| Weight Loss | Am I the only person NOT agonising over what they ate/got/didn't eat for Christmas? | Jan 03 2008 21:09 (UTC) |

I ate and ate and ate over the Christmas/New Year period. No restrictions on food or booze. I gained a tonne of weight, but got back on the wagon on New Years Day and have lost 3.1kg in the last 3 days. Don't know if this is a common thing or not to pile it on and then lose it back just as rapidly? Anyway, I don't really care. I had a good Christmas/New Year, not punishing/restricting myself and now I'm back on the wagon again. Wishing you all the best in 2008. :) |

Christmas really got to me. I let myself go but, am back on track now. Wow. I'm amazed at how quickly I gained back the weight within only a week of bad eating. |

| The Lounge | Does anyone know anything about Melaleuca - good or bad??? | Nov 29 2007 18:19 (UTC) |
|
| I live in NZ. Melaleuca - commonly called Tea tree oil. Is this what you mean? Are you planing to sell products containing this?
It has anti-fungal/antibacterial properties. I used it to sanatise cloth nappies when my kids were babies. I've used it in laundry (alongside the powder) to kill germs. I have put it in the final rinse (hairwashing) as a head lice deterent for the kids. I have used it on minor wounds. I have had success with it in all of these areas. I know it has other uses. It is defintely a good product to sell. It is natural and I can say that it certainly does what it claims. |

Hey cool. Thanks for the tips! |

| Fitness | Swimming - Does it build muscle? | Nov 25 2007 02:25 (UTC) |

| Seems there are mixed ideas on whether it builds muscle or not. I guess I don't really want to look overly muscley anyway, but I do want to lose weight and firm up. In particular my abdomen and arms. I can very definitely feel pull on both of these areas during my workouts in the pool. I also walk every day (at least an hour. Some days 2-3 hours) and I cycle occassionally (not as much as much as I could be doing) Going to a gym just doesn't appeal to me, besides weight lifting is a no-no for me with an unrepaired TFCC tear in my wrist. I guess the main thing is: It gets me active, I enjoy doing it and I always feel great afterwards. |

| Health & Support | What are the reasons of binging? | Nov 23 2007 03:55 (UTC) |
3 |
I don't believe that there is any one particular reason that stands out as the sole cause of bingeing. It could be about mis-read body signals (starving then needing to respond to the signals to eat and over doing it), it could be a person eats when they are bored, or to shove down other stray & usually uncomfortable feelings. There can be subconscious reasons for a person to retain excess weight. I'm in psychotherapy and in my case fat = protection = I am unattractive to males = I feel safe - I was sexually abused as a child and am afraid to lose weight, to be small again = to feel vulnerable again (i'm only 5'2"), even though I know in my rational adult mind that I need to and want to be fitter and healthier. I frequently find myself sabotaging the diet because of the underlying psychological fears. I agree most eating disordered or bingeing type behaviour is best looked at with professional help/counselling. |

Original Post by japoll17: Oh boy, I hope not. Not after 7 years! I'm not under any stress that I'm consciously aware of. Wouldn't stress make it disappear? Rather than occur more frequently? And pregnancy too - would make it go away? dmarsha - Yeah, Please do go get things checked out. Does caffeine affect things? I cut my caffeine back to only 2 cups per day when I quit smoking back in August, but recently have upped the intake again (seems to fill me up and take away the craving to eat.) I wasn't aware that it could affect my hormones. Tulsa - I'm hoping that it is just the extra physical strain. I might have to make that appointment earlier than planned to put my mind at ease. |

Hey Thanks. I'm not gonna make a special trip to the Dr. Will write it down and keep track and let him know about it at my next scheduled monthly appointment. It's not life-threatening or making me feel really sick, just damn annoying. I have previously been diagnosed with DUB (Dysfunctional Uterine Bleeding), but although I haven't had an episode for a long time, its possible it could be that playing up again. I guess messing around with ones diet/exercise, could mess around with ones hormones and stuff.

| So aiming for the 500-1000 deficit is a good rule of thumb. Thanks for the responses. On the sedentary days, do I keep to the 1384 that CC recommends or could I go as low as 1200? | |||

| When I started dieting a few months ago, I went totally off meat. My Dr was concerned that I would lack B12, alongside protein and iron. I told him what foods I was eating to replace the iron and protein, but needed to supplement the B12. I take a Executive B-complex every day and it gives me a boost (energy wise). I don't think it makes any difference to my weight loss though. | |||

| I relate to this. I go 3-4 days in a row where I struggle to eat my 1200 per day, so end up drinking fruit juice to make up the calories. The days that I workout loads and have huge deficits, I also find it hard to fill myself up with food. Seems unnatural to me, but then I find that have the odd day where I eat 1800-2000. I just feel really hungry so allow myself to eat. I keep track of my deficits each day and aim for 7000 deficit over the entire week. COuld be one day I have 1500 deficit and then another only 500, but it balances out over the week. | |||

Thanks all. Yeah, I guess we all carry our weight differently so the same weight on me may look completely diff on somebody else. I have a sway back (I hate it, even though I'm told it's cute) and I have a very curvy bottom as a result. I used to always see it as "fat" but, it's not really - it's just my shape. No matter how slim I was, my bottom was still sticky out. Anyway, thanks to those of you who posted pics and I guess time will tell, as I get slimmer. |

| 5-HTP is a precursor to Serotonin - I think its actually an amino acid related to L-trytophan which is also a precursor to Serotonin. I take it to assist sleep, alleviate PMS & to increase Serotonin levels in a natural way. | |||
