I work nights at a hospital and it is definitely hard to keep up with everything so last week I cooked two healthy dinners and divided them up into individual containers and froze them, and every night so far I've just grabbed one on my way to work! It's so easy. And good. And to vary it up, tonight I picked up Subway. I work 7pm-7am, so Ive been getting up about 45 minutes earlier than I usually do and hit the track at the park and get some running in. So far, it's going good! Hope that helps.

Thanks Sealion! You sound just like me right now... in your first sentence. lol. It's awesome to know that one day if I keep it up I'll see results. I love that this is a hobby/sport as well as a consistent exercise to do, and gaining confidence is definitely a plus too since mine has gone down considerably since gaining this weight.  You've definitely inspired me! :)

Jenny, I think the beginners program is the one I'm doing from Runners World.. 8 weeks to running 30 mins. Sounds like the same one. Good to know that it can be done because I'm only on week 1 and it's pretty difficult, so i'm excited to know it does get easier like sadinplaid said!

And pgeorgian, I've noticed that even though I've only been doing this for a week, it definitely keeps me motivated not to cheat on my diet because I know how hard I worked to burn them!

I just completed week 1 (run 1 min/walk 2) and I felt like I was dying during some of those one minute stretches of running. It's good to know it does get easier! I'd love to eventually celebrate my accomplishments by running a 5k or even a half marathon!

Anyone else see results? :)

Motivation What have you overcome? Oct 15 2008

Original Post by meeshellmabell:

I have started jogging on the treadmill at the gym. I can see my self in the mirror, I am fully aware of how I look - I just thank God that I can not see behind me - what I have overcome is the overwhelming urge to quit because of what one of a dozen good looking guys behind me must be thinking as my rear and thighs go bezerk like my pants are actually filled with jello - yeah as if they are even looking - LOL - but I keep going because it WILL get better!

Haha. I did the exact same thing today! I was on the treadmill at the gym wearing  one of my tighter gym outfits, and there was a hot guy on the machine directly behind me. The thought crossed my mind to not run because I was worried about my butt and back rolls jiggling. lol. But then I said to myself, "Am I really gonna not work out to my fullest potential because I'm worried about what this random guy thinks about my butt??" So I ran like crazy and I felt GREAT afterward because that was the best I'd ever done! So I actually overcame the fact that I almost let what someone else thought about me dictate my life. Yay for that!

Weight Loss PCOS Buddies? Sep 17 2008

I also have been diagnosed with PCOS. I was diagnosed when I was 19 or 20 and I'm 23 now. My highest weight was actually recorded at my first endocrinologist visit and was 205.5 pounds. (I'm 5'5"). I was started on glucophage and actually lost about about 20 pounds without diet or exercise just from being on it. It also regulated my periods. The only time I ever experienced any side effects from the glucophage was right when i started or when i increased my dose. Other than that, I have absolutely no side effects! I've lost about 15 additional pounds by dieting and exercising, and I fell off the wagon, but have recently began counting calories and incorperating a low glycemic diet and exercise and weight training. I hope to get down to about 130, but I know it will take a while. Low glycemic eating and weight training both help with the insulin resistance, so hopefully that will help me see results a little more. Nice to hear from more people with PCOS!

Weight Loss Any young nurses out there trying to get back in shape after nursing school? Jul 24 2008
23:47 (UTC)

Hey there! I'm Shanna and i'm also a new nurse. I'm 23 and i've been out of school for about a year now. I definitely gained alot of weight during school, and right after i graduated also since i had alot more money to blow on fattening foods. :) So i've been trying to be good.. and hopefully we can all do this to be better examples for all the patients we will take care of in our careers!

I'm 5'5/CW 168, SW 185.5, GW 130

Good luck to all!

Fitness Polar F4, F6, or F11?? May 19 2008

Thanks everyone for all the responses! It definitely seems like the F11 is the best option, just based on the responses here. The money really isn't an issue, I just didn't know what the main differences were between the three because, like pgeorgian said, there are SOO many to choose from and the similarities between the three are too close to differentiate between!

And BTW... if anyone's interested... there is a 10% off coupon in the current  (June 08) Shape magazine for any purchase on Overstock.. The coupon code is 123903 and it says just enter that number at checkout... They sell Polars on Overstock! :)

Weight Loss 5'5" females, what is your final weight goal? Apr 17 2008

Hey there. I'm 5'5 and currently weigh about 165 (down from 185!). My final goal is somewhere between 125-130 pounds. I can't ever remember being that weight, so when I get there, I can decide if I want to maintain or keep going. But for now, that's my goal!

