Hi, sorry to be late in joining, but only want to lose 40 pounds, so, I'm on the same track. I'm a 55 year old, 5'3" female, weighing today 157. I'm very discouraged because I just won't try consistently. I don't understand what's wrong with me, but it's not JUST weight that is getting short shrift from me. I'm struggling with diligence in lots of areas. I did get a whopping case of chicken pox in January, and that put a damper on my efforts. Was just looking for a group to help me remember that I'm on a diet! Please don't see "dummie" and think it's a reflection of low self-esteem. My last name is Dumm. |

Week 0. 12/30-1/1:156 I will be away from home Monday-Friday next week. May I weigh in on Sunday? Gene also will be away on business, and his M-F travel may last two weeks or more. He also could weigh on Sundays if he wants to. (Don't know if he does.) Please advise. Thanks. |

Hi. I'm another stalker-from the land of oranges. I saw Leigh-Ann's post and was floored. Small world. I worked at a newspaper for 28 years and am now working on a master's thesis in music theory. I also am a pianist. Good luck with your journey toward weight loss and health. Charlyn |

How does one lose so much water weight ? I know don't eat salt, but really, what are you doing to lose 6, 7, 8 pounds ? Gene literally lost 8 pounds overnight the day after he weighed in. As trainer Bob Harper would say, "I smell game." No, he would never do that on purpose. Gene's watching football and just showed me an item on a tailgating special. someone from our town cracked eggs in a plastic baggie, added whatever they wanted from the nice selection of veggies and ham, and boiled it in a pan of water. It became an omelet. Interesting camping/tailgating option. My mother, who is 83 and lives 1000 miles from here, is staying with us, and that has slowed our time at the Y and our time downstairs exercising. It's hard for her to join us here because she has to get back upstairs. She's using muscles here she had forgotten and is in real pain and on pain meds. Gene bought a wii fit this weekend, but we have to use it away from the part of the house my mother is in. Being with her is real motivation to stay healthy though. The wii fit is really cute. Blessings! |

Bodies are so weird. I'm still 2 pounds above my original weigh in, and I've been really good. The day of my week 0 weigh in, I must have been dehydrated. LOL, I KNEW I should have cheated! Just joking. good luck this week... Happy birthday to bonbon--hope your next 35 are healthy and fun! |

Good afternoon. Papa, of the green team, has taken up my personal Green-orange challenge. we're on! My husband bought a new exercise bike--with fans and all kinds of neat stuff--for $200 at Walmart. I guess vendors are getting antsy for customers, although I hear Walmart's making money. He set it up in front of our big screen TV, although we have an older one in front of another tv in our exercise room. I'm going to have to name them green bike and orange bike. When I put this final period on, I'm going to try out the new one and not watch football while I ride. |

Hi, I'm 55. I've been married to Gene (gdumm of the green team) for five years, during which I've gained about 20 lbs. for various reasons. My new goal in life is to beat the green team, making dummie a loser, lol. Unfortunately, my entry weight seems to be a bit low. I weighed two pounds more this morning. Gene, on the other hand, seems to have lost a gallon of water overnight. Sigh. My story, and I'm sticking to it, is that my one day at the gym netted me two pounds of muscle. Go orange!

First, sorry I didn't write in on Monday; I didn't see the post. I can't figure out what's wrong. I'm doing cardio at home like a crazy person and eating smarter. Since I had the seizure on 12-26, I can't drive, so I go for the weight work when my husband does, and sometimes that's only once a week (he needs major motivation!). Last night I looked up the new medication I'm taking and some people have posted that they have weight gain with it. Not listed as a normal side effect, so just some have noticed it enough to write something. So thank God I've stepped it up some, because otherwise I'd have been gaining like crazy. This is a blessing, and I'm grateful. I've just lost 2 or 3 pounds since we started this, but there's about a five point fluctuation. Perhaps I'll get up some morning and my body will have given it up in the night and I'll see big numbers. Congrats to all you high achievers! Charlyn |

thanks to all for good wishes. am heavy today--151.5. oh well. You know, this not-driving thing has some advantages. Hubby, feeling sorry for me, will drop me off daily at the Y as he goes to his own club, and I'm stuck there until he picks me up. Also, meals have to be planned way in advance since I can't drive to the store on a whim. Also some disadvantages. LOL, hubby, feeling sorry for me came home from New Yr's Day Kroger visit w/ a large cake and a large box of twinkies, and he's diabetic. He sees this as a kindness, so no wonder he's so overweight. Anyway, since I can't go do this 'n that, I may as well put a book tape on and listen as I use our forgotten treadmill. This really could turn out well; I can see getting several hours of low-intensity exercise daily. The main downside is the sleep-inducing anti-seizure medication I have to take. (bring on the caffeine AND the cold water!) Perhaps the neurologist will lower the dosage next week. Tomorrow I'll try exercising on an empty stomach. I thought eating breakfast was the thing that revved our systems for the day. Hey, I'm wrong about LOTS of stuff. I blame my last name! Joyous, healthy new year to all! Mrs. Dumm |

| They were really picky about exercise after the two craniotomies, and I lost a lot of muscle both times. This though is just annoying. And unexpected. I'm blessed in that we were sitting at our computers in a carpeted room when it happened. At least I didn't hurt anyone. And now my mother's coming. Not sure how that will play out with weight loss. Just doing the best I can w/ the cards I'm dealt. Go team 1! | |||

I have some bad news. I had a seizure on Wednesday evening. I had brain surgery both in 2005 and in 2006, and this is probably a result of cranial scarring. I can't drive for 3 months, so I'll have no gym or exercise facility at all now; I am stuck at home, and my husband travels. I do have lots of DVDs with various exercises on them, so I can use those and hopefully do my part losing weight for team one. Peace and perfect health to all in 2008, Charlyn Dumm |

Alicia, what's the biggest loser part of this? Do we get voted off? Are there challenges? Is there a prize? LOL, I could use a prize. Also, I read a couple of places that cold water will actually increase one's metabolism. I surely do need that. |
