-date in the mornings before work or school or whatever. You might be less likely to pig out at night.
so why do i still binge if i have all these good tips?

i have no idea.

I am sorry.

 I am an idiot.

And if any of you chose to block, delete, or whatever you do on this site to avoid contact from me ever again, i would completly understand...

So i quoted that....>>>>>>  " You'd have to be totally rippid-like, body builder ripped- to get a noticeable bump in your metabolism. Most people burn about 2 calorie per kilgram of body weight per minute, whereas a body builder burns about 1.2"

But i typed it wrong...

It actually says this...>>>>    "You'd have to be totally rippid-like, body builder ripped- to get a noticeable bump in your metabolism. Most people burn about 1 calorie per kilgram of body weight per minute, whereas a body builder burns about 1.2"

and yes, it says minute, not hour.

so im sorry. i am a dumb @$$. i typed 2, instead of 1, throwing the whole concept off balance. i am sorry. ha, bring on the name calling.

However- most of you had made very interesting points, like i do agree that magazines and internet articles should mostly be avoided and we should just stick with what we are doing.

I shouldve said who the resources were.

James O. Hill studied successful dieters for 13 years, director of the center for human nutrition at university of colorado health sciences center in denver.

he was the one who claimed "exercise wont make a difference"

pff.

Ralph La Forge studies the role of exercise in weight loss and is managing director of the ipid and disease management preceptorship program at duke university medical center.

he was the one who said "strength training is a myth"

those scientist's claims are the only myths i see.

i love the part about yo-yo dieting! that was so interesting to know that 5 of the 10lbs lost was muscle, 2 was water, and 3 was fat. and then the repeat...that really motivated me even more not to gain the weight back.

thank you!

i know what you mean. this is what i do to stop being hungry, and it seriously works. make a protien smoothie. i put whey powder, strawberries, milk, some water, and splenda in a blender and it makes a very generous serving. so its filling both quantity and quality wise. it really works, try it! its also good with ovalitne powder or bananas or yogurt.
Weight Loss Are You Happier After Weight Loss? Jul 07 2008

well after i lost 40 lbs, i definitly had a bangin bod, but to be completely truthful, i felt very empty inside. i felt that since i had this hot body, it didnt really match my funny fat girl personality, but more so a quiet mysterious seductive personality. sounds weird i know, but i felt insecure. i felt like i had to change my personality after i changed my bod. so i tried to be something i wasnt and it caught up with me...

so after i gained weight, i really let my bubbly witty personality shine because it was all i had. i no longer had my hot bod to rely on. it was my persona that attracted people now....so in a way im glad i gained weight because as opposite as it sounds, it helped me gain perspective of myself and not to change, and to embrace being loud and obnoxious!

but dont get me wrong, now i plan on losing weight while maintaining my out-there persona.

this was a cool post topic!

Weight Loss scared, ate a WHOLE BLOCK of cheese today, need help? Jun 25 2008
00:03 (UTC)

you ate 1,200 calories worth of cheeze. it takes 3500 calories worth of cheeze to gain a pound. and since you only eat 1300 calories a day any, it certainly wont make a difference. in fact it may actually help your metab raising your calories one day, then getting back on track. so dont worry, its just one day, it will be fine.

Weight Loss has anyone ever tried NOT counting calories? Feb 15 2008
06:04 (UTC)
6
Yes, there is a way to eat what you want, not count calories, and maintain your weight. Im a different story, because im so messed up right now, but i see my friends do it everyday. Its called: LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. Eat when youre hungry. Stop when youre full. If you are really unsure about a certain meal you know is high calorie, eat half of it. So even if the meal was 1000 cals, you only ate 500. And if youre still hungry after only eating half your cheesburger, eat a big apple and drink a liter of flavored water. No doubt you will be full then. Another thing is stay active.

Bottom line: Listen to your body, respect your body. And respecting yourself doesnt mean eating what you crave all the time.

Weight Loss How do I stop? Oct 31 2007
05:16 (UTC)
when i reached my goal weight last year, maintenance was easy. First of all, FORGET CALORIES at least for one day. Just completely listen to your body. If you want a chocolate biscotti in the morning, get one! Your body is now a high burning machine. Then next time youre hungry, and you really want a burrito or pizza or whatever- get one! but dont just eat it cuz you can, eat it slowly, and listen to your body when your satisfied. Then at dinner try to balance it out with a healthy meal like soup or salad. Even some dark chocolate.

At least it  worked for me. I would have like 1 cheat meal, then 2 healthy meals, or 2 cheat meals, and 1 healthy meal depending on how much 'cheat' i ate.

Keep calories in mind tho, but dont obsess. Just be aware of your body and what it needs.
Weight Loss More then 2 pounds a week! Oct 31 2007

If someone is obese or overweight, and they stick hard core to a diet for a week, the amount they lose at fisrt is still normal if its over 2 lbs. Jenny Mcarthy was on weight watchers and dropped 5 the first week. Usually after a while the weight comes off steady at like 2 lbs a week. Then it will plateua.

hope i helped!