The Lounge indoor tanning debacle, any advice? Apr 16 2008

This may sound really weird, but mustard works wonders! It kinda works on the vinegar principle, but it's creamy, so it stays on. Just put a thick layer on and keep it there until it dries. Then, take a lukewarm shower. You may have to do it twice, but it takes ALL the heat out of it! (And wear something that you don't mind getting stained, because it doesn't come out of clothes!)

Trust me, this is coming from a pale-face who has been blister-burned MANY times in my pasty white days! :)

Weight Loss Falling off the wagon. Apr 04 2008
05:18 (UTC)

I am actually working on getting back on track right now. I was doing GREAT until I moved into an apartment with my best friend. We were both bridesmaids in our friend's wedding that was last weekend, so the past few week have been bachelorette parties, rehearsals, rehearsal dinners, wedding, reception, showers... Food food food!!! (And lots of alcohol...) And Easter too! I have worked so hard to lose the 17.5 pounds I've lost, and I feel so much better just having lost that little bit, I don't want to lose track!! I am getting back on the wagon tomorrow. I already have counted everything I'm eating and put it in a lunchbox. That way, if I get hungry, everything I can choose from is in the box, and I'll stay in my cals. That's what I had to do to get on track the first time, and I can do it again.

I totally get what you said about your taste buds changing. Now all I crave when i want a snack is candy and chocolate and I crave fast food again. We can do it. Don't let all your hard work go down the drain. Surf the boards for inspiration (That's what I'm doing!), and just think of the end result!

Oh, and maybe you could do something for yourself to boost your self esteem a little. Like, today I signed up for 3 months of tanning, which gives me a little boost, and in turn, makes me want to be healthy. Just an idea...

Weight Loss Cabbage Soup Diet ? Mar 03 2008

I tried it. I didn't last longer than day 4 because I was ravenously hungry. I got so sick of the soup that I would rather have not eaten anything than more of that darn soup. Yes, I lost weight, but I gained it all back just eating regularly. Don't waste your time!
Weight Loss any 3rd shifters out there? Feb 27 2008

My schedule really sucks... I work days and nights all in one week. I work Sun. and Wed. nights, and Fridays (day). I've found the schedule works best for me if I stretch a day's worth of calories out until I get off. Like if I work 7pm-7am, I usually wake up late (around 11), and nap at some point before work. So, since I'm not awake all day, I just eat a late breakfast (around 1), and eat my "lunch" when I wake up from my nap around 5. So I have the rest of the night to finish all my calories. I eat dinner around 10, and just eat snacks the rest of the night, or bring some soup for around 3 when I get hungry. This way, when I get off, after my nap, I have a whole new day's worth of calories to use, because I tend to stay up pretty late after I've napped most of the day. :)

Weight Loss PCOS meds (besides Glucophage)? Feb 27 2008
02:02 (UTC)

If you're on Metformin or Glucophage ER(extended release), DO NOT break the tablet in half. Those are formulated to release at a certain rate, and you shouldn't break them. Just an FYI...

Glucophage's side effects definitely do subside with time. Did your MD prescribe you phenergan? Mine did. Maybe you should ask for something for the stomach issues.

Byetta is another med my mom is on. It's an injection, and some insurances don't cover it (Mine doesn't--Humana), but it really seems to help my mom.

I have nighttime cravings ALL the time! Something I've done that really helps is to get a cup of low fat/sugar free hot chocolate and add a teaspoon of Fiber Sure to it. It adds 5 grams of fiber. It's a hot drink, so you drink it very slowly, and the fiber fills you up. You can add a little whipped cream on top for sweetness!

Also, fruit is definitely filling.

You just need to focus your eating on foods with more fiber or protein that will fill you up, and not empty carbs that just leave you hungry and craving more! :) It's helped me so much! Good luck!

Weight Loss 1lb a week Feb 26 2008

I look at it both ways. I had about 60 pounds to lose when I started 2 months ago on Jan 1st. I bought a calendar specifically for my diet. I broke it down into a pound a week, and I put a goal at the beginning of each month based on a loss of a pound a week. I actually lost 11 pounds the first month (mostly water weight), so I reevaluated my goals and I have a monthly goal I try to make. My overall goal is to lose it by the end of the year, but I try to look at my monthly goals to make it a little easier!

I'm watching. That is so sad. One of my cousins went through a bout of anorexia (definitely not that bad), but it made me see how much of it is conflicting thoughts in their minds. You just wanna say "EAT!", but it's definitely not that easy.

BTW... does that gynecologist sound like Paula Abdul, or is it just me? :)
